    In one of my films, I tried doing a match cut between a drawing in two different locations, one in a bedroom and one in a dining room. The only problem was I didn't think about it and thought I could just eyeball it with the gridlines in the monitor...obviously, I couldn't lmao. I think the plastic was a great tip. Luckily I had a backup in mind just in case it didn't work.

      I've noticed a lot of match cuts from films in the past aren't perfect. A lot of time it's more of matching the motion, and the actual image comes second. Did yours just not line up at all then?

    loved the sound design part specifically - a tutorial on your adobe audition workflow for films would be sooo helpful!

    I love how it works in 60 seconds because of the sound reinforcement. But oddly, I've never really been impressed with the super famous one from 2001, I've always found it quite a jarring cut, not sure if it's the change of movement, as the bones spinning while the satalite isn't, or the lack of sound reinforcement, or both?

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  3 года назад +1

      No you are completely right! I find it jarring as well. The cut stops the motion in a single frame, rather than the spaceship spinning and slowing down. But the jarring might be what catches people's eye. Sometimes a bit of jank can wake up the audience haha

    This is very cool! I would really like to see more audio post production techniques for a short film or a full feature film. How to mix dialog with music and sound design, how to use an EQ on voice to make it sound good. And even how to export for different distributions. A lot is focused on video and LUTs and how to get the "film look" and I guess less on audio and how to get that "film sound". Haha! Thanks guys!

    I believe small hd has a feature on some of their monitors to overlay any previously taken shot over your live feed. This essentially achieves the same thing just on a higher budget. Love the tutorial!

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  3 года назад +1

      Onion skinning! I wish more monitors had this feature. Might have to get a new monitor!

      @@TheFilmLook yeah! I think they advertise it as an easy way to have the same person in two different spots in the frame but I don’t see why it wouldn’t be useful for match cuts too!

  • @rossprohaska6263

    When trying a match cut and overlaying I actually turn the opacity down between frames also to better match and the just turn it back up when laying frames over each other.

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  3 года назад

      Aye that's a great way! Especially if you want to get it pixel perfect.

  • @versatile1684

    Sound design really uplifted the match cut.Without it the cut was looking like a standard cut

    What camera and Lens was used to Film the movie

  • @Ranger7Studios
    @Ranger7Studios 3 года назад +1

    An easier way of doing this is to use the grid lines on your camera to match the shots. In post, put one shot on top of the other and lower one's opacity and then scale accordingly to match the shots. This is an easier trick then making a template for your monitor.

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  3 года назад

      Aye that's a good way! I guess it depends on how complex the shape you are match cutting.
