His hesitation move against Jacksonville for a sack was the sickest pass rush move I've ever seen in my life.

In darker lions chatrooms, James is nicknamed The Great Value Von MIller

He went to Jackson State University. Very much a backfield wrecker. Very underrated ❗️

He transferred there from Florida I believe. He is known but chose more exposure in a small school. Pretty smart and he is pretty well rounded. Since he didn’t start specializing in rushing the qb until coach prime time made him a problem.

He may never be an every down guy but he'll always be a pass rushing nightmare. Didn't mention it here but the guy has elite elite bend. His ability to get so low but still be flying is unreal. He's getting into the teens this year 14, 15 sacks easy

That explosion as a rookie was remarkable, very curious to see what he does in year 2 and year 3

Surprisingly, he actually has 34.5” arms. I think that combo of being undersized with long arms and quick hands is why he makes some o-lineman look foolish by going under/around them so quickly. I have a hard time seeing him getting less than 10 sacks this year

how do you do a James Houston video and not show the insane jump skip he did against the jags and his close out tackle on Justin fields after he drops back. Would not be surprised to see a 10+ sack season.

As of right now from what I’m hearing in interviews they are trying to get him comfortable in coverage to play a little more outside linebacker then he can kick down to edge on 3rd downs. Really at the end of the day if he’s a back up outside line backer and a rotational edge there’s nothing wrong with that. Everyone love versatility but the name of the game these days is pass and rush the passer.

Part of a very versatile edge group for the Lions. Houston to OTs is like a low outside slider on the corner to power hitters. You'd better time that sucker rightly or it's gettin by you

Houston has very long arms, I believe it's over 34 inches, so you got that wrong from the start.
His pass rush skills are elite, not many have that bend and burst, reminds me of Von Miller and it looks like the Lions are trying to make a Von Miller type player out of him by putting him in space more.

As it sits he's a liability in the run game which is Detroit's biggest area of need for improvement. With so many other more well rounded edge rushers on the roster it's easy to see why he currently isn't slated to start. But there's no denying he's dangerous as a pass rusher.

I mean yeah but in the modern Dline rotation meta he's perfectly fine to play third downs

He literally sacks Justin Fields with his O lineman. for some reason your video speeds up every time the moment of impact happens, so its hard to see. im surprised you didnt mention this. Something i rarely see, but super impressive.

Stop sleeping on HBCU players. James Houston wasn’t even the best edge rusher from HBCUs. Dallas just picked up Isaiah Land from FAMU and he had MORE sacks than Houston.
    Put respect on HBCU players

Hopefully, this is where he can be especially valuable for the Lions when they play those types of QBs. I look for him to get extra playing time against those guys.
