An interview with Mick Jones from The Clash, Joe Strummer remembrance night 22/12/2008.
Interviewed by JC Kamau youtube page, TUBESTATIONB3 Видеоклипы
Met Joe on the train a few times from the west country to London . He always remembered me after the first meet and went out his way to sit together. He was one of the nicest people you could ever meet . When he died I cried. I have tears in my eyes writing this
😢😢
I saw the Clash in 1978, and I joined their fan club as a Punk Rock teenager, and it cost me £1.50. When no merchandise came, I wrote a letter of complaint and said they either send me the gear or I want my money back. Some time after I received a letter written on a Piccadilly hotel (Manchester) letter - headed piece of paper, apologising for the delay, along with it came Clash patches & badges. The letter was written by Joe Strummer and signed by the rest of the band! RIP Joe
That’s so cool. Do you still have the letter? I would have kept it for sure.
I had similar thing with overpayment of a quid for the Jam , I didn't even know it, but got a cheque for £1 signed Paul Weller, unfortunately long lost due to constantly moving.
Great story. Thanks.
What a wonderful story, Thanks for sharing..
I can't remember the Clash having an (official) fan club...but they could be generous, Topper gave a friend a zip jacket for the long trip home...& they let another one & some of his skateboarding mates in for free after Strummer nearly got squashed against a fence in an Automatic car incident( described well in Joes Biography 'Redemption Song')
impossible not to love mick
Micks a wonderful man.I've read a few books on Joe and the Clash. With all the shit that went down i've never heard Mick say a bad word about Joe.Thats Class.
They didn't fall out for long, just got sick of constantly being in each others pocket, constantly rehearsing, touring, recording.
Should have took a holiday instead of falling apart but suppose its all part of their story n how they succumbed to every single thing they said they wouldn't. Makes them even more special to me that they fucked up at their most popular. Would have been Unbearable to think of them still around today having made no mistakes or every mistake and just be preaching like fckn Bono. I Love how The Clash falling to bits was the perfect way for them to end. Makes them even more Real for me 👍👏
I met mick once and he was so nice. Never met Joe but he truly was great. Miss him so much. And the Clash? One of the greatest bands ever.
Listen to magnificent seven every morning on the way to work, Clash are the best...
The undisputed...Magnificent four !
Mick is soo genuine! After all these years of fame he's never let it go to his head. True Gent and true musician! Legend!
He maybe let it go to his head a bit in the early 80s before he got the boot from The Clash. He's got wisdom and humility now. Nothing but 100% respect for him.
@sratus the 4 of them let EVERYTHING go to their heads. Is what it is. All part of what makes them brilliant.
What a nice bloke! Mick Jones yer my guitar hero! A living legend and one of the best rock guitarists ever. In my top five. Clash best band ever!!!
I should think it is hard for Mick that most people think Joe was the 'main man in the Clash' but really it was Micks group ..he's very generous & gracious in what he says..
Mick always a humble man . Total respect and he is so unassuming.
Really the 'Humility & unassuming nature' came after 'the Clash' years ( he has said he could be stubborn & difficult to work with ) He was really the classic 'Aloof Rock star' like Keith Richards or Johnny Thunders. Although it must be said he was usually very considerate to the groups fans...
Micks such a nice guy & an amazing guitarist/singer.. The Clash forever 🎸
Underrated, gifted musician: always invents beautiful melodies whether the Clash or Big Audio Dynamite. A gentleman, a good guy. Hopefully, see ya soon when B.A.D. tours again, Mick !
I met Mick outside the Waldorf Astoria 17 years ago. I turned into a gushing fan-boy and Mick was most understanding & kind. I was 43 years old.
As i read on it looks like we all have some major respect for Mick.Well deserved id say.Class act all the way. With all the crap that went down ive never heard Mick say a bad word about Joe.Thats very rare in this world and the world of rock and roll. That says alot about this very talented man that i have much admiration for.
