"My world crumbles while you are not there". I'll be honest, I've heard this song so much, and this is the first time it actually dawned on me that that's how the lyrics go in the chorus.
I probably heard this song for the first time about 13+ years ago and it wasn't until just today that I came to the same realization. Crazy how we can go our entire lives absentmindedly filling in the blanks like this.
One of the best songs in the world. I loved it when it first came out and still love it now. Macy Gray has such an awesome voice and is one talented lady!
WOW. I'm f***kin' blown away right now. I've never heard this woman before. Thank you Macy. I'm sorry, I am from a tiny pacific island... this is just too much. Macy, you have such a unique voice that's beyond explanation. whew!!
I don't think she was. If anything she was overrated. She was everywhere and just ...meh. She was okay but people started comparing her to Aretha and Etta. Nah! Plus its good she vanished. Seemed like fame diodn't suit her, she was off her nut at the Brits and no one from her label seemed to be doing anything about it. Maybe it was a blessing that saved her from being another discarded victim of the music business
This song reminds me of a girl I used to work with in a supermarket deli dept back in 1999. It was always on the radio we had out the back. We had some great fun as 17/18 year olds, a lot of laughs and memories, youth, not a care in the world, our first ever job and living life. All the full time staff always went home at 5pm and us ''young ones'' (most of us had been there since age 16 from highschool) used to start at 4pm til closing. I remember the day she left, the supermarket closed at 9pm and her and I had to clean down and do everything we needed to do and try and get out as soon as possible - usually 9.15pm. Just before we were about to turn the lights off and walk to go get changed and go home...this came on the radio, and I vividly remember her singing and miming to this song in front of me. Was almost as if she was saying goodbye through this song. Like, it was her way of saying it. I stood there and said ''So.....'' We hugged and she said ''Will see ya round one day, but just in case we don't..... remember me by that song''. I remember walking out through the aisles with her and I said ''Hey, do you want a ride home?'' as knew she didn't have a car, and she said ''No, it's cool'' By the time I got in my car and drove out of the parking lot, she had vanished. I've never ever seen her again. Over the years I've tried looking her up on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, nothing. Maybe one day.
that happened to me with my really good friend Leonora! like... one day she just disappears on me somewhere around... back in 05/06 n haven't heard from her ever since. even went to the bakery she owned once, they said all they know is she moved to Houston Texas. n the two times I went to Houston I'd even be driving around with eyes wide open to see if maybe I can spot her somewhere out there with no luck. but hey! who knows... this is a small world really! maybe one day we'll bump into our friends again. ps: i know it has nothing to do with this song, just thought ur story was cute!
Thank you so much for sharing your story. You made me cry and will add to my memory of this song 🤗 Life would be meaningless without such songs and stories - I sincerely hope you'll find her one day
@@pwelti Thank you. I hope so too one day. I sometimes think she knew we never would see each other again, but couldn't actually say ''goodbye''. Almost like it was planned or she had thought about it. It's still very vivid to me now, almost 22 years later (will be in October). I hope she has had a happy life.
When I heard this song on the radio I was struggling with substance abuse and the lyrics were really hitting me when I would be craving getting high and i just couldn’t break the cycle. I hear it now as a love song and I think even though someone relationships end, I think it’s so much better to controlled by love for another person than to be addicted to a chemical high.
Ya know, it’s been probably 20 years since I’ve heard this song (or even thought about it). For some reason today, totally out of the blue, I started singing the chorus as I unloaded the dishwasher. An hour later I’m sitting in my living room watching this and crying like a baby and I have NO CLUE WHY
My first CD was this album and I'll forever be grateful for the lessons it taught me and the hard times it helped me survive. Thank you for existing Madam Macy Gray. ❤
Its 2019 and I'm at work. Macy gray walks in and tries to conceal her identity when asked for ID for a pack of smokes. she calls a friend over and immediately when she spoke it was a dead give away. I then sing a line from this song and she burst out laughing. Beautiful woman. My night has been made 5/5/2019❤.
My mom played this song again for me yesterday (im 32). We used to listen to this album when she'd drive me around when I was a kid. Over 20 years later I've taken to a career in live music performance, and looking back at this album all those years later...My god, the writing, production, instrumental arrangement, the feel, all immaculate. What an incredible artist, and what a record this was. This is the peak of pop R&B and soul working in unison, timeless stuff. The Anderson Paaks of today owe it to artists like Macy Gray.
Damn, I love me some Macy Gray ❤❤ That raspiness in her voice resonates within my soul and spirit 💜 🔥 🔥 I love love love this Song. Pure Masterpiece ❤❤❤❤ They Just don't make music 🎶 like they used to. There's no feeling in today's music. Everything is so commercial.
+Breaking Julia The voice reeled me in also. The song is great too! I heard this on the radio and thought, Who is that? Never heard who, for a long time. Finally heard the name behind this great song. Macy Gray. I'm white, She's black. Our blood is the same color. Red. Goes for all races. We all bleed red. Many read the bible. And yet do not get it. Life is in the blood it states. I know you just were talking about this great song. Sorry. Can't help it sometimes. Racism makes me sick. It's stupid. We all come from one source. I just want all to realize that and love one another. But hard times are ahead for all of us before that happens. People just don't want to hear it. Thank you. I'll go away now.
"I Try" - lyrics Games, changes, and fears When will they go from here? When will they stop? I believe that fate has brought us here And we should be together, babe But we're not I play it off, but I'm dreaming of you I'll keep my cool, but I'm fiendin I try to say goodbye and I choke I try to walk away and I stumble Though I try to hide it, it's clear My world crumbles when you are not near Goodbye and I choke I try to walk away and I stumble Though I try to hide it, it's clear My world crumbles when you are not near I may appear to be free But I'm just a prisoner of your love I may seem alright and smile when you leave But my smiles are just a front, just a front I play it off, but I'm dreaming of you I'll keep my cool, but I'm fiendin I try to say goodbye and I choke I try to walk away and I stumble Though I try to hide it, it's clear My world crumbles when you are not near Goodbye and I choke I try to walk away and I stumble Though I try to hide it, it's clear My world crumbles when you are not near Here is my confession May I be your possession Boy, I need your touch Your love kisses, and such With all my might I try But this I can't deny, deny I play it off, but I'm dreaming of you I'll keep my cool, but I'm fiendin I try to say goodbye and I choke I try to walk away and I stumble Though I try to hide it, it's clear My world crumbles when you are not near Goodbye and I choke I try to walk away and I stumble Though I try to hide it, it's clear My world crumbles when you are not near Goodbye and I choke I try to walk away and I stumble Though I try to hide it, it's clear My world crumbles when you are not near
Okay, looking at these great lyrics from this great song, I just have a question...what the heck does "fiendin" mean ? ? If someone can please explain. It must be a word to cool for me to be familiar with ! But I really want to know !
i remember being maybe 6/7 years old and i was at the grocery store with my mom and this song was on. i danced up and down the aisles making up the choreography to match the lyrics 😂🥺 i loved this song so much, and still do. thank you macy 🙏🏼 ❤ core memory
Man memories. I was addicted to this song for many many years. I always thought it would have been epic if Macy Gray and Cee Lo Green would have did a duet.
BadAssSykO I used to play this on repeat in my car and my grandson would whinge and moan all the way to school about it...lol he loathes this song but I still love it...and yep the dude in it is a babe..
"it could be a love song, but it's really a heartbreaker with a very personal story behind it. Macy Gray was signed to Atlantic Records in the mid-'90s as part of a rock band, but the album they made never got released. With her music career kaput, Gray became a secretary and married her boyfriend, a mortgage broker named Tracy Hinds. They had three children together but split up just as Gray got a solo deal with Epic Records. Many of the songs Gray wrote for her first album were about Hinds, including "I Try," where she explains that she wants to be strong and leave his memory behind, but can't bring herself to do so"
Real emotions too complicated to fake. It shows. Bittersweet no doubt. Leaving behind everything you've loved for everything you've ever wanted. This isn't my kinda music, but it's one of my favourite songs. Realness transcends taste.
My god, that voice. And on top of that, it sends you right back to the 90's. I miss watching this on the TV, in the night. Now I have youtube, and my temples are gray...
I have always heard this song growing up but have never truly understood it until my very first girlfriend left. It makes me remember that sort of love that seemed as if it would outlast time. Everyday with her was like a daydream. I am truly greatful to have had these experiences with her.

