"You should also read the handbook for your vehicle..." It was 560 pages, plus a DVD. I bought a 2001 S430 new in Feb 2001. Adored this car...i can say without exaggeration that both my head and heart literally swam every time I got behind the wheel. What I didn't love was the $70,800 window sticker price (non-negotiable / "no-haggling"). The S500 was $10,000 more, for just 27 additional horsepower, which bought you a 0-60 mph time of 6.0 secs. vs 6.9 secs. for the S430.

It's crazy to think that this vehicle came out 20 years ago! And yet it has features most new cars today do not even have. 20 years ago this was telling you that you're getting too close to the car in front too quickly. Basically it already had a collision warning system. Amazing.
If only they made modern retrofits for current times like a phone module that actually has a Bluetooth module inside for Bluetooth calls and audio streaming but that still looks like the old phone in there. And updated maps on a new CD.

This car had too much technology Mercedes hadn't perfected yet. The W126 was perhaps the best Mercedes ever, and possibly the best automobile. The quality was impeccable and the driving experience sublime. They managed to make a huge car feel remarkably limber through artful engineering and balance, not with too many gizmos that interfered with the purity of the driving experience.

And your losing customers hand over fist to Lexus. And the boot doesn’t close which is annoying but the doors don’t stay closed so when it rains the doors open a crack and the car fills up with water. I owned a new W220 between 2001 and 2005. it was a comfortable and very capable machine, but developed rust in the first 18 months and spent months off the road at the time due to a combination of factory parts delays and technician unfamiliarity.
