- I will restore this rusty mechanical elephant bank made by Hubley. The mechanism is not working and it's missing a spring.
I started by dissasembling the bank. The parts were cleaned from old paint and rust with laser cleaner I loaned fron W2M laser, to learn more about that you can go to: w2m.fi/en/lase...
The pieces inseide the bank were protected agains rusting with gun blue solution. Other pieces were painted.
I created a tool to easily make a new spring from piano wire with just a hand drill to replace the missing spring. I ended up using 0.5mm wire.
I hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed making it. Thanks for watching!

Never change how you do these videos! I like you don’t include any music in them since I think they distract from the natural sounds from all the moving parts
Yeah it's basically ASMR the music would totally ruin it.
I use his videos to help me get sleep and they work wonders
Watching one of these before bed so good
I agree with what everyone has said. 🔇
@@Drayton226 I do the same. They're perfect if you're not quite ready to fall asleep but don't want to watch an actual TV show which wakes your brain up.
I find these videos really relaxing.
You’re absolutely right 🙌
This little elephant bank was probably a treasured belonging of a child or even an adult who kept it throughout their life. You did a great job restoring it. It probably looks how it did when it was new.
Great if you don't look at the details. But then again I must be used to watching real restaurateurs like My Mechanic and others...
@@mmdirtyworkz what you do you mean "real" ones? so this is all fake?
@@riskyrecipeh4858 No not fake. By real I meant when things get truly restored to their former glory. This guy is ok but not like My Mechanic for example, that guy is on another level. Check him out. Not bashing Odd T but he's still not on that level.
@@mmdirtyworkz super disrespectful to come on a guys page, talk shit, then plug a completely different person.
@@riskyrecipeh4858 don't get your panties in a twist boy
That laser thing was almost like watching magic. Great video as always!
I was watching how fast it was and thinking that it looked like science fiction - like it belonged in a movie about manufacturing in the future. It looks almost fake, but I know it's real; it's just so amazing to witness.
I'd sub a channel just laser cleaning things.
true
I used to hate the laser. I liked the old processes. but this time I found it very satisfying.
I actually own this exact bank. It used to belong to my grandparents. It's at least 50 years old. The comments about the gray are spot on. It's actually a darker gray. In addition, the eyes are all black, not white with black pupils and on the feet, the toenails are painted black. This was a fun restoration to see. I've always wondered what it looked like inside after all the years of looking at it and using it.
When I Googled it, I found many different colour variations. I suppose one could restore and paint it many ways then! 🙂
It can be worth a lot of money for the rarity’s
maybe they just didn't bother painting it before hence the darker gray tone : )
@@33v4. It's definitely painted
I found one of those in an old house I rented in Utah about 7 years ago. It has a blue howdah though and can often send the penny flying over the elephants back. I absolutely love it.
"I need to Mike Tyson the elephant" is a wonderful phrase.
I came here looking for this comment
I think your method of paint and rust removal is the best and fastest I have ever seen.
This is the first time I have been disappointed in something you have repaired. I just hated seeing the old paint removed. I think the elephant gray was a bit too light. The painting of the seat turned out beautifully. The repairs on the inside were wonderful to watch.
Would you like it rusted?
@@gameyord7182 I would like the aged patina on the exterior cleaned and then sealed to prevent further loss of paint.
It's satisfying to watch that rust remowing with laser. It's seems to be quick and easy system to use.
I have a statue from my grandparents. It's an elephant carved from wood and the tusks are actual ivory. It's a heirloom. This reminded me of it
How delightful and sad that all these treasures are almost gone in peoples minds, there’s is so little joy in common folks lives these days. If it wasn’t for people like you we wouldn’t remember at all. He’s a beautiful specimen of times gone by and the happiness that people bestowed upon each other
I see a new Odd Tinkering I click and enjoy a peaceful asmr of restoration. I'm simple like that and I love it. Thank you Odd Tinkering Finnish fellow.
