Let me tell you the actual reason why Jhijhiya is performed and it's background. In Mithila,we have the system of gram devta . Every village has a temple called Dihibar dhan in west direction dedicated to gram devta Barham Baba . In ancient time during Dashain Jhijhiya was performed to call Barham baba to protect from evils and negative energies and why only in Dashain because in Mithila it is believed that negative energies peaks during Dashain.