I am also 57, in April of this year. Happy birthday Macy. Great voice!
I was in a cab earlier with a friend and this came on BBC radio 2. Couldn't help but sing along. The elderly cab driver was singing along too. Great moment.
"My world crumbles while you are not there". I'll be honest, I've heard this song so much, and this is the first time it actually dawned on me that that's how the lyrics go in the chorus.
It’s one of the famous misheard lyrics, the same line is, “I wore goggles when you’re not there”🥹😯, give it a listen again.
“I blow bubbles when you are not there” what the fuck?

I probably heard this song for the first time about 13+ years ago and it wasn't until just today that I came to the same realization. Crazy how we can go our entire lives absentmindedly filling in the blanks like this.
0:12 “When will they go for me, when will they stop. “. My cry as a teen. Great lyrics.

One of the most underrated artists, ever.
Ever. The azealia Banks of her time.
True that.
Say it with ya chest 🗣
I don't think she was. If anything she was overrated. She was everywhere and just ...meh. She was okay but people started comparing her to Aretha and Etta. Nah!
Plus its good she vanished. Seemed like fame diodn't suit her, she was off her nut at the Brits and no one from her label seemed to be doing anything about it. Maybe it was a blessing that saved her from being another discarded victim of the music business
She won a Grammy against Christina Aguilera. How could she be underrated ?
I've been a Macy Gray fan since the beginning, can't believe it's been 25 years 😳 this song still hits in 2023 ♥️
Y aun suena .02/2024

Lol
Maybe because you remember 20 years ago like it was yesterday and it makes you feel like time is flying by and you all have left are distant memories

"I Try" - lyrics
Games, changes, and fears
When will they go from here?
When will they stop?
I believe that fate has brought us here
And we should be together, babe
But we're not
I play it off, but I'm dreaming of you
I'll keep my cool, but I'm fiendin
I try to say goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near
Goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near
I may appear to be free
But I'm just a prisoner of your love
I may seem alright and smile when you leave
But my smiles are just a front, just a front
I play it off, but I'm dreaming of you
I'll keep my cool, but I'm fiendin
I try to say goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near
Goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near
Here is my confession
May I be your possession
Boy, I need your touch
Your love kisses, and such
With all my might I try
But this I can't deny, deny
I play it off, but I'm dreaming of you
I'll keep my cool, but I'm fiendin
I try to say goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near
Goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear

Goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear

Music is the key to the soul my friend. I've been by myself for 5 years and music always pulls me through everything even if it takes some time.
