Hi! Hopefully this video will help you guys understand why it's been tough for me to expand and diversify my content over the past few months. Definitely look for my continued coverage of Bates Motel and Better Call Saul - as well as Legion, American Gods, Twin Peaks, and Game of Thrones, among several other series I'm slowly working on as we speak. I didn't really get into the specifics of my life story, but if any of the feelings and struggles I've shared in this video seem familiar or are even impeding your ability to function and enjoy life, know that you're not alone. Speaking from personal experience: the worst thing you can do to yourself is make a cocoon out of your guilt, shame, and anger. Treat yourself with patience and respect. Embrace your unique abilities. Embrace change when necessary. Listen to your gut instincts. Most importantly of all, seek and accept help often. (I'm saying this to me too, as a person who is both fiercely independent and deeply anxious.) Please, please, please don't deny yourself joy. When you feel guilty that you haven't accomplished what you thought you would, show yourself the same grace you would extend to others in their failings. You're just as important - and just as capable of kicking ass. I promise. Anyways. Love you all. Thanks for listening. xo
I know how you just talked about not having time to do more stuff...BUT one thing that helps my anxiety and depression is watching HBO's The Leftovers. It doesn't make me happy but it's as sad as I can feel and it makes me feel better for that fact? idk if that makes sense. Point is! Sad tv makes me feel better when I'm stressed/sad. Also sad tv helps me when I'm happy...idk! But its a good show to watch to help deal with feelings. Even if you didnt review it, I'd highly recommend it!
Hope you're doing alright, I know how stressful and intense life can be at times, but I guess you just have to jump through the hoops and keep trying to make things a little better. You make hundreds and thousands of people happy on a weekly basis, and your content probably provides a few of those an escape from the problems they're dealing with too. Keep up the great work, and hopefully things get better soon!
I've struggled with severe, crippling depression most of my life, with occasional severe anxiety bouts, so I know what it's like. There were many times I couldn't get out of bed, and quite a few suicide attempts and Inpatient Psych hospitalizations several years ago before I got things figured out. Meds never worked for me, but just working it out (via Inpatient Psych, CBT and regular therapy) and getting back to work did. It took until I was around 30 before I finally started getting things lined up and life began to function correctly. I had a good understanding of the rest of it, but the depression stopped so much in its tracks. I lost so much time. Anyway you're not alone, and do know that as you get older, things will fall into place and you'll hopefully be able to figure out how to live with this in a workable way like I did.
You're not alone, we all have our own struggles. So happy you still review Bates Motel. I always look forward to your review after the show. It's the perfect companion!
You are awesome. Thank you for being so open and honest. I'm deeply moved. Honesty is in such short supply these days. I look forward to your next contribution.
"If you're anything like me, you sit down and you're like: 'Here's 20 things I wanna do.' I don't end up making head way with any of them because I am sitting here thinking about the whole, and not the practical little steps that I can take to make those things actually come to fruition." I relate to this on a deeply personal level. I just discovered your videos recently because I binge watched Bates Motel not too long ago and just caught up a couple of episodes ago with the current season. I know I'm a new viewer, but I've enjoyed your reviews so much and look forward to following along with your future content. I hope you get back to the place you need to be and feel better. I certainly know the feeling because I am going through the same thing a little bit myself. But you'll see, we'll get through it. Sending positive thoughts your way!
I didn't expect it, honestly! It welled up in me out of nowhere. I'm not exactly one of those RUclipsrs who cries for the camera. (Aside from getting misty-eyed over intense television episodes. The proof's on video, haha.)
Concentrate on doing things that make you happy Sofia. Us subscribers will all be here when you release a new video so take your time and do what's right for you :)
Hello Emily. I understand completely what you are saying about being unable to compartmentalize your schedule. Things can be difficult when you have a paid job that you love and a Vocation like this where you are giving so much back to the fans of the shows you watch. But don't worry we are always happy to hear how you are doing and what you're working on. In terms of writing what you want and getting stuck, that can be a bit of a drag also. Keep up the good work and all the best.
