Thank you for talking about the beautiful girl with Tourette's and tics. I have some verbal tics. I've never been diagnosed with Tourette's, but they have been a source of embarrassment. I was actually comforted in hearing they aren't particularly uncommon. That was good news!
I actually have just one tic, it sounds like a hiccup, but expelling air instead of inhaling. Sometimes, it comes on so strong that it's hard to breath, but other than that, I've got nothing, and I've never been diagnosed.
There’s a big different between a person thinking they are the only one with a condition, and them being grateful to hear, for the first time, that the thing no one else in their life has, that has been a source of embarrassment for them, isn’t particularly uncommon. I suspect that’s why Dr. Youn stated that fact it in the first place.
I never realized how common it was either! All my doctors have known I have physical and mild vocal tics, but I'm just now getting an official diagnosis because I need to get one for insurance to cover botox for my tics (they've migrated to a very obvious and quite painful spot and just will not migrate elsewhere!!!). It would be nice if it were diagnosed more since there's a huge stigma in self diagnosis (things like bipolar disorder or a heart problem are hard to diagnose in yourself, but some things like a tic disorder or a grass allergy are pretty clear!). Maybe then people would discuss it more so it wouldn't feel so rare and bizarre.
Thank you for speaking about tics. I don't have Tourettes itself but my neurodivergence brings along some motor and verbal tics and I wish more people understood that it's just how my body is.
hi!! "tics" that arent caused by tourettes but by things like autism or ADHD etc are actually called stims! theyre different from tics in that everyone has stims, but they arent caused by being born that way, but just by built up stimulation in your body! its stuff like flapping your hands around, tapping your foot on the ground, making unusual sounds or noises, tapping on things, etc!
@@3starsburningbright I appreciate your enthusiasm but I'd advise you to avoid trying to teach strangers about how their own bodies work if you're not a doctor. I know the difference between tics and stimming. I'm not talking about rhythmic actions to release tension, which I do daily. I'm talking about my head snapping to the sides, my shoulders jumping upwards, my leg muscles tensing, sharp noises, and other involuntary actions that don't help me in any way and sometimes hurt. Professionals have suggested they're related to how my brain is wired but I do not have Tourettes specifically. Not everything is black and white.
That sound falls approximately at 14kHz. I actually am 17 and could hear it. Meanwhile, my mum who's 50 couldn't and we had to bring up the volume to actually make the sound audible to her. It's not black or white; my take is it has to do with genetics and how often you've been partying at 80dB+ concerts or parties. But I bet that being young at heart actually matters too!
My daughter freaks out at the sound and I'm 40 and can't hear it at all. Also, Asian don't raisin & black don't crack. I'm an oily Italian and it keeps my skin from aging as well!
I'm white but oily too. I used to hate it and felt cursed but now I'm in my 30's I'm so grateful for my greasy skin. I still get asked for ID when buying alcohol.

35, heard the sound. I think that it’s about the sound volume we’re used to: some people like listening to loud sounds/music/etc while others are mindful to keep the volumes down. Overtime, the loudest will sort of numb your ears to more subtle sounds, age does that too of course.
You're definitely on the right track. High frequency sound is the first to deteriorate when people have hearing loss. A lot of GenX and older Millennials have earlier hearing loss because of Walkman/Discman use in our teenage years, before they had settings for decibel controls. So yeah.. if you were mindful as a teen and kept the volume down, you protected your hearing. * *high five* * Me too! 43 and I totally heard that sound.

The new doctor listened to his breathing under a stethoscope and correctly diagnosed him within 5 minutes. They rushed him into the operation room and after another whole month and two surgeries, he survived. My brother has tics and I’m pretty sure he has Tourette’s. I brought this up to my mom once, who was a nurse, because I had been reading about Tourette’s Syndrome and it sounded exactly like my brother’s issue as he would do this thing where he would breath out hard after saying something and squeeze his eyes shut. It changed from what it was previously, where he’d make a ticking sound when he talked. She got really mad at me and told me he didn’t have Tourette’s and he had a breathing problem, which wasn’t true, because if your have Tourette’s your tics don’t change! She just didn’t want to have a kid with Tourette’s. I should also add that my mother has NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder). She didn’t want to get him help because it embarrassed her and she thought it would reflect badly on her if he had it. 🤷🏼♀️ Fast forward decades later and he still has tics, they just change over time, which is super common with Tourette’s. Sometimes they’re very obvious and other times they’re more subtle. Luckily, he never yells out things.

