I love how they prepared for several months, they removed all social media images and no photo opp was taken when they claimed the prize at Lottery office. I didn't win the lottery but I did inherit a small amount. Being from what I thought was a lower middle class household in Kansas, at first it was overwhelming 😳 I did sit on the money and didn't touch it till I found the right financial advisor.

Thanks for your comment! An estate attorney can help you set up a will, a trust, and even assist with certain types of insurance. The extent to which you do or don't need an estate attorney depends upon how much you win, where you live, and what your goals are. I think a living will is especially important.

Insurance helps protect you financially against losses that might occur. For example, if you have auto insurance and get into an accident. Your insurance will help pay for that rather than you. You can have various types of insurance, but the point of it ultimately is to help protect you against financial losses.
@Queen S - with a Nice amount of Money anyone can fall in your front door and put a claim. You definitely need to be covered.
Insurance agent? They’re going to try to sink you into an annuity which is foolish. They get high commissions and the payouts are nothing. Especially in the global climate now. A trust is a good idea. Putting limits in the trust. A medical directive with limits. In this climate I would open with purchase of physical gold and silver. Not stocks. I would trf to funds to a non profit for people I want to help. You can leverage the amounts given to get the deduction for the interest you will get from proceeds As well as supporting God

Get a financial adviser that is a fiduciary. They don’t make money unless you make money. But still keep an eye on what you have. I know a guy that inherited quite a bit and the head of the trust did not pay the taxes on it and skimmed. Also put it in a trust fund.
A good financial advisor is a god send. If you ever buy shares they can help you with them. Give very good advice on multiple things

When I hit a jackpot I will not need a financial adviser. I will just do my own. It's too hard to trust anybody. The only one I can trust is myself. and I know you will be my luck because when I started watching your videos. you give me a lot of chances of winning. I feel that.. that's why I am watching your videos every day.
Thanks for the video Tim! Nobody will know when I won the jackpot. First off after claiming the prize, I will pay off all my debts. Next I will set aside 3 million dollars into bank's fixed deposit, need it to be as liquid as possible and still somewhat grow the money. Yes interest from bank is low and will never beat inflation but my returns are big enough for me to barely feel a pinch because I will still maintain that same lifestyle plus I'm debt-free. Remaining balance of the prize will be used for investments, business and charity because u can't be taking only, u gotta give as well. I wanna start a business because I can't just sit still doing nothing, I need to work on something to give more meaning to life and also to create more job opportunities to help the people.

Yes!! Invest and also start a business doing something we love doing!!! Sit on the majority of the money though or put into IRA's or trust funds for kids or future grandkids etc. But definitely split up some into other banks into savings accounts yes!!!!! I haven't bought a lottery ticket in years but if I did and won big I feel blessed that I have Daughter-in-Law that is a Compliance Officer that has worked for bond agents and also for a mid-western state working between the treasurer's office and the legal department. Also my son worked several years for Edward Jones before he went into real estate, not to mention my eldest grandson is a CPA.

Many years ago I won two grand prizes within a month. It started with a dream I had holding a cheque given by my brother and on the following week I won the first grand prize and after another week the second grand prize was won .

When I win the lottery this year there's probably not many people I will contact because when I had a stroke I contacted people and nobody was really supportive. I would do my best to make donations in about 10% to a reasonable non-profit organization update my living situation and pocket the rest for my retirement

Copy ticket several times and put in zip lock bags for safe keeping in different safe location. Claim anonymously if possible. Don't tell anyone until your lawyer, financial advisor, and accountant are in place and money has been collected. Then only tell people closest to you if you must tell someone. I'd tell my immediate family, get a new cell number, pay off debt, and then get an RV and hit the road for a while. No fancy sports cars or mansions for me. I don't want to draw attention to myself anyway. I'd be charitable but I'd seek professional advice on how to best do that given my financial situation. Most important.... Tell no one until you have your plan all set.

This is very good advice. This doesn't have to be for the lottery. Inheritance also would qualify. Financial planner, lawyer and accountant can save you more money at tax time, solid investments and the occasional person that will attempt a frivolous lawsuit. Even with the costs of these individuals/firms, you will still have more available assets than if you didn't have these people.....and peace of mind. You can refer any business ventures presented to you by letting the individuals know that EVERYTHING goes through your "team" and they will make the decision and contact the person either way, not you. Do your homework. Pick firms with excellent track records. They will be happy to show you their annual earnings and references that you can contact, if they are honest.

Tim, I have a quick question. Should you make your attorneys, accountants, and insurance agent sign an NDA while you’re in the process of preparing to claim the prize?
They already are bound by that

Thanks for your comment! That is very true. It's so important to make sure they are a fiduciary. There must be transparency and accountability. In regards to this specific lawyer, I'm withholding judgement until the case is ruled upon. Technically, you are innocent until proven guilty in the USA. Having said that, if he and the others accused in that case are found guilty, it's really terrible. As a lottery winner, it can be very difficult to trust people. What happens if the people you trust use you behind your back? That's despicable.
