  • We spent an amazing day at the Sustainable City, a housing development in Dubai with 3,500 people already living there and it's still not quite finished.
    This truly is a remarkable achievement, a stark lesson to building contractors the world over. It's not more expensive to build and it's hugely cheaper and more efficient to live in. Inspiring sustainable city planning!
    Spread the word if you know any builders!

Not like the idiots in office here now who want to drill and burn their way through as much fossil fuel as they can.

    People can say what they want that they can do it just because they are rich
    But the thing is they at least do it
    In my area, villages are way cleaner than the next city. Even though they are poorer
    Why? Because clean energy is cheap on long term
    I personally do not accept these excuses by people who didn't even try or did their research
    What Dubai is doing here is amazing. They are investing in the future. Although it's expensive to set this up, they've probably saved more money on the long term than they spent

Solar makes so much sense in the middle east, - it's free, it's everywhere, and the supply is not limited, or corporate controlled! It's hard to believe he encountered so much resistance to this eco-urban planning, but it's sure to make its' success that much more satisfying. Good work! Thanks, Robert!

I would have liked to know how much more it costs to live there than the average place in Dubai, commute times, have they filled it? etc etc. I love the city as a concept, but until the figures say it's sustainable long term, no developer in the UK is going to bat an eyelid.

    • @YoushaAhmad
      @YoushaAhmad 7 лет назад +34

      Yes, I thought this was a great video and I liked the development more than I thought I would. HOWEVER, there seems to be a lot of concrete used at this city. Sustainable developments need to be constructed from sustainable materials and not simply use renewable energy and have a few more recycling stations.

      @andrasbiro3007 7 лет назад +13

      They actually said that their net energy use from the grid is zero, and that it's economically sustainable too (which means it's not more expensive then regular housing).
      I'm usually skeptical about renewable energy, but in deserts solar actually makes sense now that the prices are more reasonable. I'm still skeptical about the UK and Germany. Also you can simply go nuclear and forget about conserving energy.

    Brilliant! What is so important is we seperate cars further from our living spaces. Encourage community working together. I wish my children could grow up in a place like this. the uk need to do something similair but i think the cars should be underground as we dont have as much space and more/bigger green areas. Then it just a case of making room for people to be creative and community run schools etc.

      Unnecessarily destroying still working buildings and structures is expensive and a waste. It is better to replace what is broken. No, a war is no excuse to randomly target old structures just to be replaced. A natural disaster is great excuse yet it is better to prevent an even great disaster that is climate change before it becomes inevitable to reverse the effects with what is already available solutions everyone can do now.