Brayden is fine now. He posted a follow up and he was misusing vapes for several years and using salt nicotine in a standard box mod which is a massive no no. Yes smoking anything isn’t good for you but still better than smoking cigarettes.
I think the wording is important when it comes to vaping. It should ALWAYS be mentioned as less unhealthy as oppose to a healthier option. It may sound small but to people trying it out there is a massive difference psychologically speaking.
This is entirely not true. Vaping is in fact a much healthier option when it comes to smoking vs vaping. 95% healthier in fact. Boy shouldn't have even had a vape at his age, its not meant as a fun new thing for teens, it's a way for smokers to find a better alternative. Yorkshire Lung Cancer Society has an amazing video on it if you care to look it up. American vaping information is full of just straight up wrong and harmful ideas. We've known vaping to be safer and better for you than smoking ,and a lot of these problems like spontaneous collapsing lungs are caused by contaminated thc carts, that are awful for you. I know a lot of people who have tics that have tics relating to snapping or blinking or simple head nods.
I turn 27 in a few months and I could hear the sound. I'd like to continue to be able to hear sounds in the high frequency spectrum as they add to the listening experience of (losslessly compressed) music aswell.

Don't try to twist my words. Also what I was saying, was that showing aging comes from many different things! Melanin is good for preventing sun damage among other things. Not even once I tried to say that melanin is the only thing that makes a difference in different races skin structurer. My point was that your race won't automatically prevent you showing aging. in north african and middle eastern cultures , we used water and we still do and then a dry soft and clean cloth was used to dry the area , which is actually a lot more hygienic than toilet paper , because with toilet paper , things are still there and the continuous friction cause some discomfort , water cleans well and gently and you can actually use toilet paper after to pat the area dry , of course you wash your hands beforesnd after the process

Are you serious? Lol to think you are the only person to think or do or have anything is kinda ridiculous.
Maybe then people would discuss it more so it wouldn't feel so rare and bizarre.

I hope you and your brother are doing well and are away from your mom. NPDs are a nightmare to live with. (No, no personal experience, just know about it. )

These kids won't admit it because they don't want to get in trouble, so they blame vaping as a scapegoat. Please don't perpetuate misinformation like Youn is.

So I have tics, don't know what from but I do, and i think it's really nice when people talk about less apparent tics. I have several that involve nodding or blinking and people often think that most of my tics are me stimming as I also have ADHD and several of my tics developed from vocal or motor stims such as whistling or snapping. I know a lot of people who have tics that have tics relating to snapping or blinking or simple head nods.

I just turned 33 and that Tik Tok with the sound made me almost grind my teeth. I feel better about myself. Thank you Dr. youn 😅😂
That peeling off skin after period is a joke to have some people freak out 😂
I have a tick that gives me a spinal jolt. The only way to calm it down is by taking deep breaths. If I don't, I will sort of look like I'm cringing from my back. If it's not then I probably should know something I don't know
Who just wants to see his family 🥺?
Holy shit, loved the portlandia reference and I love this man. What a great human being.
If the animal factor farming industry is so horrifying why aren’t you vegetarian or vegan?
THere are VARIOUS reasons people don't go vegan or vegetarian. Perhaps they live in a food desert, where good food is hard to come by. Or maybe they CAN'T AFFORD a vegan/vegetarian diet. And of course, MANY people have HEALTH ISSUES that prevent them from such a diet. If you can't have gluten or any kind of nut (the most common food allergy) you will probably die on a vegan diet as it has LOTS of gluten or substitutes like soy, that are the MOST COMMON allergies! Hell you might just be very picky or have sensory/taste issues with lots of foods. There's a multitude of reasons people don't go vegan or vegetarian. If you want to and are able to do so, by all means go ahead, more power to you. But at the end of the day, it's a CHOICE that not everyone can make.
There’s so many reasons! I’m personally not vegan or vegetarian as I’m an athlete. Athletes need a lot of protein from various sources to keep up and some of the best protein that builds muscle comes from meat, NOT VEGETABLES. The difference is I buy meat that is local, ethically raised, hormone-free and antibiotic-free (when possible) and whenever possible, kosher.
Cuz meat is awesome idgaf about those worthless creatures that have zero purpose
I think as you age you can’t hear higher frequencies as well. I learned about it a couple years ago in school but I’m not sure on all of the details so I don’t want to misinform anyone
The girl with Tourette’s was adorable😭
Very cringe
Yep, I can hear it and I just turned 31.
I also have a super heightened sense of smell, which gives me headaches a lot of the time, because the smells are to intense.
I broke my teef in two pieces, when I was trying to open a plastic bottle. It was no fun
I'm 39 i heard it but I have tinnitus and electrical or sharp noises make it peak and that sound make my ringing go absolutely nuts.
