      Little_Squidward Yeah it rly amazes me. I remember last year in choir we went to contest with only a few people cuz our choir was small and most people couldn’t come and I was like wowww cuz I didn’t think that we were loud enough until I heard the recording

    Being really serious, I think this is one of the best melodies ever composed. For example, the way it changes time signatures is so seamless, it has a lot of freedom, and it's really gorgeous of course.

    Love how Dr. Cook directs this one. He doesn't direct for timing. The choir is right on without him. My older siblings said practices were brutal. This song really highlights his skill as a director.

    Dillon wasn't impressed with the conductor, however I feel you should listen to what the conductor has produced by the preparation of the performance. Sir Adrian Boult always looked unimpressive conducting, but he said there was no need to look impressive if you have done your work properly beforehand!

    It took me listening to that a couple of times to figure out why his conducting is so unique. Don't misconstrue what I am about to say. He is a masterful conductor and the singers are top-flight. The song is in 10/8. Occasionally it goes into 6/8 and 4/4, but even if he directed it in half time, he would have to do that 1-2-3/1-2 patterns over and over again.

    • @matthewsaxman1028
      @matthewsaxman1028 10 месяцев назад +1

      If he conducted time in the 10/8 section, he'd show 4, with groupings of 3-3-2-2 eighth notes. Think "long, long, short, short". But I wholeheartedly agree with his choice to NOT do that, and focus on style instead, with his gestures.

      The conductor does not get in the way of the music. Obviously, it was so well prepared that he was able to get out of the way. Very subtle gestures with wonderful presentation shows what a master conductor he is. I have no idea what Dillon is referring to.

    • @marysdogsrescue

    • @KolbyVanCamp
      @KolbyVanCamp 2 года назад

      Nah lol the conductor did his job, and has an impressive amount of belief in his group. He knew what the maximum amount of information was he wanted to give, and his ensemble responded accordingly. Conductors who flop all over the stage truly miss the point, especially when working with chamber groups.

  • @jimtaylor8706
    @jimtaylor8706 7 лет назад +5

    I really love this piece, not too keen on the performance. The energy is good, but the Latin is poor, and they sound like a high school choir. No color, just white, bright sound, like an MT choir. It's nice bough, but bland.

    • @lionsmaine1238
      @lionsmaine1238 7 лет назад +2

      No

    • @ZipplyZane
      @ZipplyZane 7 лет назад +11

      Yeah, no they don't. I take it you haven't listened to many high school choirs on here. They sound much better.
      Could this community choir sound better, like a more professional choir? I'm sure. I agree the Latin isn't perfect. Still, it's music to my ears (pun intended) after the other stuff I've been hearing.
      They've crossed that line where the improvements are small and harder for non-musicians to even hear the difference. That's amazing for a community choir.

    • @jimtaylor8706
      @jimtaylor8706 7 лет назад +1

      Nah, just sang professionally for 25 years and taught at university for 15, put more than a few into professional careers...would have no clue mate. None at all. Thanks!

    • @ZipplyZane
      @ZipplyZane 7 лет назад +9

      Jim Taylor I didn't say anything about your music experience. I said you must not have listened to what an average high school choir sounds like. Nothing you said contradicts this.
      The average high school choir (and not their chamber choir) has slight tuning issues, vowel problems, hard to understand consonants, balance issues, etc. And their voices are underdeveloped.
      They are a *community choir*. No, they don't sound like a professional choir. But they do sound much better than the typical high school choir.
      At this point, you'd have to be a professional to notice the flaws. _So I already knew you had to be a professional._
      While I'm not a professional, I also sometimes offer critiques on RUclips. But I give them things that they could actually fix at their current level, and I am sure to point out what they are doing right.
      It's called constructive criticism. What you gave was just an insult.

    Please do not get me wrong, but native english speakers should not sing in Latin. It sounds pretty funny, although it is great performance.
