A lot of my favorites are in this video but I will also mention Persepolis which is maaybe the best graphic novel I have ever read. Some other go-to recommendations of mine are El Deafo, Lily Renee Escape Artist, and Emiko Superstar. Can also recommend anything by Lucy Knisley, Gene Luen Yang, and Faith Erin Hicks. Also I actually just started reading the new Archie graphic novel today and I am loving it so much.
You need to check out Locke & Key if you haven't yet. A must read. Another must read for me is The Bunker (it's about a group of young adults who find a bunker that contains letters from their future selves, won't give any more away). Pride of Baghdad is a good stand alone by BKV. We3 is another good stand alone. I'd also recommend Invincible, Preacher, The Wicked & The Divine, Young Avengers, Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), Wytches, The Life After and Morning Glories.
I binge read 15 volumes of Giant Days and got so excited that ended up making a video about it. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them all out😀😀
I actually read Giant Days Vol 1+2 recently (I got interested in it after you talked about it in of your videos a while back) and absolutely LOVED it!! I don't read a lot of graphic novels but it is one of my favourite GN I've ever read and just in general one of my favourite stories ever!! So thanks for that recommendation :3
You should totally check out Mind The Gap. I haven't read too many graphic novels/comics, but Mind The Gap has a really interesting storyline (as well as great artwork). It's a mystery, paranormal thriller. Super good!(:
One of my absolute favourite graphic novels is an autobiographical comic by Natalie Nourigat called Between Gears. It's a page-a-day visual account of her final year of university and shows her juggling all of her responsibilities, dreams, fears, and the realities of everyday life. It's such a warm, honest and motivating (Natalie gets stuff done!!) read for me and her art style is wonderful!
Two of my favourites are all-star superman and preacher, I don't re-read much but I go back to those every couple of years. currently reading Y the last man after I saw you mention it in a previous video, really enjoying it so thanks!
I only got into graphic novels because of some of your previous videos and I'm so excited to add all of these to my tbr. One of the best I've read is definitely Maus!
I think you would really like I Kill Giants by Joe Kelly and JM Ken Niimura. It's a stand alone graphic novel about a girl who has trouble differentiating between reality and fantasy and uses that as a coping mechanism for something really horrible going on in her life. It's my absolute favorite graphic novel ever and I want more people to read it. Also it's being made into a movie!
Great picks! May I also recommend Descender (Jeff Lemire!), I Kill Giants, and Monstress (all Image Comics because I currently work there)? I think you would really like them!
Runaways FTW! One of the best "new" superhero stories there is. If you're looking for something to read beyond Runaways, you should check out Avengers Arena. It's basically superheroes plus The Hunger Games and it has several characters from Runaways in it, as well as X-23 who is one of my favorite new Marvel characters. I don't know if they released it in a Trade bind up, but it's definitely available in digital format from the Marvel website.
I could list loads, especially a lot of what Marvel are doing right now with Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Spider-Gwen or Captain Marvel, but the one I recommend above all is We3. Absolutely stunning graphic novel.
You're videos are literally amazing! I have been looking forward to them everyday! Thank you for always putting me in a good mood! I would really like to see the video on the graphic novels you want to read!
Thank you! I've been wanting to get more into graphic novels. Ones on my TBR include: Here, by Richard McGuire; Daytripper, by Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon; Lighter than my Shadow, by Katie Green; and now pretty much everything mentioned in this video!
I know I'm late to the party but lumberjanes is great and you gotta pick one of those up. I've read the first four volumes and I think it's right up your alley. It's about a group of girls who go to summer camp and shit gets weird. Some magical realism type stuffs. It's good. Just do it, you won't regret it.
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOUR GRAPHIC NOVEL TBR DANA! I've been thinking about emailing you for a long time now, but I'm not sure if that's something you would like us to do. Thank you for spreading so much positive love in this tough time! xxxxx -Charlotte
If you haven't read anything by Gene Yang, I HIGHLY recommend him. I'd say start with American Born Chinese (SO good). I'm taking a historical graphic novel class right now and I've been exposed to so much diverse graphic work, and he's definitely my favorite.
I just finished reading a "Comic strip Biography" of Louis Riel, who was a Canadian historical figure. It was reeeeally good. I also recently read "The Arrival" by Shaun Tan properly (I"d seen pics of pages online) and it is absolutely incredible. Heart-wrenching and affecting and so imaginative. I also love the Tamakis' work - Skim and This One Summer. Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is amazing. Apparently I could go on all day so I'm gonna STOP lol !
Giant days! Is so epic!! I'd love to see a graphic novel tbr video tomorrow! Infact I'm in a sludgery reading slump right now and I'm trying to read The watchmen to fight it. How doth a graphic novel pile read along sound to you?
just a few older ones - Watchmen, Ghost World, Tank Girl (all 3 have been made into films). Also, The Arrival by Shaun Tan which is all art with out any dialogue (not related to the new Amy Adams film). And one that I dream about, but has not happened yet, Neil the Horse : Making the World Safe for Musical Comedy. Someday there will be a bind-up of this great series.
You should totally read "Kobane Calling" by Zerocalcare. Unfortunately It is the only one traslated into English but I can assure you It's amazing. He's huge here, and his style is different from everything else I've ever read. He's so funny and deep at the same time. And VERY Italian in a lot of things (especially some pretty strong words in Roman dialect which are hilarious!). I think Kobane Calling is free on Amazon. Thank me later :)
Sweet Tooth is fantastic! I started it recently and am on Vol. 3. Whenever I go to the library and come across Octopus Pie I think of your channel because I've seen you talk about it before... I need to request it!
I'd love to see your Graphic Novel tbr to get some new inspiration. I absolutely love the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman. Everything is great about it. My favourite stand-alone is Daytripper by Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon. My newest discovery, which I really like, is Rumble by John Arcudi. So I highly recommend checking those out.
I tend to be a little picky with my grahic novel artworks, but a graphic novel standalone i really like is Anya's Ghost it's so good! another kind of fun one i read recently was Oddly Normal, it's kind of like Halloweentown. I also read a few manga's and if you like things like Giant Days, I would maybe suggest Nana written and illustrated by Ai Yazawa. One that I really want to read is This One Summer, have you read it?
