I froze the frame: Gene/Jimmy/Saul was reading 'The Moon's a Balloon', the memoir of Brit actor David Niven. It was published in 1972, and was a best-seller. He might've picked it up at a bookstore at the mall.
Awesome vid Em! Like others have already said...chuck had the tape player in the ON position so when the batteries went in, it automatically started to play.
The significance of "The Adventures of Mabel" are partially reflected in allusions to the sinking of the Titanic. According to one article, the novel's author used editorial control at a publication he ran to write a deeply positive review for his own book, (which was published under a pseudonym) without disclosing conflict of interest. Though his affairs were apparently seen as more scandalous, the disgrace of which would lead - apparently - to his decision to shoot himself to death, two years after Jimmy's copy was printed. AKA two years after the sinking of the Titanic. I think this "going down with the ship" reference was a sly, almost disconnected way to clue people in to the fact that the book itself is more of an ominous sign, than the comforting one Jimmy takes it as. Also Jimmy _was_ taken down by the iceberg that was Heisenberg blue, after boarding the "unsinkable ship" that was Walt and Jesse's enterprise.
Love the review, and totally agree with the pacing with the show, it's a slow burn but it leads to fire, so rewarding. Excited for the return (or introduction) to Gus!
Oh yeah, Em, I forgot to mention - you said that when Ernesto put the batteries in, that the recorder "came on accidentally," and seemed pretty sure good 'ol Chuck was serious about telling him to keep his mouth shut. I don't know if you're old enough to remember how tape recorders work, but that was a con worthy of Jimmy McGill. (This episode might as well have been called "Battery" considering how unusually often those were used to trick people in it.) Chuck tells Ernesto to get batteries. While he's gone he moves the recording to a damning part of the tape (or already did). Then he puts dead batteries inside, and hits play on the recorder, which will remain stuck down (as they always did on cassette recorders - he can also press it while pretending to change the batteries, if necessary) that way, when he steps away, and Ernesto puts the batteries in the recorder it _automatically_ plays the damning portion of the tape for Ernesto to hear; and Chuck can swoop in, and act like the good, protective, brother. This ruse is visually confirmed by a smirk on Chuck's face when Ernesto walks away. Presumably he thinks Ernesto will tell everyone at work, which will spread through the legal community, effectively clearing Chuck's good name, while smearing Jimmy's. Which will lead to him opening a "McPractice." see, since they can't use the evidence to get Jimmy disbarred, ruining his new reputation is the next best thing.
Hey does anyone know if the music during the final segment when Mike got in his car to follow the guy was original score or an existing song? either way it's masterful music to set the mood for the moment
It the question is not about what it will serve. But it's about how Mike and Gus began working with one another. I waited a week to respond because, as I figured episode 3 of Better Call Saul will reveal Mike and Gus finally meeting, which was the point of my prediction.
C,mom of course chuck wants Ernesto to tell Saul about the tape,,,chuck is banking on it,,I think chuck hopes Saul goes to his house to get the tape then gets him jailed for house breaking,,,,well that's my guess anyway
No, she said not in her previous video. Because she wasn't feeling it, but that the disinterest was related more to personal issues, and feelings of anxiety, rather than anything The Walking Dead did specifically. "It's not the show it's me" Although I think many fans could agree that if she *did* have a wellspring of apathy or antagonism toward The Walking Dead... it wouldn't be unjustified.
my brother and i said hte same thing. mike is fascinating and his scenes have all but no dialogue. mike is awesome and im dying to see what happens next. sauls storyline w/ kim on the other hand, quite dull at this point. im kind of only interested in mike now haha.
Hello beauty once again! xD I've missed your reviews. I think it was a good premiere, especially the Mike part. This series is so good. By the way, you should watch LEGION, i think you will like it. It's also a smart series with very good cinematography. August this year HANNIBAL will be free to possibliy jump to a different channel, maybe we'll get season 4 next year?

Brilliant! Breaking Bad micro-connection: Walt Whitman also wrote positive reviews of his writings, though W.W. was shameless.

Love it. BCS is so refreshing! Looking forward to season 3, as well as your reviews. First episode, so far so good!
Such a great first episode, so understated and subtle. Your reviews are awesome!

futurestoryteller I think most everyone knows how a tape recorder works
I am more than a little sure you would be wrong.
Delightful to watch you again. It's been so long since I last did (I used to watch your GoT reviews)
Looking forward to your other reviews as well :)
You're so good with words
So great to see your reviews of this show. You are awesome!
happy that your reviewing better call saul again. cant wait for gus fring
did the kids say asshole? I thought one of the cops did
MacX1985 It was the Mall Security guy who called Saul an asshole. I was rewinding it a couple of times myself cuz I too was curious.
Wonderful job as always!
Mike steals this show for me and as BB fan can’t wait to see Gus again and the birth of Saul of course
85mjj There's entirely too much to look forward to. This show has a serious hold on me and I wouldn't have it any other way!
Hey does anyone know if the music during the final segment when Mike got in his car to follow the guy was original score or an existing song? either way it's masterful music to set the mood for the moment
I predict that Gus (or his people) planted the note on Mike car with the intention of Mike discovering Gus.
Apetebi Iyamile what purpose would that serve? They did business with Hector et. al. and didn't want him dead.
It the question is not about what it will serve. But it's about how Mike and Gus began working with one another. I waited a week to respond because, as I figured episode 3 of Better Call Saul will reveal Mike and Gus finally meeting, which was the point of my prediction.
thx for the reminder that season 3 has started. i'm in, getting back as soon as i will have had time to watch the episode!
It is the cop on the left, not the boy, who says "Asshole." I also thought it was the boy on first watch.
oops I see that's already been said!
Wow really good review
C,mom of course chuck wants Ernesto to tell Saul about the tape,,,chuck is banking on it,,I think chuck hopes Saul goes to his house to get the tape then gets him jailed for house breaking,,,,well that's my guess anyway
Are you going to do a review of the walking dead season 7 finale?
No, she said not in her previous video. Because she wasn't feeling it, but that the disinterest was related more to personal issues, and feelings of anxiety, rather than anything The Walking Dead did specifically. Benny Palma we don't get much sun up here. But summer is coming.
Your makeup is too much, IMO.
IMO, she has a great look. Suits her smart, clear speaking style.
Could you post a photo of yours so we can compare? I agree with Citroen2cv.
It's just her fashion sense.
To each their own. Besides, you're a man, are you not?