I totally know where you're coming from. I'm a senior in college right now and I've been feeling so overwhelmed with my future considering I'm majoring in Religious Studies/Theology and minoring in Philosophy. And though I love these subjects, the amount of job opportunities aren't exactly plentiful. There's also the million dollar question about what I even want to do with my life and who I want to become as a person since I feel called to do a few different things. So yeah, I've been feeling a lot of emotional turmoil lately. But lately I've been starting to get past my anxiety and depression about the future considering that I've reaffirmed by spiritual core from watching a certain show. It's the most recent show that's appeared on Netflix called 13 Reasons Why. You've probably heard about it by now, but it's really good and made me think about why empathy is important. Regardless of what I end up doing with my life, it will involve my ability to express empathy towards those who have suffered the same or similar mental illnesses that I've undergone throughout my life. Either way, hang in there! Be positive and keep moving forward as you navigate the craziness of life.
Your personality is one of my favorites here on RUclips and it was really hard to see you sad. Artistic minded people always seem to have it rougher then others. We will be patient with you and I hope you will be patient with yourself! Much love!
No worries, Sofia. There are things I always want to get around to myself but life (work, school, family, etc) often gets in the way. It's so frustrating. That being said, take your time putting out content, work at your own pace. Don't feel like you're upsetting anyone. Your true fans will understand. I've been subscribed since your Dexter reviews and I don't intend to leave.
I never really comment on RUclips videos and I don't know you personally, but hey, you're not alone. I've been there. Life gets in the way, but the content you've put online has clearly struck a chord with a whole lot of people in some way, myself included, and that's more than many can say they've done. Whatever it is you need to do to be happy, go for it. If that means less content, that's not the worst thing in the world. Just don't start slippin' like Jimmy McGill :p
It's sad to hear that you're not happy. I've been following your channel for a while now and one of the things that drew me to you is how happy and upbeat you were. I don't know your situation but if you have to choose between money and happiness you should go with happiness! You don't have children so you should focus on your happiness. Anyway I was one of the people saying that I wanted less scripted videos but I appreciate all your content so keep up the good work but most important be happy!
I'm so happy you're enjoying them!! I've been having a blast reviewing this season. I feel badly that I haven't had the chance to reach the rest of my audience, but thankfully the arrival of Better Call Saul will change that. Starting tomorrow I'll not only be covering Norman's dramatic descent but Saul Goodman's as well. :) Anyways, here's to even more gut-wrenching goodness in BM!
I finished Breaking Bad a few months back and haven't gotten the chance to watch Better Call Saul yet, but it's on my watch list. Once I watch that I can start watching your reviews for that too
Hooray! It's a phenomenal show on every level. Easily on par with its predecessor. You'll get into it right off the bat, trust me. It enriches the universe of Breaking Bad in unexpected and powerful ways.
I can't wait for Twin Peaks to air. I binge watched the series a year ago and it was amazing. I can't imagine the excitement the fans who've been waiting 25 years must have.
Right!? Nor can I! I'd long heard whispers of the show's brilliance, but only just experienced it for myself a few months ago. I will definitely pick up the Showtime subscription I dropped at Dexter's end in order to revisit that small-town madness (with the dream team of Frost and Lynch back at the helm, thank God).
"The passion of what you feel or do only swells with each passing you let it go by. To an extent, you sound like you want to do it. To a degree, you might feel a reluctance. In the end, sit and dwell on what could be until you want it.
I appreciate your honesty and voice. I watch your reviews more for unique voice on shows that I also watch. So do what you gotta to create what you want to create.