I looove Runaways! I've only read the ones Brian K. Vaughan wrote, I sort of lost interested after the writer changed. But his were so good, my fave comic of his. If you want more great teen superhero shenanigans, I highly recommend Young Avengers, and especially Kieron Gillen & Jamie McKelvie's run from a couple of years ago. Great, diverse cast of characters, all of them awesome! I also like Bryan Lee O'Malley, even though I liked Scott Pilgrim more than Seconds. I really want to read the new series he's writing (but not drawing), called Snotgirl, from Image. I've heard good things. And I really want to try out Giant Days, myself.
I recommend The Complete Crepax Volume I and II. If you enjoy new wave films from the 60's and 70's (Godard, Truffaut, Bunuel, Bergman, Fellini, Resnais, Antonioni) then one will enjoy his work. Brilliant artist and storyteller. Jodorowsky/Moebius/Jonjetov Before The Incal and The Incal are extraordinary. And Daytripper by the Brazilian brothers Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon was a great surprise to me when I read it last year. First rate.
I read his Understanding Comics in a university class. I found it really funny and interesting - a very nice way of talking about what makes comics what they are. :) I would really like to read The Sculptor at some point.
Deva Zan, Nimona and A Monster Calls are really good graphic novels I've recently read. I've been wanting to read Seconds for so long but I can never find it in bookstores. Giant Days, Octopus Pie and Sweet Tooth sound so good! I think need a new shelf for my soon to have graphic novel collection haha :)
The Unwritten was one of my fave comic book series of all time, but recently, in later volumes, the story has kinda dipped and I feel like the writer painted themselves in a corner, however I haven't finished the series yet and I do still recommend the series (at least Vols. 1-6, but again I think one has to continue in order to finish and see how the series ends). Fables is also cool, but again I havent finished it and only read the first 4 volumes, because this series has 22 trade volumes!! Plus it had 2 spin-off ongoing titles that tied into the series, as well as a couple of miniseries. Also, If you want to jump into some DC Superhero stuff, Scott Snyder's run on Batman is AMAZING! rich cinematic storytelling that feel ripe for film adaptation, this series has 10 trade volumes, but you can skip Vols. 6&10 because they're kinda filler material ALSO! If you want something standalone, definitely pick up Punk Rock Jesus by Sean Gordon Murphy, its about a Jesus clone who gets his own reality show and weird shit happens.
Hey Dana 😄 great recommendations! most of them are already on my tbr :) my favourite graphic novels are Saga, Seconds and Blankets. I also liked Fables (the first volumes were a little slow but still interesting. once it picked up it became really good! but I'm still on vol. 4)
Mind the Gap is a great graphic novel. I've read most of Morning Glories, it's a very strange graphic novel series still not sure what the hell is going on lol. I loved American Vampire. If you like non-fiction memoir kind of stories, Lucy Knisley is a great author/illustrator to check out...I read 4 of her works this year. Dough TenNapel is a great middle grade author. All of his graphic novels have a moral. I really liked them. Iron West is his adult graphic novel set in the Wild West with robots! I could probably go on and on lol I've read a lot of graphic novels the last couple of years.
I just finished book 1 of Saga. I loved it and bought the second immediately. I wasn't aware that Runaways is by the same author. I'll have to check it out.
My all time fave series is the original volumes of Battle Angel Alita (not the Last Orders series), but that's too violent and gory for me to recommend for everyone. I think in this post-Trump world, everyone should read V For Vendetta, if only to read Val's letter (or you can RUclips it. The film did that scene really well). Cheers for this, Dana. I'll definitely check out Jeff Lemire's work.
Runaways was one the reason I got into comics. I have to comics issues back in 2003 around that time Y the last man also came one.. Brian K Vaughn is sickk..
I'm really loving Sweet Tooth so far! I've read the first two trade paperback volumes and it's fantastic 👍🏻 I'd definitely recommend Locke & Key if you haven't read that series yet!
I'd love to see a graphic novel video when you're able to make one. I'm sort of a newbie. I have many but not too sure where to start. Honor Girl. OMG, incredible. Nimona was good. I Hate Fairyland cracked me up. Demented little girl, she is. I'm thinking of marathoning Saga. Lumberjanes, Rat Queens, and Sweet Tooth. Next? Thanks for your recommendations. I have the first two Runaways, the first four Octopus Pie, and Seconds. Essex County will come soon.
Thanks for raccomanded us all these super titles!! I'm Italian and I want to read all of them in Italian or in English if I don't find the translated edition! ciao :)
Comics and graphic novels are my favorite! Judging by your taste I highly recommend you read Young Avengers by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie, if you haven't already. It's like Marvel Super Heroes meets the Breakfast Club.
I want to illustrate a graphic novel!! If there anyone who loves to write and have a cool and interesting story let me know, we can make something cool together!
Great Recommendations! Also check out Brian K Vaughan's Saga, a grand, funny, weird and poignant space opera where two people from perpetually warring clans have a baby together!
AlyssLysie Saga or Wytches Sandman (it's a bit older) Y The Last Man Depends on your tastes. What are you into? Whatever it is, there's a graphic novel that'll fit. Might have to do a little digging.
You totally sold me on Runaways! Definitely my next graphic novel read!
I just started reading graphic novels to help myself get back into reading.
It's helping alot.
i was binge watching all of your videos earlier today!
A lot of my favorites are in this video but I will also mention Persepolis which is maaybe the best graphic novel I have ever read. I'd also recommend Invincible, Preacher, The Wicked & The Divine, Young Avengers, Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), Wytches, The Life After and Morning Glories.
Lots of graphic novels I didn't even know about. Good to see so many different styles. I'm drawing a graphic novel at the moment in my own style.
I binge read 15 volumes of Giant Days and got so excited that ended up making a video about it. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them all out😀😀
Your energy is so positive. I hope your channel gets well deserved recognition❗️😃🙏
I actually read Giant Days Vol 1+2 recently (I got interested in it after you talked about it in of your videos a while back) and absolutely LOVED it!! Super good!(:
I definitely want to check out Mind The Gap!
I havn't read Mind the Gap yet. But if you like the mystery, paranormal kind of thing have you tried Morning Glories? I think it's really good! :)