You making a whole can shaking rig is both hilarious and genius 😂
This man could restore balance to the force
Properly fitting slotted screwdrivers are so satisfying, even just to watch.
watching the original paint get destroyed was somehow both super satisfying and immesely painful
Just immensely painful for me. My heart sank as I watched the patina and original paint be burned off a 100 year old item.
I like the result; Love the laser cleaning. Paint job looks a little rough though. Maybe because of the rust pits underneath. Could have done with some filler/sanding maybe.
To me, most impresive thing is how precisize you paint.
Just imagine. A hundred years ago when a child played with this coin bank, Laser's weren't invented and the physics leading to the invention weren't fully understood.
I will never get tired of watching laser rust removal. Maybe one day, when it becomes an average consumer product you can just buy off the shelf.
I can guess that thing is not cheap, but I want one!
Beautiful recovery, she succeeded :)
Great restoration as always. Ha ha, The Ducktor on a spring. Love it.
the neighbors must love him when he starts making videos
Love your videos! Always soothes me when i need to wind down from either a hectic day or just life with anxiety in it self. Though i do miss when you did the different baths to remove rust instead of the lazer, i understand it takes much more time. But it was very satisfying when you scrubbed the baddies away. 😊
I agree, the rust remover baths were so oddly satisfying in a way the laser just can't replicate! But it's cool to see him doing new things and other people seem to love it, if it saves him time then I get it 😅 but I'm glad I'm not alone
I love that you restore antiques in addition to electronics. It’s such a neat gift you have! ❤
Wow how relaxing great photo filming unscrewing etc.i can watch that rust and paint Lazer all day awesome. Resto
There's something about laser cleaning that calms me down. The sound? The way it instantly gets rid of the rust? I have no idea, tbh. I could watch an hour long video of someone using a laser cleaner and I'd be calm af.
The derusting laser is just so satisfying 😌👌
If you left in all footage from the laser cleaner I wouldn't even complain. It's so satisfying to watch.
(But I understand why you don't of course.)
I love the way he made the new spring
great job and many great thanks that you don't add music or small talks about everything what loving many vloggers.
Sometimes the best restorations are the simple ones! Great job 👌
It turned out great, there is something to learn. I think I will reach this level soon
Thank you for doing another mechanical bank restoration! I love them. It's just so interesting. Keep up the fabulous work 👏 💪 👍
I love your content. It's always relaxing and inspiring.
Someone buy this man some larger paintbrushes! Beautiful work as always
And that's officially the best paint mixer I've ever seen.
I have one of those as well! It's Wonderful to see this one get the love it deserves!
I need to stop watching these at midnight because I keep almost passing out due to how relaxing these are :P I need to watch these during lunch or something when I won't fall asleep!
I had to do some work on a personal electronic, and I thought to myself “I need one of those fancy _Odd Tinkering_ screw/part organizers……then I realized it’s an ice cube tray 🤣
I had one just like it growing up! No idea it was that old.
WOW, great job my man.
Love these heffalump coin banks! Hint for future: larger pupils in the eyes for a less "mad elephant" expression. 💙🐘
Great job on 1️⃣9️⃣2️⃣0️⃣,s cast iron mechanical elephant bank restoration 🥰🥰🥰🥰😎🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I’m always here for the laser.
Excellent job and a beautiful paint job.
The spraycan-shaker felt like a torture device for a second 😂 So inventive! Love it
Fantastic work as usual! I love your videos and your channels. Thank you for sharing it with us!
"Frickin' lasers!"
I love your videos, so relaxing.
I'm in love with your style. The way you have a splash of personality and individuality come through in your videos is so charming. Nerdy, cute, concise, organized, AND good at what you do.
Simply beautiful.
Your videos give me inspiration to restore - they are just so relaxing
a clear example of why references are so important and should always be used whenever possible: those eyes look terrifying
Dr Evil’s voice
The Lazer Beam!!