I had a depressive time in my life and it sucks BIG TIME! So, I'll just tell you that I enjoy your videos and that they are very well put together, but I'll wait for them if time is what you need. :)
Hi Emily, so i'm sorry that you are going through a tough point in your life right now. A lot of people can probably relate to that point, when you look at your life and you say i am not happy. I know i can. And i know it sounds obvious, and a lot of people have told you this probably but darn it hold on lady! It will get better. I honestly wish life was awesome for everyone all the time. But fact is it isn't. And going through dark times makes you appreciate the good times even more. Again i can relate, and its the truth. My life is a roller coaster as well. Now its fine, but there are times where i want to jump of a building. I won't, because i know its temporary and it will be for you as well. Also good for you that you are admitting it and that you are not putting it away and ignoring it. That can make it a lot worse. Listen to yourself, and put your social and private life first. The people that follow you, that can actually think like normal human beings and aren't trolls will understand. And those are the people you want to follow you in the first place. Screw the trolls. Also about you scripted reviews. I am more of a fan of your off the cuff reviews, but if scripted is the way that works best for you then thats ok. And on The Walking Dead. I get that as well. I am also heavy doubting if i should continue the show or not. Because its really starting to bore me. But i watch every episode with my younger brother so i will probably end up watching the show still because i love doing that. But anyways, its good that you have things planned. I hope you get to it. I've said before that i really like the twitch idea, so that you can actually interact live with your community. But if you end up not getting to it, that is fine as well. Focus on being happy first. The rest comes later. The best of luck to you Emily Sofia. You got this!
You haven't seemed happy for a while. I don't know about the rest of your life but at least work-wise I was in a similar situation. I worked at the same place for about 7 years, most of my adult life. I was promoted several times until I ended up with a well-paying corporate job. It was good at first, especially the money lol, but the stress and corporate life in general started eating away at my happiness until I eventually stopped caring and was fired. My artistic passion is graphic design, it's what I've always wanted to do. That job paid better than the average graphic design grad so I told myself I could maybe start practicing that on the side after work. The only problem was that I didn't feel like doing anything after work and the graphic design never went anywhere. I wasn't able to give graphic design my full attention as I should have. I'd noticed people were starting to make good money on Twitch and, luckily, before I was fired I built my dream PC to get into streaming. That was back in September last year, I haven't worked since then and even though money is tight I'm so much happier now. It took me a while but the past month I've been consistently streaming on Twitch and I have 14 followers now lol I designed all my graphics and graphics for friend's channels and that's been scratching the graphic design itch. I've even been inspired to buy a good camera once I start working again to start a RUclips show going to and reviewing different bars/diners/etc around the Portland area. So now I have the graphic design, Twitch, and hopefully soon, the RUclips project getting my creative juices flowing more than ever before and it feels great! I'm lucky enough to have relatively few bills, just cheap rent, car payment, insurance, and various internet services which I can probably afford to pay by making a little more than minimum wage. I live with my parents and they're pretty lenient with charging me for food lol My main focus in life now will be my creative aspirations, any job I work at will only be to support that. If you start streaming on Twitch you already have a decent sized following who will support you there. If you engage with your audience as you play you're likely to get donations which would help. At the time of writing this comment you have 11,256 subscribers here on RUclips. That is no small feat. From the people I follow, it seems like >100k subs is when you can comfortably make content creation your full-time job. That might seem daunting but your channel's kept growing even though you don't upload as many videos as you used to. I'm confident that if you were to consistently upload reviews for multiple shows, movies, and video games, your subscriber count would grow exponentially. DO NOT GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS. DON'T LET YOUR JOB KILL YOUR CREATIVITY.
We love your positive attitude and great video content but first and foremost, find your happiness and be happy within yourself. We support you and your decisions and will be here for you when you're ready. ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
I'm sorry you're going through an emotional time. I wish I could remove all the pain and suffering in the world. It makes me sad when I think about all the animals and people that are in pain. I hope you find your happiness.