I only got into graphic novels because of some of your previous videos and I'm so excited to add all of these to my tbr. One of the best I've read is definitely Maus!
Can you do a video on how you make your favorite cup of coffee? Keep up the daily vlogging! Love it ^_^

It's my absolute favorite graphic novel ever and I want more people to read it. Also it's being made into a movie!
Super interested in seeing that tbr!! Earlier this year I read the graphic novel version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and the artwork was phenomenal!!
Great picks! May I also recommend Descender (Jeff Lemire!), I Kill Giants, and Monstress (all Image Comics because I currently work there)? I think you would really like them!
I LOVE Descender! I'll also definitely be checking out I Kill Giants.

Gore Vidal I have never even heard of any of these. Wow
my favorite is probably The Sculptor by Scott McCloud, it has gorgeous art style. I LOVE broad city so I'll checkout octupus pie

I always wanted to read outside the superheroes genre but I don't know where to start. Thank you for this!
my favorite graphic novel is Maus. I really enjoyed the history. buddy read it with a friend.
I read the Locke and Key series this summer and absolutely adored it!
You should finish Scott Pilgrim. I find myself rereading it over and over. So fantastic!
Hey Dana 😄 great recommendations! most of them are already on my tbr :) my favourite graphic novels are Saga, Seconds and Blankets. I also liked Fables (the first volumes were a little slow but still interesting. once it picked up it became really good! but I'm still on vol. 4)
Great video! Runaways sounds pretty interesting I might have to check it out now lol. Btw you should check our Mind MGMT.
Blankets by Craig Thompson is beautiful and amazing, very chunky stand-alone.
And Saga, because it's another fantastic story.

If you haven't read Rat Queens, I think you'd really enjoy it. Very female and funny fantasy.

Runaways was one the reason I got into comics. I have to comics issues back in 2003 around that time Y the last man also came one.. Brian K Vaughn is sickk..
Love Lucy Knisley's Relish and French Milk. There are a few more books of hers that I still want to get.
I'm really loving Sweet Tooth so far! I've read the first two trade paperback volumes and it's fantastic 👍🏻
I'd definitely recommend Locke & Key if you haven't read that series yet!
I'd love to see a graphic novel video when you're able to make one. I'm sort of a newbie. I have many but not too sure where to start. Honor Girl. OMG, incredible. Nimona was good. Depends on your tastes. What are you into? Whatever it is, there's a graphic novel that'll fit. Might have to do a little digging.
Thank you! I will take a look at those. I like anything fantasy related but I'm open to anything 😊
+Elgato bob The Walking Dead is the best...
Charlotte Moretz I enjoyed it at first. I forgot what volume I stopped reading it. It got stale for me.
+Elgato bob Sure, that's your opinion, I'm cool with that. Have a nice day! 😂✨

Great reviews! Your beautiful btw 🙂
