      Smart choice. Everything about Dragon Age (the story, art direction, gameplay and music) has been going downhill ever since DAO. Is it so much to ask for a dark fantasy party-based CRPG with more than 4 dialogue options these days?
      If you are looking for another franchise to cover, I suggest Baldur's Gate, Bioware's original inspiration behind DA. It would be halirious if BG3 sells better Dreadwolf assuming it even releases this year.

Utilizing taint seems to be superior to curing it, at least when in comes to lifespan. Mind you this is what already was achieved by a grey warden mage (one you can allow to conduct further experiments concerning unlocking potential that taint has). In Dragon age 2 in chapter 1 there is even a message from him that he made some breakthroughs (albeit how much depends on whether you allowed him to conduct experiments without restrictions or imposed ethical restrictions on him).

    Just a note - The Mother was not a "born" sentient Darkspawn, but a failed experiment of the Architect, as the reception/return of sentient intelligence drove her insane. Most, if not all, of the intelligent darkspawn we find in Awakening were not inherently intelligent, but rather the subjects of the Architect. As a general rule, it would seem that no Broodmother, Hurlock, ect can be "born" with intelligence without some kind of outside intervention.

    The Black City in the Fade is the prison of the Evanuris, who used their respective dragons to reach out to the magisters to breach their prison. All I’ve said so far is a theory I have and if I’m correct, once the magisters breached the (supposedly) golden city, (which I believe was once golden, but became black) they were either cursed by the Evanuris intentionally or they were affected by some negative aspect of their prison.

      I like the distinction between the old gods and the Evanuris - they're likely connected but i think there are decent evidence that they're not exactly the same thing. We know also that all the old gods dying would be VERY bad ( Drakon's prophecy and the Darkspawn being fully unleashed)
      Evanuris being in the Black city makes a bit of sense ( dead whispers). Tho, i wonder why there, why the distinction between the Black city and the Eternal city, why is it called the abyss? Why is it the source of the taint even tho we know it also predates the first blight.
      Why did the old god stop communicating as soon as the city was breached? (like Hakkon) Something must have happened at that specific time. The magisters actually got stronger from it too (they command the blight like an old god would)
      The Evanuris were willing to destroy the world. The blight looks to be definately related to that. Since the forbidden and the forgotten ones are apparently related - the later one being returning - since we also know a lot more about how spirits works - its likely that the old gods are a type of spirits/god merged and then split from the Evanuris (like Mythal/Flemeth) I believe that its a version of what the Avaar could do.
      I also believe that the city was golden before. Dreamers existed before and the magisters wouldnt believe something they can easily verify at any time in the fade.
      There are still many missing link.

    Personally i think the dark spawn isn’t a type of disease but a type of magical curse. If the taint effecting the dark spawn was a disease it wouldn’t make sense for it to taint inanimate objects like the Eluvians.
    Also I wonder if the taint is a curse created by the Old elven gods to assault the world and destroy the dragons sealed away in the deep roads whom I believe are the seals holding the old elven gods sealed away in the dreaming city. But with the rise of red lyrium and it being able to effect regular people I assume it can effect the dark spawn also. Imagine it, dark spawn bolstered by red lyrium being capable of even more screwed up things then they are now.
    But One thing that still perplexes me is that we’ve seen dark spawn of all types, former humans, dwarves and elves including qunari but the one thing that hasn’t been shown yet is a darkspawn Qunari, the Ogre, capable of using magic. We’ve seen dwarven darkspawn that can use magic while regular dwarves (that we know of) can’t wield magic. And from the Trespasser dlc for inquisition we know that Qunari mages are capable of some really powerful magic so it’s strange we haven’t seen any Qunari darkspawn who can wield magic.

    • @yammoto148
      @yammoto148 5 месяцев назад +2

      My guess is how the Darkspawn taint mutates people is different depending on the race. And they probably don't want to have too many magical users because we don't know what happens when a Darkspawn gets possessed by a demon. So its likely the taint tries to bar them from the fade enough to not dream but keeps the connection so that they can still use magic. It makes sense because normally mages when they dream enter the fade but Warden Mages only really dream of the Archdemon so the call must suppress the influence from the fade. Thus Perhaps why no Ogres can hear the Fade is because Quinari are more sensitive to it and probably require more suppression which cuts them off completely. But this is just a theory.