I'm going through a hard time right now as well so I get what you're coming from I think Patreon is a great idea but as of right now I couldn't contribute (That would change immediately with me having regular income) In the meantime I'm going to keep watching this channel because it's unique and calming and entertaining =) Stay strong Em Lots of virtual hugs
Please don't worry if you're unable to offer financial assistance for my forthcoming endeavors! All I can ask for, at the end of the day, is a faithful and supportive viewership. You're clearly an integral part of that. ^__^ I value and appreciate you and your continued investment in what I do.
keep your head up girl every time you make a video it always puts a smile on my face you know I often remember my dreams I have a vlog series on my channel were I talk about them your the the best!!
Dreams huh? Have you ever tried training yourself to Lucid dreaming? I used to do that as a kid, naturally without training but I lost the ability. Being able to do anything in your dreams is a pretty incredible experience. I hope everything goes well for you. Self-care is very important. I've been there.
I know I'm knew to your channel so it probably won't mean much but I really hope you feel better. Also I love your bates motel reviews just as much as I love the actual show and cannot wait to hear your opinions on the new episode tonight.
Hey EmmightySofia, All i can say is, do your thing and let us know what's up. We'll be here for you in whatever you choose to do. I'm a fulltimer too, and it's super tough to find time for anything else, so keep ya head up girl.
Understandable! I could easily see myself putting in 40+ hours a week on producing reviews. Not to mention I've got my eye on gaming and podcasting, too. I may ease out of my full-time position and pick up part-time work to supplement whatever income I start receiving through Patreon. We'll see what needs to happen. I fully recognize that I may get off to a janky start. ;)
I'm sorry that you've been going through such a stressful time. Take the time that you need and only worry about bringing us the things you feel the passion to bring. Know that you're awesome and have a great day!
I wish I could reach through this screen and hug you. But that would probably make me less of a grateful content creator and more of a horror movie villain.
I watched it!!! Absolutely loved it. Insanely good. I'm going to do a special season review soon. That's another one I've gotta find the time to script, though. ;)
Hope you are doing ok. You sound a bit stressed, but it is good to see your videos again btw, i quit watching the walking dead after the 5th season, it just got too boring and the story line got worse.
I only wrote ideas if I annoyed by the movie or episode scenes. If not, I'm just entered the film world & did screening reviewing just end up with a score; sometimes an odd number like 7.26/10 even a lots of digits like: 5.017/10. Cause a bad show tended to annoyed me & an 8 just enough score without reviewing it at all.
Tales From the Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us have been my absolute favorites! Brilliant storytelling, likable characters, and evocative atmospheres.
I totally agree! Although, I prefer the TWD games over The Wolf Among Us. I actually hear they might be working on a second season for that game. The Wolf Among Us I mean.
I would die of happiness! Love me that fairy tale neo-noir. I haven't played the latest TWD season or Michonne spin-off due to lack of time. I hope they've been enjoyable!
Nice use of rhyme in the title, Ems. Just sayin. :) It seems to me that the stresses of your full-time employment (among other things, of course) seem to be the main source of whatever emotional/psychological/spiritual? turmoil your currently undergoing. I mean, you were CRYING. I don't think I've EVER seen you cry. I don't like seeing you cry...:( Perhaps you SHOULD gently ease out of the corporate world and into content creation, little by little. You seem to harbor a profound desire and passion for it, so why not start now? I'm sure I and many others will appreciate it, as we already have in the past and WILL continue to in the future. And don't feel too overwhelmed to create anything for your fans! If you need to take a break, TAKE A GOSHDARN BREAK, LOL! Your fans ain't goin anywhere. Anyway, that's all I have to write. Hang in there, alright? Feel better!!! AND GOD BLESS!
you are a babe :D you can do anything you want! your personality is way way better and much more sincere than the majority of RUclips content creators. regarding twd, the latter half of the latest season pales massively in comparison to bates motel's season 5. until it gets it's shit together, it dosn't deserve the honour of getting reviewed by you 😄 40 hours a week is hardcore by the way, you are using alot of vital energy in a creative writing job like that so I understand the burnout. anyway, if you made patreon, that would finally give me a reason to sign up 😁 good luck Emily!
