Man I got so many memories playing through this as a kid. Sad I never completed it might soon since I've been having a recent urge to play a racing game recently on my 360
Honestly these days I find the bloom effect just kinda adds to the nostalgia to me. As ridiculous as it is, it was such a product of its time. Nice review man!
luckily on PC you can adjust the world effects and turn it off, or turn it down. It also increases the fps so low tier laptops can still run it with not so many issues.
Idk why but grew up playing this & one of my favorite racing titles 🤷🏼♂️ the music while playing was always chill & it was strictly racing which I loved I’m pissed it’s not backwards compatible in consoles with upgraded graphics would be legit
As a kid I never knew you could upgrade your car so I accidentaly passed the game with I think it was Lotus, it was really hard every single mission but I didnt know and I'm glad that I didnt.
You CAN actually turn off the bloom, if you lower graphics settings. I don't remember which setting was responsible for that, but I think it was called "world detail". But then the game looks kinda boring.
Yeah, but nowadays there's a mod called Generic Fix where you can disable the bloom without sacrificing visual fidelity, hell there's even a mod that did exactly the same but you have to use the VLTed in order to installing it
I agree with you that the bloom is out of control in this one, but... man I kinda like it. I just like the look of the city in this one; that sun-bleached, bloom lit, orange-and-blue hued socal look is something that NFS had down _pat_ around the time. Most Wanted 2006 also had it... though come to think of it, I guess a lot of games did that. Split/Second, Ridge Racer Unbounded, Midnight Club LA, Burnout Paradise.... they all did some version of this look. Maybe I just miss that mid-2000's era of racers for whatever reason :P Your reviews of the series are pretty good. I like how they're informative but still under 10 minutes. I gotta ask; are you planning on looking at NFS Nitro at all? I assume most people looking at the series would just ignore it, however I remember thinking the Wii exclusive was actually pretty cool back in the day - it's got a pretty cool style and was the closest NFS ever got to Burnout in terms of pure arcadey-feel. But, of course, it's a stupid Wii exclusive so the only way to play it nowadays is to either get one of those dumb toys and capture footage at a disgusting low resolution or mess with emulators like Dolphin.
Thank you for the input 😊! I would definitely like to check out Nitro only because I haven't played it before but I need to get my hands on a wii first. It is definitely something I will be reviewing when I can!
@@Gamelight7 Cool; glad to hear it's on your radar. Thanks for the answer, and good luck getting your hands on all these games for the whole review series, man!

Bloom effect can be turned off by lowering "world effects" setting. Wheelman level goes to 18, but all events are unlocked at level 14. Camera view can be changed during outrun or highway battle. Map mode has to be changed to "available" in order to see all events and not miss any. Some events can be skipped, but all jobs (34 of them) are required to complete career mode. Nitrous magically increases downforce, allowing cars to corner at incredible speeds. The career premise is that jobs where the player repeatedly crashes into opponent cars until the cars are totaled somehow advances career mode storyline. For the EA DVD version, patch 18 adds a challenge series that unlocks 3 tier 1 cars that can be used for career mode.
It's just bad. Really really bad. Like the shitty handling, the bloom effect that people played it are a distraction, and the you can't even drift lmao. I can applaud them for having the best busted scenes, and the soundtrack was average. I don't even know who are those artists, but props to Undercover for discovering me to Pendulum.
interestingly enough I used to own the game on ps3 back then, it would occasionally have its share of glitches where I would go to the abyss in high speed and clip out of the map, and other times, despite picking the event on the map screen, it would just outright kick me out to the ps3 home menu, a few months later getting the Xbox 360 version, I had a clean run, no glitches whatsoever, the game is quite fun, sure it doesn't hold a candle to most wanted and carbon, but I'll hold this game near and dear since it's fun to play, I even managed to get all the dlc as well, that being said I never played the ps2, psp and wii versions.
I just got it today, it’s like a mix of most wanted and underground 2, obviously less customization but better graphics kind of make up for it. Games mad underrated coming from a first time player and huge fan of underground 2
Your review was done very well I think there's differences between the PlayStation 2 and 3 when it comes to cars and certain futures. I have both but it's been awhile since I played the PS2 version and I just acquired a PS3 version today. However that Jay turn thing it's like an automatic emergency brake and I despise that. The first game that I ever played in the series of need for speed games was back in 1998 it was need for speed 3. And if you mastered quote unquote power sliding or what is considered drifting today you can really fly in that game. Now this game here to me doesn't really have a sense of speed but I still enjoy it.
