- Altra is pleased to present the 2017 recap of the legendary Western States ® 100-Mile Endurance Run, the world’s oldest 100-mile trail race. Starting in Squaw Valley, California near the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics and ending 100.2 miles later in Auburn, California, Western States, in the decades since its inception in 1974, has come to represent one of the ultimate endurance tests in the world. It is home to some of the sport's most legendary competitions, coveted finisher's prizes, and grueling trail terrain boasting over 18,000ft of gain, 23,000ft of loss, epic river crossings, and some gnarly changes in temperature.

We weren't started in some corporate office, but in the back room of a Wasatch Mountain running store. Our founders, -elite athletes and running store managers, -wanted a shoe that let you run the way you were born to. They noticed that the design of most running shoes was hurting runners more than helping them. Elevated heels promote high-impact landing and narrow toe boxes squeeze the toes out of their natural position.
I know it sounds silly to some but seeing people run makes me happy and motivates me.

Trail Running Wales, I love watching the western states, my dad ran in it when I was 17 and I always wanted to run in it. But I can't finish any 50 milers so hopefully in 5 years I can go.