I was going say how I don't blame you for giving up TWD with how slow it's been, but that's obviously not the point, this some heavy stuff you're letting out, and it's pretty big of you to do so. Sadly, there are no easy answers. Just hope you figure out a good solution that leads to your happiness. I'm going to go ahead and follow you on Twitter,. What kind of gaming are you into?
I can attest that the corporate world does have a knack for sucking the soul out of its victims. Your bravery/foolishness to to consider content creation full time is admirable. That gum you like is going to come back in style!
Oh yes. Even considering full-time content production is a high-risk move. It's a saturated market, and rising through the ranks to grow an audience that will creatively and/or monetarily support you is never guaranteed. If I'm learning anything from you guys, though, it's that maybe I can finally do this crazy thing. I'm weary of playing it safe. I see what I want more clearly than ever before.
Are you sure that's the job for you? perhaps you need to learn to approach the job differently, or maybe go back to the old position...but something needs to change. hope you're able to solve what is somewhat ofca dillema.
The comment section here is one of few where people actually type in English. how amzng iz dat boi!!! abslt amazeballs 420 blaze it!!! nah lmao lol jk rofl
God Dammit......stop with the Walking Dead.....focus on Legion, Fargo, American Gods, Preacher..........the Walking Dead is gonna milk it as long as they can
Yes, I'm looking to delve headlong into all the above. (Preacher's super underrated, too. Hoping the second season will catapult it to greater fame!) I am concerned that TWD doesn't have a foreseeable expiration date. It's disconcerting at best, seeing as they've already struggled to sustain momentum throughout the past few seasons. Definitely makes it harder to want to return, whereas other shows have way clearer visions and endgames before them. Not to mention American Gods is going to blow contemporary TV fare outta the water, I can already tell.
Hi! Hopefully this video will help you guys understand why it's been tough for me to expand and diversify my content over the past few months. Miss your reviews

Been with you from the early Dexter days, hang in there your so young and we will all be here for you. So much to look forward to, we love you!
Yes, I totally recognize your username! Love you back. :)
I'm going through a hard time right now as well so I get what you're coming from
I think Patreon is a great idea but as of right now I couldn't contribute (That would change immediately with me having regular income)
In the meantime I'm going to keep watching this channel because it's unique and calming and entertaining =)
Stay strong Em
Lots of virtual hugs
Also I love your bates motel reviews just as much as I love the actual show and cannot wait to hear your opinions on the new episode tonight.
rewatched the first two seasons of Dexter last weekend, woke up lots of deeply burried memories.
love your honesty..just keep doing you..love your content watched you since the dexter reviews..added your twitter now aswell 👍
Life is hard Emily. It's not your fault. Just hang in there and do your best. Lots of love for you hun.
Always enjoy your chats. You should never feel pressured to product X amount of online content especially if with the additional pressures of a job.
luv ya em ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Do what makes YOU happy. Most of your subs are here for ya!
Hey EmmightySofia,
All i can say is, do your thing and let us know what's up.
I fully recognize that I may get off to a janky start. ;)
You rock Emily, I'm confident that you'll be successful.
EmmightySofia Hahaha! That's be seriously cool though! Like Nick Fury would kick down my door to recruit you for the Avengers! You're the best.
Keep you chin up, you are brilliant and funny and you will work all this shit out. Take it easy!
I hope you are doing better 🙏🏾
Absolutely love all your vids! Keep up the awesome work! 👍😊
14:08 i already have a twitter but you have convinced me to do another one just so we can talk more
Legion.....Legion.....Legion......you will love the show!
I watched it!!! Absolutely loved it. Insanely good. I'm going to do a special season review soon. That's another one I've gotta find the time to script, though. ;)
Just gotta say, you are super pretty! Love your makeup & hair!
Aw, thank you! I took a break from wearing makeup for a wee bit and I've come back with a vengeance. Such is the way I live. ^__^
Love you and I hope you feel better soon :) Did I mention I love your hair? :)
Give us that Pateron and we'll give you money :)
Also looking forward to BCS review!
