Can I just say how much I admire the way you review books? Like, you're so empathatic for everything that went into making these books and even when you personally don't like it (like with Monstress, which I felt the sameway about) you don't rip it apart and when you do like it you really show your appreciation. Just lovely to listen to you being kind to books
P.S.--Love your tulips in the background! I was recently looking up pictures of flowers (for Easter decorations) and was, as always, blown away by images of the tulip fields in The Netherlands. Hope your bouquet feels like a bit of home to you!
for some reason, I love graphic novels. not too serious ones, but feel good fun ones (Smile, Drama, Be Prepared, Roller Girl, etc). they always give me good vibes.
Great recommendations ! Getting graphic novel from the library is such a good idea; I love graphic novels but they can be quite expensive so it's great to have the opportunity to read them before deciding if you want to buy the whole series !
As soon as I saw the thumbnail I shrieked “Giant Days!!!!!!!” I love the series so much. It’s completely different from what I usually read like Saga and Sandman and Monstress. Great recs, Sanne 😃
I would be really interested to know if you have read Persepolis and if you liked it. It is non fiction but it was so good! Also a graphic novel obviously.
I just picked up Mary and Frankenstein from the library! It has super beautiful illustrations. As for Heartstopper, I think it’s one of my favourite comics ever, I just find a lot of comfort reading it
i watched that video you made with ariel bissett ages ago and when you recommended death or ice cream i bought it because it seemed very interesting. i ended up LOVING it and i was just thinking about how no one ever mentioned this book on booktube before (to my knowledge). ive been meaning to start watching your videos ever since then for more amazing book recs and im glad i finally did,, im excited to read all the great books im discovering through you!!
See, halfway through a book is the best time to decide whether to abandon it or not :P Excellent video as always, lots of new things I want to read! Just asked my library if they could order in all the remaining Saga series.
I saw the thumbnail and said “oh my god is that Heartstopper” - been following it online for a while. It’s so fluffy I love it. (Some not fluffy bits too but she’s so great with her content warnings.) Edit - I don’t remember if you’ve reviewed this already but have you read Nimoma by Noelle Stevenson? I got it as a gift and didn’t read it for a while and then I did and really liked it. Maybe you’ve checked it out already though!
I did the exact same thing! HeartStopper is actually my favorite ya graphic novel and has been for years, so I get so excited when booktubers talk about it
I have Nightlights! It's stunning, but very dark... Some of my recs: Check, Please by Ngozi Ukazu Spinning by Tillie Walden Homunculus by Joe Sparrow Sparrowhawk by Delilah S. Dawson & Matias Basla Judas by Jeff Loveness & Jakub Rebelka Heavy Vinyl by Carly Usdin & Carly Usdin
My all time favourite book is Fungus the Bogeyman by Raymond Briggs. I love the art style which is detailed, dark and dirty, reflecting the subject. I love the style that portrays this fictional world as if it were a textbook. The book follows Fungus (a Bogeyman) around his normal life, looking at his family, his job, and his troubles with how Bogeymen live. Briggs uses Fungus's life to teach about the Bogeyman species and world. I read this book every few years and every time I forget how good it is and fall in love with it again.
It was one of your videos that first introduced me to graphic novels (specifically through An Encyclopaedia of Early Earth) and now I love them! Looking forward to finding some more recommendations :)
Love Giant days on like vol 42 on Scrid, waiting for Saga volume 5 & 6 to be delivered so good, Heartstopper was lovely and have second on preorder, check out Goldie Vance teenager lesbian detective each volume is a different mystery but you have mostly same characters just being in new ones for that story so good just finished volume 4
Of the ones that you’ve mentioned, I’ve read Monstress’, and while I see that it can be confusing I was kind of fascinated by it. It was sometimes on the line of being too brutal for me, especially the bits about torturing children, but I did like the story and the characters, so I might pick up the second one. ‘Heartstopper’ sounded awesome, so I will check that out! A graphic novel you might enjoy is ‘Witchboy’. It’s about a boy who grows up in a family where boys become shapeshifters and girls grow up to be a witches. Problem is that he is really into witchcraft! Fun comic about family relationships, friendship, and defying gender norms, with really gorgeous and atmospheric art.
Small correction, it was Elle Fanning, not Dakota, in the Mary Shelley film :P Also, I know you don't think you want to read more graphic memoirs, but I would still recommend a couple based on how you feel about The Best We Could Do and that you don't seem to have read according to your Goodreads - if you haven't updated that and actually have read these I apologise: MARBLES by Ellen Forney. It is about Forney's experience with getting diagnosed with bipolar and reflection of what getting treated for it would have on her as an artist. The art is so expressive in it and it's one of my favourite graphic novels. MAUS by Art Spiegelman. This is honestly a must for any graphic novel fan. Horrific account of his father's experiences with Holocaust. PERSEPOLIS by Marjane Satrapi. It's about Satrapi growing up under the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the impact on her life. FUN HOME and ARE YOU MY MOTHER? by Alison Bechdel. These do a lot of jumping back and forth as well, but they are also reflections on what her relationship with her parents has meant for her as a person, the former about her father with, the latter about her mother. She uses a lot of literary and psychological references which can get dense at times, but ugh, they both hit me on a personal level. Small note tho: I wrote my Comparative Literature bachelor thesis on trauma depictions in graphic memoirs about MAUS, PERSEPOLIS and FUN HOME so I might be a bit biased XD
Haha knew I should have double checked! I've read Persepolis, but should definitely reread, and loved Fun Home. I gave Maus a go, but it wasn't really my thing. I'll definitely check out Marbles, thanks for the recommendation, it sounds so interesting! Such a great topic for a thesis. Did you find that the professors were supportive? (I did mine on YA and they didn't really now what it was.)
@@booksandquills Ah good :D Yeah, they were pretty supportive of it, though, I believe Danish universities are a little more lax, at least mine - Aarhus University - is. Plus the assigned counselor for our class specialized in Children's Literature so he was perhaps a little more understanding of the whole unorthodox approach to literature. I'm actually currently working on rewriting that bachelor thesis into a script, along with some of my other exam assignments. As a part of my Literary Dissemination course I am to create a product and I decided to start a RUclips channel with video essays about literature :)
I love the look of Mary and Frankenstein and am a fan of weird so "Tongues" is on my to read list now. Women in Battle looks like a good read for my niece. I get why you didn't like "We Did the Best We Could", but historical graphic novels that do manage to work (in my opinion) are "I Remember Beirut " and "A Game for Swallows" by Zeina Abirached and "Persepolis" by Majane Satrapi.
I'm soooooooooo interested in Tongues (especially since you mentionned it reminded you of Annihilation which is one of my favourite movies of all time), but the only way I can get it is through the official website and the shipping costs to Europe are so expensive :( I love supporting independant artists but I have no money for this lol
Did I spy that the love interests meet via rugby team in Heartstopper? Could this fill the void left after I gobbled up Check, Please by Ngozi Ukazu? :) Between those and one I’ve seen about fencing, I love how M/M romance w/a sports setting is becoming its own popular subgenre…
There was one you talked about awhile ago I'm interested in but I forget the name of... All I remember is it's about a vampire in high school I think? Super vague, I know. If anyone out there knows what I'm talking about please let me know the name of it!!
If you like Saga, you should also give East of West a try! And if you're into biblical mythology, I can definitely recommend Judas! The artwork is absolutely amazing, as is the story. It's like the gospel of Judas, and definitely a great read even when you don't believe in God. (it's published by Boom Studios)
Potato Patata it’s a webcomic, but Springtime of Yuuth is a really cute story with an mlm romance as well! It is a side comic to another one but you don’t really nee to read it (I haven’t, and still enjoy Springtime of Yuuth a lot!)
My favorite graphic novel is The Tea Dragon Society! So cute