Mick tells this with amazing calm and humility as though it is the first time he has spoken about this band , "The Clash".
Yeah, I've watched a million things about them n they Never big themselves up, they Fckn Know how great they were but seem to get more from what they mean to people and knowing their lyrics and values got across. They're impressive, humble, intelligent and sincere in every interview to this day. Its a way of life even now for them 👏
Love The Clash, love Mick Jones what a guy!!!!
Mick seems like a genuine, nice guy. I like that about him.
Joe is the real deal the most beautiful incredible sweetest humble friendly soul. Mick seems so genuine and kind all the people talk very nice about Joe.
Joe's surname was Mellor too, any realation 🤔
Love Mick's West London accent...speaks just like my old man.
Sing Michael sing, on the route of a 19 bus! The Clash imo are the best ever rock band, the were fkn fantastic and really made me what I am today, my brother played a song on his record player in 1978,i was a wee 10 year old boy, I didn't like it but when I got 14 years old I started listening, then I couldn't stop buying Clash records, the only band that matters!!!!
Like how he is not pretending to be Joe's friend, but more than a coworker that he really appreciate.
And thats positive we all have that guy at work we like, but dont see outside.
Good honnest interview
I remember watching Rude Boy and they made Mick out to be a real arsehole. I've seen a few interviews with him and he actually seems an all down to earth kinda nice guy. Great video, thanks for the upload!
I met him yesterday and he was really nice to me. He's a gentleman
Apparently he got a lot nicer when he got older
@@arianrhodhyde7482
I haven't seen that film. Why were people down on him. What was he doing?
@@blackmore4 just drama queen stuff. i haven't seen the film either but in johnny green's memoir of working for the clash mick would take ages to get up, insist on being picked up from home, start the day taking drugs, just rock star bullshit that got worse as they got famous then got better later
One of the nicest 'famous people' I've ever met. And he doesn't weigh very much, but that's another story
proud and gratified ..what a lovely and unusual place to be for a member of a legendary band instead of the usual bitter and jealous stuff..but then that's what made the Clash the clash innit?!
Ian Wright and Mick Jones, two legends. Thanks for uploading.
Ah, Mick's a sweetheart: he never fails to make me smile :)
sir mick jones, respect for joe, positive thoughts cannot be bad!!
mick jones was so essential to the sound of the clash. If it wasn't for him it wouldn't be half the band it was. That's not take anything away from any of the other band members - every single one of them was extraordinary.
+T800System For sure each part of the band was integral to not just the overall sound but the vibe and energy they created.
Ignore Alien Orders Agreed!
It’s kind of a weird thing to think about. I always thought Joe was the main reason the band was so great. But nothing Joe made after the Clash even compared to Mick’s music after the Clash. Big Audio Dynamite’s first album could have well been a Clash album and it would have stood its ground in their catalogue.
He was a fukin Legend !!!! and still is ....
Thanks corkbender. some of you guys know more then me and others so its nice too hear the info from you
Great story man. Thanks for sharing. It doesn't surprise me because this band always had a lot of heart. Joe was a class act!
thanks for interview, he seems like a really nuce guy
I always followed Mick after he left the Clash. Then the police warned me to pack it in and leave him alone.
What a gentleman.
Lester Bangs hung with the band in 77, liked Joe but loved Mick.
I still think the remaining members of The Clash should release a new Clash album in the similar style as their first 2 albums.,
Would be amazing if they got together for it 🤟🏻
Thanks for your comments guys, hope you liked the interview
Sweet heart!
Charming man
Cool beans
2:10 You were are great band, "thank you very much"..
Mick is a propper sound as a pound bloke he doesn't care about fame n fortune unlike some people letting it get to there head.Is there anyone as cool and as genuine as Mick👍👍
That interviewer doesn't know who Joe's Strummer is? Why is Jonesey explaining it to him???
For the audience
What a lovely guy Mick is...not a very punk thing to say I guess but I've always measured people by how self effacing they are and Mick certainly comes across like that. Played a big part in my late teens growing up in the 70's and early 80's !