Hope you are doing ok. You sound a bit stressed, but it is good to see your videos again
btw, i quit watching the walking dead after the 5th season, it just got too boring and the story line got worse.
You are young, beautiful, and intelligent, so just know that and try to keep it all in the right perspective, and you should be fine.
I would be happy to converse with you through Twitter or email.
Work can be very draining. Are you watching The Leftovers, Outcast, or Fargo?
Emily, have you played any Telltale games? If so, wich do you like like best?
Tales From the Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us have been my absolute favorites! Brilliant storytelling, likable characters, and evocative atmospheres.
I totally agree! Although, I prefer the TWD games over The Wolf Among Us. I actually hear they might be working on a second season for that game. The Wolf Among Us I mean.
I would die of happiness! Love me that fairy tale neo-noir. I haven't played the latest TWD season or Michonne spin-off due to lack of time. I hope they've been enjoyable!
Nice use of rhyme in the title, Ems. Just sayin. :)
It seems to me that the stresses of your full-time employment (among other things, of course) seem to be the main source of whatever emotional/psychological/spiritual? turmoil your currently undergoing. I mean, you were CRYING. I don't think I've EVER seen you cry. I don't like seeing you cry...:(
Perhaps you SHOULD gently ease out of the corporate world and into content creation, little by little.
I feel ya emily, stay strong girl :)
Keep your chin up Princess, it's all ebbs and flows, you'll get there.
Thank you, Robert. I'm hopin' so.
you are a babe :D you can do anything you want! your personality is way way better and much more sincere than the majority of RUclips content creators. regarding twd, the latter half of the latest season pales massively in comparison to bates motel's season 5. until it gets it's shit together, it dosn't deserve the honour of getting reviewed by you 😄 40 hours a week is hardcore by the way, you are using alot of vital energy in a creative writing job like that so I understand the burnout. anyway, if you made patreon, that would finally give me a reason to sign up 😁 good luck Emily!
Hang in there, girl
I can attest that the corporate world does have a knack for sucking the soul out of its victims. Your bravery/foolishness to to consider content creation full time is admirable. That gum you like is going to come back in style!
Oh yes. Even considering full-time content production is a high-risk move. It's a saturated market, and rising through the ranks to grow an audience that will creatively and/or monetarily support you is never guaranteed. If I'm learning anything from you guys, though, it's that maybe I can finally do this crazy thing. I'm weary of playing it safe. I see what I want more clearly than ever before.
Pursue your dreams!!!! Also I will continue to patiently wait for your twitch streams to begin, no rush :)
I miss you...
Nice Video :)
Damn corporate leeches! Always putting us into soul crushing jobs! I work at Amazon... It sucks...
HumanRights4Everyone not always. I love my job, just it's long hours. But I've heard that at Amazon :( you in Seattle? I'm in Portland.
Yeah, I'm in Seattle
well Em how can i help you do this because i never watch twitch but for my Em id be your first sub on twitch
I do currently have a Twitch account! My handle is EmmightySofia there, too. Just haven't really done anything with it yet. ;)
then i guess id better sign up
virtual hug?
I wanted to send a DM on Twitter but I can't because you don't follow me. Thanks for your open dialogue in this time of your life.
that feeling when you're too talented
hello emily. I hope your doing well. I have not received a dm or an email. I am waiting for your response :)
Are you sure that's the job for you? perhaps you need to learn to approach the job differently, or maybe go back to the old position...but something needs to change. hope you're able to solve what is somewhat ofca dillema.
well Em my time is worthless so you can waist it like crazy
The comment section here is one of few where people actually type in English. how amzng iz dat boi!!! abslt amazeballs 420 blaze it!!! nah lmao lol jk rofl
stay positive! you're healthy & beautiful! i'd marry you if I knew you in person. :)
2 mins from doing porn
That's a very nice thing to say
Emily Bates hehe
Wow
