I love these seat 61 travelogues; the text is minimal but they're still information-dense and capture the key features of the trip well. I'm at a loss to understand the downvotes unless they're coming from Michael O'Leary. (Which I wouldn't discount.) When I was last in Italy (Milano, specifically) two of us were heading north into Switzerland on the Bernina Express (another Seat 61 recommendation) and the other two were heading for Paris. I looked at booking Thello for them based on the then-current review on the Seat 61 site. Unfortunately it was a Friday and the prices skyrocket on Fridays. I stuck them on a daytime TGV instead. But next time I go I'm still looking at doing Thello from Venezia to Paris, and even more so after seeing this new video. Just not on a Friday is all.
Flown Paris to Venice, once. Hotel to hotel took approximately 10 hours. Train is a much more relaxing way, although train during the day means looking out the window to experience all of Europe’s wonder passing by
In a way your videos with no voice over are nice and simple and enjoyable to watch. On the other hand sometimes I wish there was narration in addition to the text to add more information
Could it have been the next day's train arriving? Cheating, I know, but easier than asking them to do it again, or getting out at Mestre and running across the causeway ahead of the train.
Kinda of a Darwin moment, hide yourself from a youtuber, but have your picture taken perhaps 1000 times as you wait for your train. Enough time for your picture to be run through interpol a couple of times. LMFAO !!

Very interesting...I live in Brescia, near Milan and see The Thello train passing by in The morning while waiting for my train. Normally it is 60-120 minutes late.
Nice footage for the tour, reviews required for this particular train though: it is quite uncomfortable and has many negative reviews online. We reviewed it ourselves to see if it was really as bad as everyone says, the video is on our channel. Long story short: it is too expensive for it's negative traits but quite fun for someone willing to have an overnight adventure :)
The number of berths ( it used to be ) 4 for 1st Class 6 in Standard. When the French owned it it was a pretty hit & miss service , still comfortable though & very quiet for a train.Haven’t travelled on it since it was privatised. French Railways range between very good & a bit third world.
Just have a question to where the train crossed into Italy from France is it the French Riviera via Marseille & Genoa or the Alps via the Frejus Rail Tunnel and Turin due to Both routes merging at Milano Centrale.
Neither, the train usually crosses the Swiss border at Vallorbe and enters in Italy through the Simplon's tunnel. Sometimes, like two days ago, it crosses the border through the Fréjus' tunnel.
Does anyone know then this train will resume service? The Paris - Venice route has been temporarily suspended due to Covid-19, but since countries are reopening I am hoping service resumes soon.
Great video! Would love to travel in this train. Can you please tell me, whether the dining car of this train has some vegetarian options too? I am fine with milk and milk products but I cannot eat eggs and meat of any kind (all types of meat). If it does not have any veg items on the menu, can I bring some packed food onboard? Are there some good budget restaurants/take away stores having veg items on their menu near Paris Gare De Lyon and Venice terminal? Also, this question might seem strange but I have to ask this. In the country where I live, we use bidet/hand sprays or jet sprays/health faucets in toilets, do European train toilets as well as hotel toilets have this facility or only tissue papers are used? Thank you for your patient reading.
TheRenaissanceman65 Thank you for replying. I am a lacto - vegetarian (I cannot eat meat (any type - red, poultry, sea food) and eggs but dairy products are fine by me) and travelling becomes a bit difficult for me. But thanks anyways!
TheRenaissanceman65 Yup, and I really want to visit Europe's many great countries and observe their culture. It would be a pity if I could not do it just because of food! Thanks for giving your time.
TheRenaissanceman65 Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, Risotto sounds nice. Also, I know that there will be varying choices for veg food in different countries. You are a very reasonable person, I must say. If I do face further unsolved doubts, I might bother you again.
TheRenaissanceman65 Oh well, thank you for clearing all my doubts. Would to love to eat the risotto too! (I myself am very particular about what I eat so I can understand what Italians feel about an imperfect risotto!)

Thanks, Mark, I don't know that route. Thank you for the tip! I'm going to look at it now. Do you have a video of that journey?
the sleepers are ok, but the restaurant is a cheap cafetaria with plastic cutlary, pity (no Orient Express)
The restaurant is nothing special, it's better to have a picnic on the train with Italian or French cold food.
and the Orient Express costs 1,000's more than Thello, so not really a good comparison.
