Hikaru is easily one of the best defenders in the world (if not the best). I even remember Magnus once saying that he's very annoying to play against because even when the game seems completely won Hikaru always finds some resources to keep it going.

Like today I just saved a game from a losing position (blundered a piece), but I saw M10 (forced M5 but needed 5 moves to trick my opponent inti the M5 position lol), my opponent could give back the material to avoid getting checkmated and ended up in a worse position like 2~3 points positional advantage for me, but he ended up not seeing the overall threat I planned and fell into M5 🤧 I was able to win the game because I saw a trick (sequence of moves) that if my opponent took more time thinking / calculating, then he might probably draw the game... I was still 55%~60% confident of winning though lol

Not Dr. Marion Tinsley... who was the goat of checkers. Tinsley was like the Fischer-Capablanca-Tal-Kasparov-Magnus amalgamation of the checker world. The only problem with Checkers is that it's solved. As the rating of the top engines is now about 4k, and the 8 man endgame database is almost done and ready to be assimilated into your home computer, chess is for all intents and purposes being ruined for humans.
Any new Chess-like or Wei Chi-like game will be almost solved within 4 hours of an AI getting its hands on the just the rules. The machines will be faster, stronger, and with access to the Library of Congress, smarter than us. Skynet here we come!!

This game demonstrates the difference between data and knowledge. The bot processes data, and makes decisions based off of what it can calculate based off of some horizon number of moves. Hikaru has played so much chess that he knows so many mistakes and discards those moves so quickly that he doesn't need to directly predict exactly which moves the computer will take. He gets his pieces into position to be strong from any attack possible and then hopes that's good enough to find a working endgame.

It's a bot that will stay for a limited time and it's supposed to represent the star boost not any elo. The elo shown is definitely exaggerated and it changes nothing about elo ratings as it is a bot that will be removed just like mittens. There isn't a "true elo" for Star Plumber as the way that it plays represents the star power-up which becomes weak at the end of the effect which is obviously noticeable that this bot can't play end games at all representing the end of the star effect too. It definitely plays at a nearly perfect level at the opening and middle game just like Hikaru said which means that without the bad end game Hikaru would most likely never win and only get at max a draw. I have never seen someone even think about the rating they give the bots that way so I can say that you are the only one to think bots represent elo when they literally never did... there is tons of 1000-1600 bota that even 800's can beat which obviously makes no sense. Bots were never made to represent elo.

@@whatamidoing6078 it occurs to me that past a certain level of expertise there’s probbaly only so much better that one great player can be than the other- if a player has the ability to spot the best move 90% of the time or higher, that player can only be but so much worse than a bot of any significantly high elo even over 3500, whereas a player at even as high 2000 rated should still essentially be a universe worse than a player of a 3000+ level