Heartstopper is sooo good just sad it's not available in my country but I have been reading it on tapas and always waiting for an update ❤❤❤
Maybe check on bookdepository, it's free shipping worldwide :)
P.S.--Love your tulips in the background! I was recently looking up pictures of flowers (for Easter decorations) and was, as always, blown away by images of the tulip fields in The Netherlands. Hope your bouquet feels like a bit of home to you!
They were a lovely homecoming gift from Rosianna! Love having them around. ❤️🌷
for some reason, I love graphic novels. not too serious ones, but feel good fun ones (Smile, Drama, Be Prepared, Roller Girl, etc). they always give me good vibes.
Nightlights looks a lovely book, will check that out - thanks for the quick reviews
I'd never heard of _Nightlights_ before, it sounds interesting and the art you showed from it looks gorgeous - will check it out!
Totally agree with you on Monstress. I was just lost reading it. Never had that before with a comic book.....
Great recommendations ! Getting graphic novel from the library is such a good idea; I love graphic novels but they can be quite expensive so it's great to have the opportunity to read them before deciding if you want to buy the whole series !
Thanks for the recs! Have not read many of these, and I read and review a TON of graphic novels. By the way, your lighting is dope!
Nightlights - beautiful book. My daughter just turned 7 and found the book quite frightening. I'm putting it aside to give her again in a couple years
As soon as I saw the thumbnail I shrieked “Giant Days!!!!!!!” I love the series so much. It’s completely different from what I usually read like Saga and Sandman and Monstress. Great recs, Sanne 😃
I'm putting every book in my TBR list 😁 and loved the flowers behind ❤️
Loved this video! I want to get more into graphic novels, before I just wrote them off as superhero stories
Saga is the best series and I was super skeptical going in but I'm on the 7th one now.
You forgot to put the titles in the description
I would be really interested to know if you have read Persepolis and if you liked it. It is non fiction but it was so good! Also a graphic novel obviously.

