Raga darbari - probably one of the most famous, and the toughest raga to master. You can easily slip into Jaunpuri, or even Bhairavi, while playing Darbari, even raga Asavari at times. But she, is a master! Long live Noor Zehra ji! Love from India

Thank you so much for preserving the ancient traditions of the subcontinent. Such a rare instrument it is! The intricacies of Rag Darbari are captured so beautifully. I can imagine Darbari being played in this instrument in the inner palace chambers of the Ancient kings at night before they went off to sleep.

This instrument, I think, was heavily modified by the artist's father from the traditional veena(bin) and then handed down to her. So this instrument is somewhat, for lack of a better word, monopolized and therefore available only to their family.

I have listened to her many time, she never plays with rythm and I think that is because she is sliding the metal thing in her left hand to play notes and basicaly the only thing she can do is do slides and slow meend alaaps

Sorry I cannot address you because of your ID!
Saagar Veena appears to be a continuation in the family of stringed instruments.Actually it is a disconnection with the instruments that have evolved "unconsciously" uptil now.Repeatedly it has been mentioned that this instrument was the result of an emotional need to upgrade human connection with music.Which includes the understanding of the human mind, the study of instruments in their historical context, and further awareness about the human need for this art form .Just to take your attention away from your technical concern I am giving you this macro perspective .Lastly let me add the hypothetical position of the architect of this'idea':Our mind processes resonant sounds. The meaning which is nonverbal goes to the listener ,like the human voice,in resonances. Is vocal music without rythm? If the resonant musical sounds are the building blocks of music, instead of laya and Sur,(which are the essential ingredients of musical sounds),the stories cannot be told in music as exercises in musical grammar.Logically so.Now for this hypothesis to be proved the playing technique to optimise resonant sounds for the music of Saagar Veena still needs to be mastered.
This reply is an overload.Pl don't bother to reply for the sake of propriety.Best wishes.
