  • What a day visiting Battleship Cove, going on and into a battleship and a submarine for the first time was quite the experience. It turned into a wonderful learning experience as well. Please visit Battleshipcove.org for more information. Everything was shot today using the Osmo pocket, I'm really enjoying this piece of equipment.
Thank you to Steve at Battleship Cove and the Fall River police Dept for all their support with the drone shots and making this event happen the way it turned out.

I grew up on a cattle and sheep ranch in the middle of New Mexico. The drive to high school was 74 miles one way. The closest neighbors were 4 miles away. Anyway, I joined the Navy and was sent from boot camp to Sicily, then put on a Ch-53 and flown to the Eisenhower. The moment I stepped on the deck.... I was blown away by the sheer size! Your expression as you walked on the bow section looking aft..... I think all of us have the same feelings. Can you imagine growing up on a small farm in the 1920’s then one day serving on a battleship!!!!!!

I can’t even imagine how it must have been for you, being on these larger than life vessels. I’m sorry I know I’m repeating myself allot but I honestly went there to check them out and left there with so much more. Thank you so much for your service and sharing your story and impressions. I just can only imagine how it must have been to be on them for extended amounts of time. I also appreciate the close quarters, I’m sure my thoughts aren’t as close to reality but I do appreciate. @@bobfiore8 your welcome. I joined willingly and was greatly rewarded fr my short time in. The Navy paid for all my college and ultimately flight training. Because I had been in the Navy, I made contacts that help me get an airline job early in life.
If I could do it again, if the magic wand could send me back in time, I’d finish college first, get a commission and go into the surface warfare Navy. I’d focus on eventually becoming a captain of any surface ship the Navy would give me to command. I would not get married. It’s too hard on ones family. I’d try to find some who would have an old man after I finished up a career.

I visited the sister ship to the USS Massachusetts, the USS Alabama. A truly magnificent ship and such a great experience. I also toured the USS Drum, a WWII diesel electric sub just like the one you went aboard. I was also super fortunate to have toured the USS Clamagore in Charleston SC before she was sadly scrapped due to the cost of maintenance and repair. I was saddened to hear the USS Clamagore had been scrapped but not totally surprised as I had talked to several volunteers who worked on restoring her and they had said the repairs needed were far too costly for the museum to afford. While I definitely understood why, it's just horrible to think such a significant ship met with the fate of being scrapped. I encourage everyone to go visit the museum ships around the country and appreciate the history those ships represent.

    • @bobfiore8

Thank you and I did learn of the sister ship from another comment and I couldn’t agree with you more. If possible everyone should visit these museum ships and learn their history. For more it’s so much info that I couldn’t possibly get it all in one visit. I would say in two visits and still allot more for me to learn. I’m just trying to pay them and all those the served the honor and respect deserve when making these videos. I hope those that can’t make it to the ship can enjoy the video but if given the opportunity a video can’t do it enough justice as if seen in person.

The USS Massachusettes was in the battle of Casablanca. She sank about 10 enemy ships that day including the partially completed Vichy French battleship Jean Bart. She had 9×16" guns in 3 tripple turrets 2 forward firing and 1 aft. She also sank a few large passager liners that were in the wrong place that day. Even though the Pacific theater of war dwarfed the European in terms of US Naval power projection the Massachuettes sank more enemy vessels than any other American battleship

My father served on the Big Mamie in the Pacific. It is incredible when he describes the Kamakazi raids! At his battle station at the powder magazine elevators for the forward upper center 16in. gun he would be inactive because the 16 inch guns could not be used to fight against the fast and frequent Kamakazi planes. The 5in, guns, Bophors and 50cal. guns would serve as anti aircraft ordinance. I thank God that he is alive and well at 95 years of age. I have been on the Massachusetts in the late 1970's, it was eerily surreal knowing my father had fought in battle where I was now walking less than 28 years earlier. Thanks WW2 vets for fighting to keep our Constitutional Republic Alive and Free! Sadly our Free Republic is in it's worse shape ever. The present government is doing everything it can to turn the USA into a socialistic communistic country. Big Tec is serving the present government to limit free speech. In the past year we have seen the government seek to destroy small business, limit expression of the freedom of religion, express false narratives of current events, ignore our Declaration of Indepence, our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Patriots it is time to resist the evil that is seeking to do away with our God given Rights!

wrong terms aside, a cool video. fall river is a cool town if you know what to look for. also its a good place to stay if you want to see Providence, Newport and Boston on a budget. day trips to those places are not to long a drive. ~30min drive to Providence, ~30min to Newport, ~ 1 hour Boston. Salem is farther north at ~1 1/2 hours. food in town is really good too. battleship cove alone is worth the visit.

☑️ Yeah, it makes more sense to present them in their historically accurate wartime appearance, not how they looked when sitting in port or in the mothball fleet between wars! Not only would it be more historically accurate, the dazzle paint schemes look a LOT cooler, and would most likely draw more attention, more visits, and therefore more revenue for them! I'd bet that 90% of people have NO IDEA what WW1 & WW2 naval ships actually looked like during the WW1 & WW2 wartime periods.
I visited the North Carolina as a young kid in the 70s, when it was matte grey. Despite being somewhat of a history buff, I wasn't even aware of the various historic dazzle paint schemes until maybe the mid to late 2000's!

Mass.had a huge maritime history for 2 centuries very non existent after the 1980s. last time Fore River built new usa Navy ships

John are you talking about the Essex Class Air Craft Carriers? There was not an "Exeter" class as far as I know. The Essex class, had Displacement: 27,100 tons standard; 36,380 tons full load. One of the more well known of the Essex Class Carriers was the USS Franklin CV13, she was almost sunk by a kamikaze on March 19, 1945 off the coast of Japan. Casualties totaled 724 killed and 265 wounded. There is a famous photo of her returning to NY Harbor in April 45 with her flight deck all burnt up from the fires.

They actually dredged the channel to make deeper water for her. The Braga Bridge was always there, they had to dismantle the antennas and radar to fit under.
Fore River shipyard is in Quincy,MA and has nothing to do with Fall River. You can visit the heavy cruiser USS Salem in Quincy where the shipyard is.