Talented and humble, great qualities in every walk of life x
Why is it always the legendary ones that die :-(
Joe Straccia Mick Jones was Joe's equal.
wish we had some geezers, like that today, stop the cuts, get active.
@StrayD0gProductions Is he going to get back together with other members of the Clash and a Clash tribute and or something like that. Id pay to see that.
1:44 a cara dele :(
i want subtittles, damn :(

Hmm interviewer should have done his homework.
Why do the great ones always die :( and why do the ones with great hair always loose their hair?
Joe was a legend and so is mick Jones, but in the interview you can still sense that Mick misses Joe but that he is also still a little bitter about some aspects of their relationship. Funnily enough the date the world is meant to end in in 2012 is the 10th anniversary of Joe's Death
The Clash always in the heart, but this interview did not come out well, because of an interviewer who seems to know nothing of the topic.
ffs he sounds almost exactly like Jimmy Page
Ok, Now there is one in the hundred that doesn't like it.
Nice Job Straydog.
Joe Strummer was the band! It's like having the Rolling Stones without mick Jagger, Or the sex pistols without John Lydon! Joe Strummer was a legend and the true king of punk!
John smith They were all good. Joes post Clash stuff was very good but I think it's the Clash stuff that will be most remembered and some of that must be because of the rest of the band
No, the Clash was a band, don't underestimate Mick Jones or the other members. They couldn't have done it without Joe and Joe couldn't have done it without them.
Mick Jones was as important to the Clash as Keith Richards was to the Stones. Jagger-Richards and Strummer-Jones are two of the greatest songwriting teams ever. To say that Joe was the Clash and Mick was the Stones is just plain ignorant
jokn smith you are a plonkmer son joe was the man but mick jones paul sim seen them all in there own bands B.A,D HAVANA 3 am bet you have seen fuck all dont comment on what you diontknow
Mick wrote half of the songs and sang them. We’re you even around then . If you were then you should know that !
"New music... new bands...." Mick realizes what's important today is not living in the past. No, it's the kids of today doing what The Clash & The Jam, The Fall, etc doing what they did when THEY were young.
Never forget what us old guys of today had to say about anything old people told us back in the 70s: "Fuck off and die, gramps. Go listen to your Golden Oldies & get out of our way." LOLOLOL. Even if we knew what they were saying was spot on, we'd NEVER admit it to them. And even if we loved their music (Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, et al., all kick serious ass) we'd NEVER NEVER EVER let them hear us listening to it. EVER.
So remember that the next time you're fixing to straighten some youngen out on "Today's Music." You old fart. :)
Love the Clash & the Sex Pistols
Always enjoy seeing Mick Jones being interviewed for the obvious reasons, but I had to stop watching this one after about two minutes due to the sheer cringe factor fostered by the interviewer. At 1:46, even Jones - the consummate gent - couldn't hide his irritance as to the shallow idiocy of the guy. Fair play to him for being civil, but his body language said it all...
And he throws in the Joe the Lion thing at the end ref David Bowie but the interviewer wouldn't have got that. Mick knows his music.
Youngster's take heed.....Musically and mentally.
wait a second...are you saying that The Clash SHOULD get a knighthood???? Boy, you sure didn't get punk...
not that it matters but every1 i know who has meet him says he is bi sexual id never of fort it thou all them yrs bk. no bova tho eh
I know a few people knew him back in the day but that must be a new thing, never heard that before 🤔
@@jonathansteadman7935 Noooo m8 ya got me wrong.Im on about Mick Jones, but it seems that it would bova you if Joe was which he aint, but homophobic and ignorant people would think that and a new thing it is not so your people must nt know them that well. rip Joe
Ridiculous remark.
Sounds like he has special needs not like the pioneer of Punk.
Joe was a great 👍 person meeting him in Sydney was a high Of me life tears in my eyes watching this
