Thanks Phil very good I was a Godstone resident for 17 years did lots of exploring/ walks , Godstone mines , the sand caverns under the village garage & the Spitfire crash site with memorial bench just off A22 before south Godstone high street 👍
You asked for recommendations. I was in the Selsdon Boys Brigade. We camped in Oxted. I'm not sure exactly where, but think it was on a farm on Barrow Green Road /Gordons Way (all housing now). Just remember marching under the rail bridge to St Mary's Church1959 for Sunday service.
Another great video mate, well put together. So many memories of half my life in Warlingham with visits to Godstone, Woldingham, Caterham, etc, before moving to California. I think Dave Skinner's brother Don, was the landlord of The White Hart for a time in the late 1980's, he bought my old white Ford Consul 2.5 (cheap version of the Granada). Keep up the good work!!!
Mr and Mrs Ames as I recall, I was only there a couple of months it was a bugger to get to from Caterham on the hill. I moved to the Valley Hotel in early September 73.
Yes mate. Full disclosure - I filmed about it but didn’t like how it came out during editing so cut it. I’m very particular about what I put out there 😁 - perhaps a candidate for Part 2? 🏴☠️
@@philswallow Hi guys, the scull & cross bones on the headstone are often mistaken as a pirates grave. It is actually a victim of the black death or bubonic plague I believe.
Beautiful Autumnal walk. I haven't been to Godstone since the 1990's. It's still a beautiful place.
Nice to see the picket fence I built is still standing outside those beautiful cottages
Thank you Phil beautiful walk .
Thanks Tony!

I know I will be returning - the village area is rich in so many ways.

Another GREAT walk. My sincere thanks Phil. I have just returned from a UK holiday, most of Oct taken up with driving around 3,000 km.
Thanks Alan!
Interesting walk, I hadn’t realised how much there is to Godstone!
Me too, Jenni! I was very pleasantly surprised 😁

Addisons used to have a bakery in Godstone. Great video brings back many memories.
I fell in that pond when I was about 4. My mother always packed extra clothes if we were going anywhere with a pond as I predictably would fall in :)
😂😂😂
Great video phil, (Peter Clark) it's my daughters site i haven't changed my name my phone went up the creek
Its a shame alot of our local pubs are disappearing
I started my chefs career at Wonham house hotel June 1973
Was it “Barry” that used to run it?

Ah ok. I’m trying to source some old photos of Caterham Valley for a “Then & Now” video, let me know if you have some!
I’ll have a look in my photo albums
@ thanks!
there is a pirates grave in st nicks church, you can identify it by the skull and crossbones on the headstone..

Ah ok. I’ve read a few different things so will revisit my research, thanks!
