- What Happens to Your Unclaimed Mutual Funds?
Suppose you fail to encash a dividend or redemption cheque before the requisite date and it becomes invalid, then your mutual fund amount is categorized as unclaimed. Some of the common reasons for unclaimed redemptions or dividends, are a change in your permanent address, name mismatch in your bank account or mutual fund house records and the cheque not being sent to the bank for clearing within the relevant time. SEBI has made it compulsory for AMCs to provide the details of unclaimed investments on their websites. AMFI must also provide on its website the combined list of investors across the mutual fund industry whose folios have unclaimed amounts.
