So, so lucky you caught those loose and missing bolts from your canopy before everywhere went haywire. It would have been one heckava blooper reel if it had fallen off. Loved these episodes. At era when everything was about enjoying the journey, admiring the scenery and looking to chill at the destination. These days, most you see is who can tackle the steepest rock climb, or drive the boggiest mud tracks with rigs that are kitted out to the wazoo.
Great vid Roothy, love how the focus is on the country and the experience and not just having the latest and greatest gear! My first car (1971 Land Rover Series IIA SWB) is still what I use to get away and explore WA in (bought when I was 17 and 22 now). Yes it's slow and loud, but there's something about it
You should check out Roaming The Outback if you haven't already. Great videos about touring remote Australian country without fancy gear and brand new 4WDs.
😈😈😈as per usual, an interesting travel across the country side ... loved your 2nd time with roothie to top end with a slight water leak .. just undid the radiator cap a tad ... cant rmember the rest but .. it was a great episode! 😈😈😈
Back then we still had the WAP (sadly) so all emigrants where from Europe. I was born and raised on the Southern Highlands, (we had a 26,000 acre sheep/cattle station) and the best time to catch trout is early morning and late afternoon.
Great video roothy I know the feeling when the exhaust snapped at the extractors on my 75 landcruiser. I was driving through middle of Brisbane city and noticed it the cruiser was getting louder and sounding horrendous 😂🤣 got back home and noticed the extractors clean snapped off. I thought bugger to expensive to buy another one so luckily my dad welded it back together and I’ve never had a problem since.👌🤙
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I have been to parts of what you covered. Goes to show you don't need a rolling mortgage to enjoy 4WDing on off-the-beaten tracks. Though I disagree with one point of your intro comments. IMO it was the Willy's Jeep that showed the world what a good 4WD can do in really bad conditions. That's the reason both Toyota & Land Rover copied the formula and created their own versions.👍
Just watched this one last week after going through all my 4wd monthly dvds, absolutely a favourite, just looks like it was an all round good trip, love these old episodes, strange to see Big Red without the chev motor and auto hahah, top stuff 👍🏻
My family owned an old khaki HJ40 ute from the early eighties through to 2000. It was an ex-Snowy Hydro truck. Maybe there were some good ones out there but this wasn't one of them, it was slower than a wet week with a very tired, poorly maintained 2H (as was the entire truck). I'm sure some people would be thrilled to own it but my old man still reckons the day he sold it was one of the best of his life 😂
Everytime I hit a hill on the road the ol 2H would almost wind up in first gear it was that gutless. And the smoke in the mornings was horrible. But she still went - just....
@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY yep, they are the memories I have too! It always ran somehow, despite the smoking and whilst guzzling plenty of diesel. How different those 2H motors were to their factory turbo siblings..
Hi Johno, Great video mate. Poor old truck !! Back then you had $4,000.00 invested BUT NOW it would cost a lot more mate. Gees things have changed !! Get one while you still can folks !!! Cheers mate !!!
Yep, they're classics now and too valuable to take bush and damage! Although judging by my OCKA mates. not everyone had got that message - thank heavens!
Love these videos. Every modern show tells everyone you need all this bs gear. I get it you gotta get paid, but like everything else, this world is getting too commercialized. I started out wheeling in my old first gen swb montero with a 3 ton come a long and a few old rigging straps to get me and my friends out of bogs. Later I had 2, 3/4 ton chain come a longs with the same straps. Pulled myself out of quite a few high centered in a second gen montero. I will say, the upgrade to the ol winch was definitely worth it. I would take more chances :)
1 thing i learnt as a kid using mountain bikes put a slick tire inside a mountain bike tire.. you might want to try sticking radial road tire in a off road tire..
@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY understand this John that is not the whole tire than is in the other tire.. the tire that goes in the other has no side wall.. I saw no affect in adding it to my tire.. the concept is a inner liner for your outer tire.. I don't know whether anyone has thought to try and do this on motor vehicle tire I have no clue however from my experience in running a road tire inside a mountain bike tire the concept should work.. though the tire you use is a tarmac only tire.. it stopped gg's for me it may help make your tires last a little longer no harm in trying it
😈😈😈 shoot as much venasin as you can freeze ... not piggy .... a bit back from thedbo is a motel on tye main road just outside of town over looking a town flooded ... apparently back in the day like 25 years agao there were plenty of rainbow trout in there ! 😈😈😈
Yep, I'd agree - about 15 or 16 years - Graham did dvds before Shaun tho, in fact I brought him in originally. Great bloke. Shaun was stuck in the office and building Suzuki's back then - he lived and breather off-road even then.
Getting ready for a big outback trip today - and loving it too. Old was good once but the world's changed and my old jalopies are today's classics... sheesh....
😈😈😈 Thanks for the insight about tge anti freeze information ....my cars got all old lines 😈😈😈😈 no any one where i can get a reconditioned nissan patrol GQ tb42 auto transmission ... youve got mates everywhere. .. im on the sunshine coast .... tney want $400 for a new one ... or maybe a good old school radiator expert that can use a flame melt the brass on top of the radiator and plunge down the the sections where calcium build up occurs ... think its working on a third of its capasty or less .. over heats at light starts back furing and miss firing on lpg or fuel 😈😈😈😈😈
I'd be trying an acid flush first - followed by heaps of fresh water. Then I'd go see an old school radiator guy - there's one inland from Noosa on the road to Nambour - can't remember the name.. sorry mate.
😈😈😈😈 good to see your still makin shows 😈😈😈😈😈
Great to see another of your videos mate! Great area to visit in SUMMER!
Definitely!
Thank you roothy for sharing. Love the old videos and the 40s

Yep, and having 'done that stuff' in later years I know how often a good track was avoided so the filming looked better....
G'day I've spent many a day fishing the Murray at the base of Mt Kosiosko. So many memmories of camping with friends and family.
thanks for sharing mate, one I have never seen before, cheers
Roothy and the red rocket rolls off the tongue pretty well mate. Glad to see you around our neck of the woods👍🇦🇺

Ha! - my first registered fourwd was the same, a '71 Shorty ex-army. Loved it, slow but went anywhere.
@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY hahah so you do have a soft spot for landrovers 😂

Wow! What a great video. Thanks for putting this up Roothy. We camp at Tom Groggin or Geehi each Christmas Holidays. Lovely area.
Sounds great! Wish it was closer for us too!!!

Totally agree with you - Jeep's were first, but Cruiser added comfort and a heater to the job - except my heater didn't work....

Can’t wait to see that, really liked the tray of Red, different to what’s normally done and definitely looked the part