I still play this on occasion, on a windows 10 PC. Have finished the game at least 5 times - have 3 modified Veyrons - one geared for street (0-60 in 0.5 seconds), one geared for highway and one general purpose. With the cops chasing - I end up creating and causing so much damage that the cops typically give up after 20 minutes and try to escape, which they cant since I can catch their asses immediately and the chase rebegins. I've done 45 min chases once, with 300,000$ damage.
im still having issues with playing the game, it won't let you play past the file creation screen. it just freezes on the first loading screen . any feedback or tips that you might of done to get it to work?
i love that people still care about this game after all years even though I have a very conflicted opinion about it.. I just don't know how to explain it
Straight original one of the best nfs games ever the story the gameplay customization I loved this game so much man I played non stop it definitely wasn’t for your average kid it was a hard game especially when you started moving up the progression system was amazing edit: the 4 lane highways in this game were just nuts huge highway you don’t even see that in heat just 2 lanes for the most part it really felt like you were on the highway and the highway battles were amazing
Despite the bugs and whatnot I still liked this game more than carbon. It felt more mature and the extensive car list helped. It is a shame that the customization was cut down though but damn is the map nice. My favorite NFS map alongside UG2.
love these NFS classic reviews I have a request for hellblade senuas sacrifice review and hopefully a long one this game flew under the radar for many and I would love to see you give it the love it deserved
It's crazy how much I played this, that I don't even remember anything in except when you had to race to a meeting or something. I enjoyed this game the most cuz it was one of the first racing game I played. And I love how they added cops.
i love how hated games from my childhood, are being looked at again in recent years, and being praised while also still holding the devs accountable for the bad things. Undercover is regarded as the worst NFS game in the entire franchise, when I'd argue it ages better than the Ps1 games, and is better than some of the newer games, like The Run, Payback, and the 2015 reboot.
I loved it and did a complete play through. I very much prefer a missions-oriented NFS game and I liked trying to wreck other cars by bumping them. Didn't mind the crappy cutscenes. I'll definitely replay it too because I couldn't find other racing games with as much fun.
Does anyone have any issues and bugs/glitches? It literally causes my PS3 to freeze like crazy. And when it DOES run, it keeps stuttering, sound pops in and out, and I "run out of road" and it'll freeze for seconds trying to develop more of the map. I've been tempted to get it for my 360 instead, but I hear it's glitchy/buggy too. I hear the PS2 version has no problems
I don’t think I have ever played a game that has literally cheated so bad right in front of me. This game pulls so much crap it literally had me just give up. Missing most wanted and carbon
For me personally, Undercover is so close to being a great NFS game, but it just misses the mark. I'll gladly sit down and play it with someone, but it's far from my favorite in the series. One thing that really KILLS the enjoyment for me is the car handling. Even with maxed out parts, jesus fucking christ, cars just constantly REFUSE to turn (even non-Europeans) and the handling and physics in general are both insanely janky. My car goes from straight up not turning at all, to suddenly gaining super ultra turning as I rocket right into a wall or at least smack into it, and cars have strange issues when launching and landing back on the pavement, either bouncing unrealistically and/or suddenly veering right for the nearest wall. This game gets a fat F in the car handling/physics department. They literally had Underground or Most Wanted's models to work with, instead they opted to change it...to this. WHY. I can't drive cars through any corner without slamming into everything, because my car refuses to do what I want it to do. It's inexcusably bad. The story...is okay...at best. And that's being very generous. It's cheesy, it's campy, but then again, do NFS games ever really have super good stories? The cars ARE the story. You're here to race and rice out shit, the story doesn't really matter. But, Undercover's story is very lacking even by NFS standards. But it works...I guess. There was some sort of effort, but not much. The lack of green screens was, however, very much a solid step in the right direction. The car selection in this game is fantastic for the time. There's so many cool cars. Too bad I can't drive any of them ten feet before trashing them due to the handling being totally fucked! I can't even make it one lap before my car is in pieces, seriously. It's tickling that the cops make a return, and that they actually have some sort of relevance other than just to irritate the shit out of you like in Carbon, but it definitely feels dumbed down. Heat levels? Yawn, nothing actually changes. So much for Rhinos being a special thing, as they can now spawn just regularly chasing you and rubberband you just as hard as anyone else. How is a big ass SUV able to keep up with a high in supercar? The same SUV that was slow as hell in the previous two games?? Maybe it's just me and my tastes, but I have to disagree on the soundtrack; bruh, this soundtrack is one of the worst in the series. At least ones you hear in the races. Who picked this soundtrack?! Maybe the PC version has different music, I play the Xbox 360 version. There's honestly ONE song I like in the races, otherwise I turn the music off in the settings because I hate it so much. The car customization is at least...alright. It's definitely a downgrade from Carbon, with far less options (not even window tint??), but at least Autosculpt makes a return, and I very much love how many wheel choices there is in this game. One of the few things this game does get so right, and credit where it's due, the sheer amount of choices for rims is crazy, and they're all Autosculptable! Hell yes! Shoutout to the fact they put the famous vinyl from Most Wanted's M3 GTR in the Manufacturer section for the M3 E46. And the fact that they have the body kit from the GTR available for it, too. The fact that they added those things in for the M3 E46 is just too damn cool. No Cross vinyl for the Corvette C6, though? And no Razor vinyl for the Mustang GT? Missed opportunities, man. But still...you can make an M3 E46 look like the M3 GTR, and they even made one of the AI racers look like a palette swapped version of it. The fact that they put that in deserves recognition. Lastly, the microtransactions. Come on, really? You greedy bastards, NO I don't want to buy Microsoft Points to purchase X car, why does it ask me that every time, too?