Thank you for the book suggestions! Great video ❤️❤️🤝🏻🤝🏻 You're very beautiful btw ❤️

Heartstopper i literally read vol.1 and vol.2 in one day and now waiting to get vol.3 its the best book i`v ever read.

Ahhh so happy to hear that! Any favourites you've read so far?

You should read
Peter pan by loisel
The eternaut
The gigantic beard that was evil
Descender

I’d love to read the second one but I can’t find it anywhere. I need some help :(
MARY is 1of the most beautiful Graphic Novels ever created & Mansour's Film is 1of my 100 all time favorite. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
By the way 'Tongues' was created by artist and writer Anders Nilsen
I'm soooooooooo interested in Tongues (especially since you mentionned it reminded you of Annihilation which is one of my favourite movies of all time), but the only way I can get it is through the official website and the shipping costs to Europe are so expensive :( I love supporting independant artists but I have no money for this lol

Monstress does explain the past events…just at its own pace… check it out again and ty for this
Would be interested in knowing if you tried the comic Lazarus. Pretty gory, but an amazing story.
Heartstopper is the book that got me into reading 😆such a good book and really cuteeee 😆☺️
Hai. It would be nice if you say the name of the authors. Nice vlog - a shame most of these grafic novels aren't translated in dutch.
There was one you talked about awhile ago I'm interested in but I forget the name of... All I remember is it's about a vampire in high school I think? Super vague, I know. If anyone out there knows what I'm talking about please let me know the name of it!!
Everyone should read nightlights its amazing! I recommend it for people in the age group of 11-14 but anyone could read it!!!
+TheGalacticGrizzly haven’t heard of either of those, thanks for the recommendations!

Quando ela falou "Oi" eu pensei que ela era BR 😅🇧🇷
Sorry to be a pedant but graphic novels are a medium not a genre.
Are you Irish?
this video really helped me thank u so much🤍
