Just a brief how to video on setting up crossing signals, crossbucks, and whatever you desire for the crossing itself.

One trick I use with gateless crossings is to get the lights about positioned, then place the mast afterward. Copy the position coords to the mast. Then you can select both and rotate them to face the road, using the Copy Rot. feature if I can find a level bit of road.
Also, I don't actually know what each timing value does, especially stuff like 'more serious warning phase'. I usually just set them all to the same number, except the minimum activation distances.
For crossings controlled by small island circuits (usually industrial lines with almost no traffic and very low operating speeds), I'll set the timings to 1 and use the minimum activation distance to trigger the signal