I have a question, i dont see shadows that are supposed to be casted by my car. But in this video his car casts a shadow. Would you know whats causing this? My version is 1.1.17 last checked.
Im gonna be honest with you man, you can't be much younger than me. I get you love shift cuz you became an adult and got the pre order so obviously your gonna love it. You dont buy a game on preorder and dont put 200hours. But this game is pretty much not finished. Like Bethesda this game never got fixed. You can play all NFS remastered by fans and fixed. But you obviously dont know much about cars or computers. Forza horizon 5 is as realistic as you can get with full customization. But nfs is arcade/forza is racing sim. I wish NFS wouldnt be like COD and actually take time on their projects. People will look back on these rushed titles and realize the truth. Most nfs are copied/reused ideas. As of 2021. Thats why it doesn't matter what you drive/rwd,awd,fwd plays no factor. Or supercharger is better at low end torque cuz its belt driven and turbos are good at high end cuz they have to spool up. Or tires dont matter. The most broken thing is the cops. There is no real feel. Most wanted it felt great. Carbon yeah. NFS just needs to die like fast and furious and cod. Its all remakes of the same old great titles. After pro street you can easily take a step BACK and look at the title list. It sucked. Nfs 2015 was a cry for help. Oh, a re release of underground with frostbite and more shitty controls that didn't work. I liked it but as soon as you feel you had it. It was gone. These games are meant to make you feel like your on edge with the rubberband. Trust me i can be half course away and watch the car get lifted up and moved. Broken bro. Its a washed up series. Honestly while gas/diesel cars are done with production and EV take over they will definitely be the first to grab that. NASCAR will be EV. Yes its the end of an era my young minded young tuber.
Probably due to licence expiring of car manufacturers. Shift and shift 2 are also gone. Before that Microsoft removed forza horizon 3 from all online stores.
Great review! NFS: Undercover, Dead Space 3, and Mafia 2 are three reasons why I hate game publishers. They don't care about games, they are only interested in money. Activision, Take 2, EA, KONAMI...They have destroyed the potential of so many games, destroyed so many game studios for the sake of quick profits and consumer demands that it is even difficult to count. F... all game publishers, man. Speaking of Undercover, it's rather unfinished than just a bad game in my opinion. Shout out to BlackBox for that, they did everything possible that they could do. EA must die.
NFS Undercover Wii is actually really good I think. The graphics are better, cops are more aggressive in high heat events, and the Home Screen is simpler to navigate.

Wait you disliked the soundtrack even it had Pendulum in it?
Driving a Veyron at 251mph in this game does not feel like you're driving a Veyron at 251mph.
Thats my favorite NFS game 👍
When I was 9 I really enjoyed this game, maybe it was because it was quite an easy game
My game save failed and I lost all my progress but some how none of my cars 🤣
The handling model is so annoying and unrealistic that it made me skipping this NFS episode entirely. Probably the worst NFS episode so far :/
This is not the undercover I remember
I like this one more than the new one
Man this game sucked on the ps3
You CAN turn off the bloom effect dude
I have a question, i dont see shadows that are supposed to be casted by my car. But in this video his car casts a shadow. Would you know whats causing this? My version is 1.1.17 last checked.
it's not working in win 11
Why can't buy this on steam?
Probably due to licence expiring of car manufacturers. Shift and shift 2 are also gone. Before that Microsoft removed forza horizon 3 from all online stores.
A copy of any game is illigal and that is why ea you dont let it play.
Im still playing this game
Anyone for online racing?
As a kid I did not really like this game ngl
Me 4 years old when i did see the cop lady 😳
i know how to turn off the bloom affect
Wait how
Great review!
I played it on my 3ds it was okay for my time cause all I had was a ps3 but now I realised it was awfull 😵💫
me the games good
Good game
tis est not a vediu agAme.. i kanot bleyit
