    Are you ready to challenge convention?
    2 car generations later: actually, let's go back to convention.

    I'm a lucky owner of a 2003 A Class in the States and every where captures attention . It's a Jewel.

      Did you buy Doug Demuros on cars and bids? He the only one I know who’s bought and sold one in the US 😂

    One of the era's most innovative cars, the other being the all-aluminium Audi A2.
    The A-Class was neatly designed but poorly executed, the Audi more or less the opposite, although with even worse engines.
    The A-Class went on to be a success, the A2 a flop. As a result, he A2's collectability has already started.
    Wish I had both in my garage though. Car design peaked in the early noughties!!!

    It's very clear that this was produced /after/ the infamous "Elchtest", which leads to ESP as a standard feature not only in the A-Class …
    The sandwich concept would have been perfect for making a electric drive version of the A-Class - and Mercedes did so, "The A-Class Electric Vehicle" using the ZEBRA Battery System.

    Both my dad and my sister each own black W169 models (A150). I think they are a neater design than this W168. They are very happy with them.
    I can't help but think that DIY maintenance must be a pain with that engine position.

      I had an A class 170D, all you could do under the bonnet was check the oil, there was no room to do anything else at all. Everything was an engine out job 🤢

      @99ron30 2 года назад +1

      The W169 is much nicer and better quality. Yes you are right, the engine is awkward to work on other than doing an oil change or maybe spark plugs. But I suppose most of us never have to do more than that, if its been looked after, on a quality timing chain engine. I suppose a Mercedes specialist should know the most efficient way to work on them. Subarus are also hard to work on with the boxer design, but they get a very positive reputation for reliability and seen as a sensible choice. And my e90 BMW requires you to take umpteen bits off just to change the air filter. So it shouldn't put you off the A class really.

    I have this A class engine 1.7 cdi from 2003. I cannot describe to you how good and quality a car it is. I was prejudiced and he was ugly to me. But now that I've had it for 4 years, I've fallen in love with this A-Class. The car consumes 5 liters of fuel per 100 km. The car has no problems and every part on it, every little thing is perfect. So far, I've covered about 80,000 km and I haven't had a single major problem. I changed the clutch and brake set, two shock absorbers and one stabilizer bar. that's all for 4 years. Of course, I do a small service every 8,000 km.

    A Class is very safe! Sets new standards! Well, it certainly did set new standards all right, just not in a good way.

    Ja imam ovakvu A klasu motor 1.7 cdi iz 2003 godine. Ja ne mogunda vam opisem kako je to dobro i kvalitetno auto. Ja sam imao predrasude i bio mi je ružan. Ali sad kako ga imam 4 godine ja sam se zaljubio u ovu A klasu. Auto trosi 5 litara goriva na 100 km. Auto nema problema i svaki dio na njemu, svaka sitnica je savrsena. Do sada sam presao oko 80.000 km i nisam imao ni jedan veci problem. Promijenio sam set kvačila i kočnice, dva amortizera i jedan stabilizator. to je sve za 4 godine. Naravno radim mali servis na svakih 8.000 km.