Two things in this life I love: elephants and mechanical banks. Thanks for this one, @OddTinkering ❤️🐘 I really like your channel a lot; it is über relaxing.
You are one the most talented people in youtube, no doubt. But this was more attractive like decoration element with a vintage look of it.
Trinkets from the 20s and 30s are the coolest. They don't make beautiful novelty items like they used to
Cool project 👍 turned out great
Follow the bouncing Ducktor! 😂
Seriously though, awesome job!!!
Unique elephant bank, looks great shape for the age.your restoration is spot on as usual.great piece of nostalgia.great video.kudos 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Such a cool piece! It's always fun watching your videos, I enjoy them a lot!
Лучший!!! Спасибо за потраченное время!!!
this is the first time I saw you using rust cleaning laser, the process and the result was very satisfying. I could watch it all day.. also the paint shaker machine, hahaha wonderful invention
Well done, then...😏
So perhaps, which one is the *better rust cleaning methods* to you, Fahmi? Is it by hi-tech laser, sandblasting, or maybe the old school *chemical rust remover* right?
Wow good restore👍👍🥰
This is the epitome of work smarter, not harder
😳😳 That laser is bad ass!!!
okay that cleaning laser just looks like witchery to me
Awesome job on the restoration, as always brother. Your videos are most enjoyable, and informative! Please keep up the good work. God bless. Rev. D.
your videos are so beautiful! You're amazing, good job!
I loved every second of this. 👏🏽💕
… Wow. Beautiful.
What a great job! Good thing you made the spring lighter, or it would’ve flung that penny clear across the room. 😂
Fantastic bank!! And great restoration!!
Awesome restoration! Colors for the elephant aren't quite right, but they look good!
whoa, that laser is awesome!!
I still see lots of visible rust spots after the laser cleaning, and while painting. This isn't bits of the red paint either. Won't that cause problems later?
And the elephant will never forget his friend who made him whole again! 🐘🐘🐘🐘🦆
good boy
you have done well
Cast iron is interesting that it ages well depending on the environment is on. This is the coolest restoration so far!
What’s really crazy is we can make even more durable things today but choose not to. We’re so infatuated with plastic because it breaks easy and we have to keep spending money on more plastic crap. It’s nothing more than corporate greed and it makes me sick.
The patina and faded paint was beautiful. Is there ever a restoration when that should be preserved?
It should have been preserved in this one.
Maybe I'm missing it... but how do you open the bank to get the money back out?
Great job as always! Elephants have brown eyes though.
I like the silly can rattler. XD
LOL! "Mike Tyson the elephant"!! I see the Ducktor has a bit more spring in his step! 🤣
Youve done a really good job! Live from France as allways
Well done. I have a small collection of "penny banks" myself, and they are really cool. Some of them worth really big money, but you need to know what to look out for if you buy one. Sadly most of them are fake. If you buy them online I would say 99 are fake out of the hundred. The real old originals has a black patina, what is really hard to replicate and the casing is more refined, they used very fine sand and different type of moulding method.
Keep up the good work my brother introduced me to this channel. Very impressive.
I have a cool idea for a video. Get the equipment to go magnet fishing (basically a powerful rare earth magnet on a rope, that you can cast into the water to bring up metal scrap), see if you can find something interesting, and restore it. would be quite the interesting challenge.
That's a awesome little project with a lot of skills. The technique to build the spring is really cool and I love the laser cleaner. The handcoloring needs a lot of skills too. Great video 😎
Nice work compliments.
I need that cleaning laser in my life
I’m sorry, a cleaning laser?! What a time to be alive.
Fabulous, OT!
Actually laughed my ass off when you mechanically shook the spray xD
As an American, I thoroughly appreciate the Mike Tyson joke. 🤣
Well done!
Odd tinkering is one of the few people wich do not remove that cast marks. Which I appreciate. When you do that you remove some of the character that the original piece was.
When making springs that way be very careful and don't go full speed with the drill. I did that once and nearly lost a couple fingers
