Man i am so sad that Bates Motel is ending soon....the show keeps getting better and better! At this point, its bringing back my good old Dexter feels!
The way this show has taken this story is amazing! The Norman and Mother dynamic is so interesting and entertaining. I'm so excited to see where they go now. I always thought that when Marion showed up, the famous 'shower' scene would take place as it did in the classic movie. But this show has turned that on its head in a fantastic way. Now with Dylan and Emma possibly coming back, Romero coming too. This is going to be very interesting going forward.
Marius Møller I think it will probably end similarly to the classic movie, I do see Dylan and Emma being the ones to catch Norman. Dylan filling the roll of Sam from the movie.
Tremendous episode and one of the best Bates has had I thought. The twist was so unexpected and makes you wonder what other twists are around the corner in the last few episodes. It doesn't all have to play out the way it did in Psycho. Anything is possible! I completely agree that Freddie simply has to win something for his performances as Norman. I think the show is deserving of recognition. Still feel it's underrated. Also can I just say this was another fantastic review. These videos are my go to whenever I finish an episode and you're doing a great job.
i thought the car smashing helped, with her next scene with Norman. it established further from her stealing the money that shes kinda crazy like norman too. Its a good thing they did that. That aspect of her vulnerability is probably what took away from her performance in the last episode and the beginning of this episode if anything.
I loved the episode... I just miss the line "We all go a little mad sometimes" from Norman, but I think it will probably still be used in the show some point soon.
So far I have two theories as to how all of this will play out to mirror Psycho. Before I go further, note that so far there has been no mention of the character Milton Arborgast (the detective from the film) in the show in terms of casting. It's likely he won't be a character. With that in mind... Theory #1 Dylan arrives at the Bates Motel to confront Norman and to try to convince him to leave leave and come stay with them. The two fight and Norman pushes Dylan down the stairs. Killing him. Most likely by accident. This would be the role Arborgast WOULD have played. Emma arrives at White Pines to investigate and comes across Madeline. When they both realize that each one has a loved one missing and they both have Norman in common, the go to the motel to investigate. There, they find the body of Norma is discovered in the freezer. At that instant, Norman attacks and corners the two ladies. But just as he's about to make his move, Romero shows up and subdues Norman. Doing this, Romero is seen as a hero and ultimate released from prison. Norman's psychiatrist gives the explanation behind Norman's condition to the police in the final episode with Norman in custody. Theory #2 Romero arrives at the motel to seek his revenge on Norman. He heads up the stairs just as Norman (dressed as Norma) comes racing out, stabs him to death, and falls down the stairs. Madeline arrives at the motel to look for Sam, enters the house, and finds Norma. Right then, Norman, dressed as Norma, attacks. But just before he can kill her, Dylan steps into the picture to save her. Meanwhile, Emma is safe at home taking care of the baby. Which theory do you think is more likely? Or either of them for that matter.
I made a connection between Eliot & Mr. Robot with Norman and Mother. The scene of Norman and Mother engaging dialogue, reminded me of when Eliot was coming to terms with the fact that Mr. Robot is the aspect of him that will get things done to which Eliot is unable to do.
Well, this twist ending took me by surprise. I was expecting Marion to die like she did in the original novel and the previous two film adaptations. I must say, I like this better. Felt like a time travel movie moment, like Anthony Perkins' consciousness went back into his younger body to change the past and help Marion instead.
Major twisted plot as they play the old movie for us and then backhand us before the popcorn spill moment! Loved it. As always excellent review and analysis.
Awesome review! This was a masterfully, well done episode. So, amazing! My mind was blown with with the plot twist of Marion escaping free. Emmy's for all truly! The hug between Marion and Norman had me tearing up a bit, I can't even lie. They were just two lost souls trying to find their way, have the same love returned to them, that they have given to others time and time again. I agree with you also on how Marion wasn't so freaked out, and scared of Norman, they showed us that Marion is an empathetic person, that despite all of the pain she was feeling, she could still sense that Norman was also going through something as well. Just great writing and acting all around. Freddie, there are no words to describe how incredibly moving he is. Rihanna had me emotional tonight as well. You could really see the hurt, pain, and betrayal so well with her. She really did an amazing job. Really gonna miss this show! Great review!
Sarah Camarillo Agreed. Great acting here. Norman is really quite convincing the way he struggles to fight off his mother persona. Rihanna also did an excellent job
I was trying to disassociate Rihanna from her character. There was only really one time i couldnt help it, the scene where Rihanna tells Norman she stayed at the motel before. I thought she did a really good job.
"There are lots of functioning mad people in the world. Some are even heads of state." That moment you realize Bates Motel took a shot at Donald Trump XD
One question: how can Marion be in this story (a prequel), and run free, when she was in and killed in the original film? It's like they've re -written history.
Have you ever taught of Norman's transformation as a moral judge and executioner? He kills his father for beating his mom. He kills Emma's mother because maybe he thought she was gonna abandon Emma again. He kills Sam for the simple fact that he had an affair with Marion. (I'm sorry, it's just an idea. I'm stupid anyway because I can't read the symbolism on any movie and show. You have my respect, Sofia!)

Freddie Highmore's acting is perfection! this role is pretty much made for him!
Your videos teach me more vocabulary than English class

I was always waiting for norman to kill Dylan at some point in the earlier seasons.. What if the end to show is Dylan taking out Norman..
Marius Møller whoah, interesting thought!! Interesting. Wow...
Probably not though, I'm pretty sure the last shot of the show will be an homage to the ending of the movie. But would definitely be a cool twist

Excellent review....I agree that the acting is superb and should be recognized. As for the plot and writing, Hitchcock would be proud.
I loved the episode... I just miss the line

Your reviews keep getting better. This was so proficient that I feel 26 mins was not enough.
Thank you for bringing your insights to the discussion.

I was hoping he was going to get some booty first but, I liked the change
who was disappointed?
Notice the parallel in Mother's dish-throwing tantrum and Norman's in season 3's "Norma Louise".

Sarah Camarillo Agreed. Great acting here. Norman is really quite convincing the way he struggles to fight off his mother persona. Rihanna also did an excellent job
"Oh look, she's back :)"
Lmao Mother is so funny to me idky
what an episode!!!!!

MythicTyrant this was written well before he was inaugurated. Takes over a year from writing to airing.
Now I'm in love with Vera Farmiga, Madeleine and Rihanna. This is confusing.
One question: how can Marion be in this story (a prequel), and run free, when she was in and killed in the original film? It's like they've re

This is why Bates Motel is not a prequel of Psycho. Now we have proof. (even if I the plot twist was fine)
This is not related to Bates Motel but have you watched 13 Reasons Why on Netflix yet? And if you have do you plan to review?
Do you think Norman could die in this season?
Thurnis Haley hopefully not. I want to see the same ending as the movie... but seeing this change in plot from the movie who knows how this will end.
Same it makes watching the series that much more enjoyable when you don't see whats going to happen
hey em
Nice Video :)
Have you ever taught of Norman's transformation as a moral judge and executioner?
He kills his father for beating his mom.
He kills Emma's mother because maybe he thought she was gonna abandon Emma again.
He kills Sam for the simple fact that he had an affair with Marion.

Disney Just For You well yeah, that's what I always assumed with him.
lol i just finished watching the episode and i think i needed to watch this for support
damn you look like that girl in Napoleon Dynamite
*cough* eyebrows *cough*
