Here is a David Mamet story.
While trying to become a Hollywood screenwriter, I met a young woman who was David Mamet's personal assistant.
I stammered, "Wow. What is it like to work for him?"
    She said, "It's like nothing."
"What do you mean?" I replied.
"He is a writer," she said. "He comes in in the morning. Then he goes in his office and writes. When the day is over, he leaves."

Mamet told an anecdote about the time that he considered renting an office to go to and write in:
A rental agent welcomed him, walked him down a hallway, opened a door to a compact room, and said, "It has a window also."
Mamet said, "I don't need a window," and ended the visit.

When I was at MIT, I was blessed to get to know David Mamet. The MIT theater department would entice Broadway playwrights to teach the undergrad theater class as adjunct professors, paying their travel, accommodations and speakers fees. The semester I took the class, I had no idea who he was. He took us through Aristophanes, Shakespeare, Brecht, and quickly into the 20th century. He passed out scenes from a play he was writing called "Glengarry Glenross", and we students got to act out the parts during class, before the script was finalized. Amazing experience!

David Mamet, among others, may have saved my life. As a young working class kid in St. Louis, his language and sensibility made me realize that indeed, I was not alone. I eventually left for Chicago to pursue an acting career. I found myself understudying the role of Charlie Fox in SPEED THE PLOW, and ended up opposite Billy Peterson, actually doing it for two weeks. I actually met David, briefly, and found him to be an avatar of grace and good will.
What an experience! He remains a north star for me.
Thanks Mr. Klavin for this offering!!

Loved how David described his teachers in their description of *him* , as being "Intelligent but lazy", saying to the reader, "And you likely were described that way, too".
    Bingo! In my case.

Let's take a moment and praise the courage of conservatives such as Andrew and David (and, others, such as James Woods, Jon Voight, Gary Sinise, etc.) who have lost jobs, industry connections, friendships and income, by coming out as conservatives in an industry that vilifies dissenters and blacklists anyone who deviates from Leftist/Democrat groupthink and orthodoxies. These are all men of conviction, honesty and integrity.

@@surlypiratewench1969 The only religion I see being shoved on everybody is Progressive Leftist Cultural Marxism, and make no mistake, it's a religion. Anybody who thinks man made climate change is real needs to have their head examined. Even IF all the rise in the CO2 level came from human activity, and there's no proof it's not natural, you're talking about an increase of 0.01% of the atmosphere. For that we have to sacrifice the lives of tens of millions of the poorest people on the planet, and even if we do it, it won't change the worlds temperature by even 1/10 of a degree. Then there's the LGBTQ religion being pushed on school children so they can cut their genitals off and take drugs used to chemically castrate rapists, they're being sterilized, that's freaking eugenics, they grow up realize they can't procreate and they kill themselves. Then theirs the assisted suicide program in Canada where I live, they want to extend it with a quota of 10,000 disabled people every year, even though they can't get a single guardian or medical professional to agree with it, so the government says they'll train technicians to do it. We also now have free and legal hard drugs for addicts, overdoses have skyrocketed. Then there's Covid and the vaccines, a person has to be blind not to notice the vaccinated are dying faster than the unvaccinated. There's the support for the Ukraine Nazis that's fed two generations of Ukrainians into a meat grinder, completely avoidable. There's partial birth abortion, there's the jump in the suicide rate since 1970 among divorced men that's killed more men in Canada than either WW1 or WW2 or the American civil war in the U.S. If 500,000 extra dead women happened after no fault divorce was introduced Feminists would be screaming about it, because the victims are male nobody cares. The patriarchy theory supporting it is exactly modeled on the World Wide Jewish conspiracy, they just changed the nouns from Jew to male and Aryan to female. When you look at the number of men a typical divorce court judge will deal with that go on to kill themselves those judges are serial killers. They are compelled to take their own lives because the judgements handed down are so onerous they're reduced to slavery. My point being, any philosophy not from God leads to death, and everything emanating out of the Left leads to death, because the Left have become a death cult pushing their religious beliefs on everybody else.

David Mamet wrote a pretty bonkers screenplay for HANNIBAL, the SILENCE OF THELAMBS sequel. He did some interesting things with that terrible book. I'm not surprised they didn't use it. It's very dense and wordy, as you would expect, and with very specific camera direction. Almost as if he was going to direct it himself.

I recommend Mamet's 2011 book, The Secret Knowledge: on the dismantling of American culture.
I thought it interesting that Mamet described the revelations (his term) that began his conversion at the end of the book, chapter 37.

Is Mamet baggin' on Sally Field? Because I like her. I _really_ like her!
He's right for sure about no one liking the crappy woke Hollywood movies. That's why they've taken to bait-and-switch movies.

I am a firm believer in quitting a game while it’s still fun, but you take that too far. This interview could have been an hour long. I’m going to break the Jewish prohibition against flattery and say that it was an absolute joy to watch Klavan interview Mamet, two cultural geniuses.

But Mamet isn't only describing wokeness but Jewish Power.
Unless you're for Israel, they kick you to the curb. Mamet would never tolerate anyone who calls for justice for Palestinians.

I know everyone complains about the ads during the RUclips videos and maybe I’ll get yelled at for saying it but the company is making inroads into children’s programming without the woke garbage. Programming you won’t need to vet if you let your child watch. Making their own movies and a great bulk of documentary programming on a wide range of subject matter. Movie/series offerings which improve steadily. Podcasts and videos for their several personalities etc etc. If you don’t want to see the ads you can buy a membership which isn’t that expensive especially if you go for the basic package which is about $9/month which almost everyone can afford. They’re a great conservative company founded and still controlled by conservatives, they showcase a variety of personalities, sometimes with wildly divergent views on specific issues but they never police those views. It costs a LOT of money to engage in the programming they are offering. You don’t have to agree with them all the time but you have to respect the dedication and the talent it took to develop the company. A dedication which continues to shine through especially if you’ve been watching the arc of its development since its infancy. I don’t really begrudge the ads if I’m watching on RUclips which I still do sometimes when I’m just too lazy to load DW even though I do have a membership.

It doesn’t matter what the public thinks. In a democracy, there is no way for the public to assert their will, at all. The government just forces things on you, while the media tells you it’s what you want.

David Mamet wrote a line in the film "Homicide" that has stayed with me. I don't recall the question asked by the character but the response by a rabbinical student (as I recall) concerning morals was: "That depends on what kind of a Jew you are."