  • @Stargeek06
    @Stargeek06 7 месяцев назад +2

    My dragon age conspiracy is the blight was created by the Evanirus after they were trapped by Solas in a bloodthirsty revenge plot, which we now know sounds pretty typical of them. The magisters that found them in their prison, the Golden/Black city, were patient zeroed and weaponized by the Evanirus in a play to reclaim their godhood on Thedas. The archdemons are extremely powerful high dragons that date to ancient Arlathan and were used by the Evanirus as avatars that were pacified and hidden away by Mythal to limit the Evanirus during the rebellion. When an archdemon is found it's possessed by one of the Evanirus so they more directly act on Thedas despite being stuck in the Fade. Excluding Fen'harel and Mythalv there's 7 archdemons and 7 Evanirus.
    An add on theory is the Archdemons were originally dragon guardians (like at the shrine in Inquisition) gifted to the Evanirus by Mythal, but they're assholes and used them as war machines. She puts them in the Deep Roads, Evanirus knows about them and finds one, starts the official blight and here we are.

  • @silver7knight389
    @silver7knight389 Год назад +2

    The blight is just a defense mechanism of the Titan's bodies. Something like our white blood cells, created to defend themselves against ancient elves.
    Let's see the facts:
    Lyrium is the Titan's blood, constantly "attacked" by ancient elves (the virus). Therefore the Titan creates red lyrium, which contains the Blight (defense mechanism).
    We know this from Bianca, only she thinks it's normal lyrium corrupted, instead of it being the corruptor.
    This is supported by a piece of info from Trespasser, where it says that the ancient elves collapsed their mines in horror of what was in there (probably the first corrupted elves/darkspawn)
    So, Corypheus didn't enter the golden city, he entered the ruins of Arlathan in the Fade, and got infected by either red lyrium or other source of the Blight that was concealed in Arlathan, and brought it back.

    My personal theory is the black city was always a prison, designed to hold the source of the blight there. That the magisters broke it open, infecting themselves and others because they didn't understand that what they were looking at wasn't "the holy golden city" of the maker, but a prison full of a contagious entity/spirit/disease. Sorta like pandora's box.
    And that while the arch demons are dragons in their slumbering forms, that they're actually the great old gods, or the Elves who became gods. Because if you look through some of the more obscure lore, there's a mountain the cantry guard that has nothing to do with anything else, shooting down specifically any dragon that goes towards it. Because there's a scrap of lore that indicates that any "dragon" who makes it to the mountain's peak and does a ritual becomes a god. I think this is where the elves who could take dragon form, went and obtained their "god hood" and the chantry, while selling one side of a lie to the people, are actively trying to stop any new gods from being created that could either topple their power structure or who could be corrupted by the taint and become new arch demons.

In this respect its a world that always combines two extremes. It doesn't help the Darkspawn are a constant force of despair and edginess if there is no genuine hope and faith you can beat them, its why light hearted characters like Alastair are perfect for this type of series but everyone apparently hated him being that and wanted to harden him. • @HanithSVK
    @HanithSVK 11 дней назад

    I still maintain my opinion that "Golden City" was just a seat of power for Evanuris(so-called elven gods) and after Fen'Harel locked them away, they prepared some kind of "trap" so that anyone who manages to enter that city(those "gods" could've suspected that some of their people will eventualy come looking for them) will trigger it.
    My theory is, that their plan was to make elves so desperate that they would rather take life in slavery than death(though that was the "beauty" of said plan, because Blight do not always kill immediately after contraction). Now, IMO, they hoped that if they exert enough pressure over their brethren, some of them will manage to rip the veil and allow them to come back.
    But, just like Solas, they did not account for the fact that elves lost 90% of their powers and their lifespans, so even if they truly wanted to rip open veil, they simply could not(and that is not accounting for the fact that after the creation of the veil, the resulting disaster wiped much of the ancient elvhen knowledge).
    Now, the connection between Old Gods and Evanuris is quite simple. We saw that Mythal could control dragon, the one that Inquisitor can tame if he/she drink from the Well. So my theory is, that the reason why Darkspawn instinctively are searching for "Old Gods" is simply because they are sensing similiar power to what they are. In a sense, i would say that Old Gods were amongst the most powerful pets ancient elven "gods" had at their disposal and they were linked to them like Corypheus was to his pet dragon. But when the Veil was created and that connection was cut, they fell to slumber(just like Solas did after he created veil and expended most of his power).
    The only problem with this theory is that how exactly did those dragons got into the deep roads. But since we know about Titans from descent, and we know that Titans were also at some point at war with elves, it is possible, that after "gods" were banished and veil was created, some titans picked up those dragons and imprisoned them underground... Though why did they not kill them outright in this scenario would be beyond me.

