- This time we asked to photograph Onitaro, a long-established yatai located on Watanabe-dori.
It is one of the most popular stalls where you can enjoy cheap and easy street food, and although the proprietors are strong-looking, they are extremely friendly and one of the stalls we recommend.
Some of the customers have been coming here for 25 years, and both regulars and tourists alike enjoyed the food, drink, and atmosphere at the stall.
The food is all reasonably priced, and there is a wide variety of food available, ranging from hormone-based dishes to grilled dishes and ramen noodles.
The ramen soup that is made from home is also popular, and many people ordered it that day.
It seems that yatai stalls in Fukuoka have recently become popular among young people from outside of the prefecture, and perhaps it was just a coincidence that most of the customers were young women on that day.

Seeing a Yatai operated by more than one person is heart warming. Given how brutal that type of work is on the body.

Sure reminds me of Mexico City with their busy and bustling people especially in the market. The food vendors by their stalls serving every food you can think of. That was years ago as a child. Good times.

博多はじめ来た時中洲行ったんですがうーん、アウェー感ありで正直、、、。
で中洲のクラブに飲みに行った時にお姉さんに天神の方が色々あってしかも安いよって言われて天神の屋台行きはじめましたね。
毎年7月のホークス鷹の祭典の時行くんでその時に。
ここ数年はC国の人多すぎて避けてますが。
行ってた時は関西人で一人ででしたが地元の人とか屋台の人と楽しく話しながら飲み食い、おまけに飲み物地元の人に何杯か奢ってもらったのもいい思い出です

each time they use it, they have to set it up and once they’re done for the evening, take the whole thing down again in order to transport the Yatai home. they’re not allowed to just leave it there. i think these owners go by their own schedule on when they want to put up their stand. some everyday, some not, some have other jobs during the day, etc.

maybe a little more meat in the soup, love my meat. Wished I could experience that one day but doubt it getting to old. love the atmosphere at one of these places. Men are so polite. They work so hard.
I saw many stalls in Fukuoka, when I visited my brothers family in Sasebo. I didn't get a chance to take part though. They were all packed.

Having been to many parts of Japan repeatedly, I don't get why they like such a giant foam head on their beer! Love the video though!
Japanese culture places high value on freshness and aroma. Since stale flat beer has little foam, the perception is that beer with more foam is "fresher".

That's right. The ordinance has detailed rules on the hours and places where food stalls can be set up. They are so strict that watchmen patrol the area.

I was eating at a trendy Chinese restaurant once in Kyoto, and there were a pair of young Japanese girls close by. They took 30 mins taking pictures of themselves and the food, then they sat in silence on their phones for the rest of the night. IG is very popular in Japan 😂

I can see why so many females love this, I'm sure I would too. It gives off such cosy, homely vibes with a touch of nostalgia. It looks so very warm and nice! And lots of chattering with everybody, or simply submerged in our own meal while the people around are enjoying themselves and being noisy, that comforting chatter.
Not to mention the street food is best served on streets!!

I never ate at a Ramen or Udon bar when I lived in Japan because every time I would walk or ride my bike past one of these places, they had this strange smell/odor to them. It smelled like old gym socks, maybe it was the eggs or some vegetable they used in the soups but it was that smell that always made me skip trying these food stalls out.
That is the soul of the soup smell!!! ❤
