Can you believe it? She has suffering with pneumonia when this performance. . But it's true. .!!(She suffered from pneumonia about eight times between 2016 and 2018).. .

The arrangement is a masterpiece; (she does her own with her team); the vocals are mind blowing (as always) and, she sang this whilst recovering from pneumonia. She is truly a once in a lifetime vocalist. Thanks for the reaction and keep them coming.

Amazing Grace is one song I am very much looking forward to of hers.
As others have stated, the phenomenal So Hyang was still recovering from pneumonia here.
Prior to this event, she was released from the hospital. Her physicians advised her to cancel, to not talk, and to just rest. So Hyang did not want to disappoint the audience. Furthermore, she truly believed her singing career was over, and wanted to sing was last time. After her performance, she was readmitted to the hospital. In 2023, if it's at all possible, So Hyang sounds better than ever. Her range is still ridiculous, and her breath control remains insane.
This woman will never fail to amaze me with the things I hear about her.

She had only just got out of hospital and was recovering from one of her many bouts of pneumonia, but this is still one of my favourites. I just love this arrangement, she breathed new life into this song.

Daz, I am not an 'organized religion' type person either, but this woman takes me to church every time I hear her! Ha! You may have read already that she was ill with pneumonia just before this performance and was told not to sing. She didn't want to let anyone down so this was her performance. I really feel she has more of the best live performances I have ever heard by any one artist. It seems nearly impossible that she can sound like that live. Not many have been as good live as in studio, but she is one. And she sings any genre. Her song 'Misty' (Ella Fitzgerald) from the BeginAgain Concert was/is incredible. You get to hear her voice in a jazzy stripped down setting, completely different from these big productions. That voice is pristine! Thanks for the great reaction!
I have notice that there isnt much to differ between her live and studio performances and they all sound incredible. She is one artist that always amazes me by what she does and how she does it. So much more has to come from this incredible woman.

The guy in the video was Shane Filan of the Irish group Westlife. The program was a tribute to him and his band, and every performer that night sang one of their hits. Westlife had a monster hit in the UK with "You Raise Me Up," thus Sohyang sang this in tribute to him. Shane told Sohyang that her version was his new favourite. Not hard to see why, eh?
The music for the song "You Raise Me Up" was originally written by a Norwegian group called Secret Garden, while the lyrics were written by an Irishman named Brendan Graham. Mr. Graham saw Sohyang's performance and was absolutely thrilled by her rearrangement of the music and performance, so he had the Irish embassy in Seoul get in contact with Sohyang to let her know that he felt her version was the best ever.
Here is how to pronounce Sohyang properly. So is just as it would be in English. The h and y are where it takes a slight bend in the road. They are pronounced as English speakers would say Hugh or huge or humongous. And the the ang is said as ong or ung with the o being soft and u as well. Sohyang, all one word and the spelling is from her passport, so that is how it is correctly spelled, too.
Sohyang was named by her grandmother, whom she believes God inspired with the name even though neither her parents nor grandmother were Christians. Her name means "enjoy the light" as people have correctly informed me. Sohyang's favourite movie star is Brad Pitt. Like "duh," eh? What woman doesn't love Brad Pitt? Ha, ha! 😎 Sohyang is a 100% self-taught singer except for a handful of sessions with Seth Riggs, which she didn't talk about in the interview I learned this from, so I think she had her Seth Riggs lessons after 2009 when this interview was recorded. She said she spent time with one of the producers of Boyz II Men while on vacation in California and learned either vocal technique or audio recording technique or both because he had a home recording studio. When she watches movies she doesn't take her hubby along because she wants to concentrate on the film without anyone interrupting or talking to her. Sorry hubby, but you can be so distracting and annoying at the movies! 😝 Sohyang likes action movies! She carries her Bible with her most places. It is an English New International Version and she tries to read five chapters a day, because it helps her stay fresh on her English.
Oh yes, Sohyang wanted to be involved in musicals on stage but was offered the role of Carmen, which she turned down because Carmen was a prostitute. It sounded like she was offered prostitute roles repeatedly, so she more or less gave up on anything operatic. Though, of course, she did appear in "The Sound of Music." She is just one of those naturally wholesome women, and I think that is one of the reasons we like her. 😇❤
Sohyang is also analytic to the nth degree! She will listen to a song she likes over and over until she is satisfied she knows it inside out. The bass line, the drums, the vocals. She keeps going until she has almost worn out the recording. Well, she didn't say that last part but it is pretty obvious that she knows her music and when she decides to cover a song, she is going to cover it like it has never been covered before! And don't we all know it!?!! 🎸👍💘🎸

Yes, Amazing Grace she has sung numerous times and as you might expect she has her own arrangement of it. It's really special as she sings part in English and part in Korean. There are numerous clips to pick from. There is one version that shows her in the studio and others on stage live. If you put "Sohyang Amazing Grace" in RUclips the studio version should be the top video. Or if you want a live stage version "So Hyang (소향) - Amazing Grace (어메이징 그레이스) | Global Church Blessing 2020 (지구촌교회 블레싱 2020)" She also recently did the song as a duet with Petra. Petra is someone she has recently been singing with. I would suggest one of the solo versions first.

BTW, always Search for English subtitles. Very important with Sohyang. The performance may be the correct one, but some haven't the subtitles. I don't know if the fans have told you this, but she designs the musical arrangement, chorus, orchestra, and staging for all of her live performances. So, yes, you are seeing every bit of her enormous talent in every one of these performances. Here, when the music stops and Sohyang soars up to sing "I", it must have echoed across Heaven and the Angels surely stopped for a moment to hear one of their own. Keep going. ☺

Yes, "mesmerizing" is the term for this performance. My initial viewing of Sohyang's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" ensnared me more than 6 years ago and I have remained happily trapped in Sohyang's music ever since. While I am no church goer either, her voice, and her life, serve as the testimony why people have faith. Sohyang has deep Christian roots and gospel is really what she has in her heart regardless the genre of songs she performs. i'm totally with you on not really being a churchgoer yet i absolutely adore gospel music, especially the powerful, big voiced & ideally, upbeat songs...a lot of people will mention "upon this rock" (again, i'm sure), it's definitely a great performance, just horrid audio quality in all versions i've seen thus far :(
so the other lesser known "church song" i love that sohyang sings is "his eye is on the sparrow". all versions are good but i'll edit this with a link to my favorite version (the only one i've seen with instrumental accompaniment, the others you'll find are all a cappella, that i'm aware of).