Maybe Solas or the elven gods sealed the maker away, which is why there was no one upon the throne when the magisters entered, and the city turned black as a trap left behind by the elven gods should the Maker find his way back. Just food for thought. We will probably get some pretty huge answers and surprises in Dreadwolf

    Thus, the reason are always looking for them. And by some side-effect, that Old God becomes Archdemon.
    It's like they barely remember what they were, but their "old selves" somehow still linger within their savage nature.
    We've seen a potential "cure" by the Architect. Sadly, some tend to go mad without being "guided" by the Blight's influence.
    As for the Blight itself, and the so-called Golden City, well I'd say the Chantry stories are just plain wrong. The city was always Black.
    Likely warped and full of taint since after Solas brought up the Veil and that city used to be an Elven Capital.
    And I still stick to my theory: the Blight and the Maker are all a fabricated plan by the Evanuris, the old Elven Pantheon trapped in the Fade.

    I love the Darkspawn and the mystery surrounding the Blight! Personally I always thought, especially after the Descent DLC, that the Blight might have something to do with the Titans. I mean, we know that Titans, just like Arch Demons or Corypheus, emit a song that has the power to control those that fall under it. Sha-Brytol have quite a few similarities with Darkspawns and reminded me a lot of them.
    My suspicion has been that the Blight started through the Evanuris inside the fade one way or another. The most probable cause being infecting the magisters that stumbled into their "Trap": the golden city. My theory is that the Black City could have turned black due to the fact, that the "Golden City" had been an illusion to lure those arrogant enough from the beginning, and "turning black" was just the Evanuris not seeing any point in keeping up their deception since they had already fulfilled their goal and had no further use for the lure of gold and devinity.
    When the Magisters entered the city, like Starkgeek said in their comment, the Evanuris could have used them to be "Patient Zeros" through which they could release the Blight into the world beyond the fade. My assumption through sending them into the Deep Roads. I remember reading about Evanuris collapsing caverns and tunnels and entries to the deep roads, saying they had unleashed something terrible in Trespasser. I always wondered if what they unleashed couldn't have been a blighted titan. Solas describes those that unleashed the Blight as fools, and that in my opinion would fit with tainting a Titan with the Blight. I've been also wondering whether the Blight, Red Lyrium and Titans aren't connected as a whole. We're finding more and more of it, like it's spreading. Arch Demons don't like fighting on the surface if not absolutely necessary and the Dark Spawn also come out of the Deep Roads. The Dwarfs were the first hit, and they are still defending the surface every day. There's a connection there to me. Possibly that the reason we have reports of a Dwarf seeing 3 Darkspawn dressed like kings arguing about the black city in the Deep Roads is that they reawakened the tainted Titan either willingly or through being tainted by the Blight and drawn to the Titan like moths to a flame, and now they are serving that Titan in one way or another. My suspicion is that it started with 1 Titan, far far down into the stone, but that that taint has been spreading... closer and closer to the Thaigs of the Dwarfs and the surface. And that Red Lyrium is a byproduct of this. Which is also why we're finding more.
    What if through the Magisters and the reawakened tainted Titan the taint spread in form of red Lyrium to more and more Titans underneath the earth. If a dwarf or any living being ventured too close they could be overtaken by the calling, and thus a slow infection spread that ultimately started seeping out of the cracks in the stone.
    Of course that's all just speculation and I'm aware that there are probably many inconsistencies that don't really make sense. But there was so much focus on the Titans, the mention during Trespassers and the runes speaking of Mythal and the sealing of the Deep Roads, the war with Dwarfs and Titans... to me that's just too much to ignore. I think they are somehow connected.

    One thing that’s always confused me, I probably overlooked something but if the archdemon is an old god would that make all dragons old god? Like specifically the one you have the option to poison andraste ashes with, is that high dragon a god as well? Would it have any form of intelligence? Is that why andraste ashes would be corrupted? If so how was it not trapped with the rest of the pantheon?

