- DAMPP-CHASERS & BLÜTHNER PIANOS:
DAMPP-CHASERS:
This piano came with a Dampp-Chaser Piano Life Saver installed. These need regularly attending to, adding water and cleaning or changing the pads periodically. From our experience they are rarely maintained properly after a few years so we advise monitoring the humidity and temperature and controlling it in other ways. Please see this page for suggestions:

BLUTHNER PIANOS:
Bluthner pianos made before the factory was destroyed in 1943 are very different from those made after that date. After WW1 Bluthner was in East Germany and it wasn't easy to maintain quality. Pianos made during that period varied a lot until Germany was reunited in 1990.
BLUTHNER PATENT ACTIONS:
We restore and sell two main types of pre-war Bluthner grands: Those made from about 1885 to 1925, which have their own distinctive "Patent" action and are no shorter than 5ft 9in, and those made from 1925 to 1939 which have a roller/lever action like nearly all other manufacturers. I bought a 1932 version of this model (in black) a few years ago from the 87-year-old son of the original owner. He had a wonderful story of the piano being purchased by his parents at the showroom in Leipzig, shipped through the Panama Canal, and several month later arriving at the Port of Los Angeles. It only needed some minor restoration as it wasn't played too much. I bought it as a retirement present to myself after nearly 2 years of searching in northern California. There are simply not too many Bluthners in the US overall, especially on the West Coast. I'll never part with it!
Bluthner and Bechstein are my two favorite pianos. Always a place in my heart for either.
Beautiful, inside and outside.
Easy on the eye
Beautiful instrument!!!!!
according to the serial numbers they built pianos until 1943? or at least 1942... I love my Blüthner baby from 1940
I’m not clear about the year of this piano.
I restored several of them and I never had to replace the wresplank, I don`t think this is new. Why are there blue felts under the pins?
Thank you for your comment. The wrest plank is definitely new. I checked with a colleague who worked in the Bluthner restoration department for 10 years. Also, all the Bluthner grand pianos made before 1943 that we've worked on have had the wrest planks painted black on the front end. Marcus
The blue felt was put on by the last restorers. Originally it wouldn't have had blue felt as you probably know, but some firms such as Broadwood always used felts under the strings at the pins.