    I love the concept of the darkspawn. I hope we can bring them back to the forefront in another game for some reason. That being said can we please get DA:O darkspawn armor back? The darkspawn armor in DA2 and onward looks goofy to me. I might be in the minority about that though. lol

    The hurlock alpha codex entry lends some insight into darkspawn' motivations. When asked what does his people want, the alpha replies: "There is no talk. No negotiation. You will die. Your world will die. Now you understand."
    This sounds oddly familiar to what Solas says when asked about his plan in Trespasser...
    Looks like there are 2 opposed parties interested in the end of Thedas: The elvhen empire led by Solas, and the darkspawn, led by whatever the evanuris awakened while mining titan corpses.

    The first and the mother weren't special darkspawn, they were failed attempts of the arkitec at freeing the darkspawn from the calling, in fact the mother was driven insane because she no longer heard the song of the darkspawn as she put it.

    You are wrong:
    1) Mother could speak just because of Grey Warden's blood given by the Architect and she was insane cause the process of turning someone into the broodmother...is insane
    2) A tainted person will not become true darkspawn but something different. There are many examples of what tainted person looks like after some time. Not real darkspawn reproduction but anothar mean to spred the Blight
    3) Intelligent darkspawn mentioned in the codex are heavily implied to be original magisters who were cast down from the Black city

    I'm not a 100% on the lore, but.. isn't it so that all darkspawn are just creatures inflicted with the taint? I know there are many who are birthed from brood-mothers, but brood mothers too are normal beings who have been warped into a darkspawn? And their offspring still have the "genes" of their brood mother?
    So Dwarves infected by the taint become Genlocks, humans become Hurlocks, elves become Shrieks and Qunari become Ogres? (My 17 year old self was so proud for seeing the correlation in that when playing DA: Origins back in the day.. Not sure if this still holds up with all the dragon age-lore published today?)
    And there are no darkspawn that are "raised above" being infected by the taint?
    What if Arch Demons, then, simply are dragons infected by the taint?
    What if this "greater will", or hive-mentality, that seem to be behind the Blight, is just a result of thousands of consciousnesses being "pooled together" by whatever process the taint makes the hive-mentality by?
    Also, don't remember if dragons in DA-universe can actually communicate with mortals? But if not, I imagine their "great inteligence" really coming into its right when its being fed into this hive-mentality shared by all dark spawn. Maybe even their great intelligence lets them assert some kind of influence over the others, and maintain some sense of self? And this is why tainted dragons, or "arch demons" are natural leaders for the dark spawn?
    I think this would be really interesting. Like, there are no higher purpose or demonic evil behind the Blight, its just the result of many small voices all crying out and creating a "perfect storm". Even the old gods, or dragons, are a part of it. It really asks some big questions about what "godhood" actually means and how all creatures really can fall to the same influences...

    The Darkspawn remind me of the White Walkers from Game of Thrones. The appearance of being creatures that randomly attack, but hints that they are more intelligent than at first glance. And the mysterious origin. If the Black City really is Arlethan, and unrelated to the creation of the Darkspawn, plus Corypheus saying the Darkspawn already existed when he was a wee lad, where did they come from, or were they always around? Also, there is one cure for the Blight that is 100% effective and that is *spoiler alert* deez nutz

    Well the Chantry doesn't touch on ancient Elvin lore at all. Solas created the Veil to the beyond/fade long before the Tevinter old gods came into prominence. The golden city existed, but was this due to the "gods" merging into one god (the maker) or was the maker already there? Hmm...
    Goaded by the seven gods of Tevinter, the 7 high priests worked together (but also in secret, hence the names like Corypheus and the Architect) to reach the golden city. Turned it black. The seven true high dragons (the old gods) get locked deep underground. Perhaps they are easily tainted to become archedemons because of their high priests.
    So neither really contradicts the other. And most likely the three that a dwarf saw arguing with one killing the other one were three of the magisters. That would mean that after DA:I (if you killed the Architect like I always do) there are only four of those blighted magisters left (unless the four went at it and killed each other).
    I think the archdemons show up for the blights in the same order as the magisters entered the golden city before it turned black (Dumat was the first and, given the self importance Corypheus has, he probably entered first).
    I also think the titan (pretty sure there's actually only one, but could be wrong) is immune to the blight. Only the lyrium that grows outside of the titan's actual body is affected. This thought is because we literally don't see any signs of taint in the titan and the darkspawn avoid the entire area. Granted I also think the first instance of the titan causing earthquakes mentioned in the Descent DLC was due to the arrival of the blight because it was scared it would succumb.
