Better than not coming to a deal and him being unsatisfied. The market is the market nowadays. Gotta take gambles. Some other QB will get more in a year, and it’ll be a repeat process
Bingo. No such thing as “overpay” anymore
The beauty of this contract is the super high signing bonus makes it really front loaded while they not paying other guys and when all those receivers come up for contracts they will have cap space to resign them.
Signing bonus are split evenly per year over the life of the contract...
@@whodeynation7936Signing bonuses are typically paid on the outset of employment. That would mean it would be included in the players first check.
I dont even mind the 55 million a year, I just wish we signed him for longer than 4 years
It's 5 years. That's a long time
The salary cap only goes out 5 years, as in teams can't guarantee money after 5 years, so its kind of pointless for the team and player. Also, it's a 4-year contract because it doesn't kick in until after this year, so 1+4=5.
@legaryd thats right he is still under contract, appreciate the clarification
For that kind of money, a perfect season is a reasonable expectation.
100% agree.
He's been a packer for 4 seasons, knows the offense in and out. Took a team deep into the playoffs. He looked great for the last half of the year so I'm not upset by this extension
and also GOPACKGO
@@bigal5747 packers fans will say deep and it’s just the divisional round
@@mr.lucaln7097opposing fans will cope and seethe at the Packers finding another franchise quarterback.
@@dwill2187 I don’t mind it as much as other fans. I’m more focused on hating Purdy
He doesn’t deserve it…..didn’t show me $55 million QB last season…….
Love lost to Mr Irrelevant in the playoffs..a $1 million/year QB
I always want to take care of our players, but committing to huge contracts have hurt us in the past. Wish there was ways to have contingencies, incentive-based bonuses. Nothing against Jordan. GO PACK GO.
Worth every penny
Why? Because he had 6 good games?
If Green Bay would have been smarter and got rid of Rodgers after 2021, they could have gotten a better sample size of Love to make this decision easier. That being said, I still agree with the decision because you gotta commit to a QB. Can’t have your potential franchise guy being unsatisfied and risk losing him. Gotta take gambles.
Great deal to me…short term deal for a much deserved player. Wish we did a mahomes type deal (yes i believe hes that good)
4 years is short for baseball. This is a 55 million dollar a season 5th-8th year rookie option RN in all honesty tho
I'm a chiefs fan and our mahomes deal is continuing to look better and better. I remember thinking myself that's an overpay but now I'm finding myself in a position where a) we have the clear cut qb #1 in the leauge b) he's cheap and c) he's on a contract for a looooong time. MSN brett veach was a genius
IM LOVIN IT, im not gonna lie, my friend who would know said he nearly got 64 mil over 5 years but he wanted a shorter deal for another payday sooner. and gb has the cap space to afford anything. oh my god we are spoiled
Anyone criticizing this move is a casual fan of the sport and doesn't know how the business side of football works. If the Packers didn't pay him, countless teams would be eager to sign him. He was also the best quarterback in football for a significant chunk of the season, has all the physical tools necessary and is only 25. No-brainer decision for Green Bay.
They gave a contract after 1 SEASON!! Do you know how insane that is? This is a rare horrible move by the packers.
@@5STARGAV they gave rodgers his extension after 7 games bud lmao
lol way to inoculate yourself from any critique of your inane take. They did indeed back themselves into a corner, I don't think that's something that should be lauded. A million guys have come and gone that had "all the physical tools necessary".
I love whenever someone has an objectively hot take they still confidently say everyone who disagrees is a casual. Your take is controversial. Relax. He played half a good season, of course people will have doubts.
@@5STARGAVthey’ve had him in the building for 4 years. They’ve seen way more of him than the public and clearly have faith in him.
First and this contract is ridiculous. Guys with little results are getting contracts like this. Both in the NFL AND NBA.
he legit was historic dude. besides the final year is always fake, and bloated
Ellie QB’s and elite goaltenders are the 2 rarest commodities in sports though.
@@axe2grind244he hasn’t proven to be elite yet. He was terrible for half a season and really good for a few games. That equals out to be average
@@SmedleyButlerII when you're slightly below average to never be seen before historic numbers that does not equal average kiddo lol
@@SmedleyButlerIIhe was fine the first half, and elite the second half. The youngest team in the league had to learn how to mesh and play together over the first half a season, don’t mistake that for Love being bad
This will look like a steal in a year or two , QB inflation over last few years been crazy.
Keep setting the precedent higher. Blue Chip contract for a Red Chip player after 1 starting season.
I think if you look at it from a pure numbers perspective your reasoning is understandable. However, I will push back by saying these aren't madden generated characters, these are real human beings and human beings don't always go with the most rational option. Look at Davante, sure a different context, but the Packers offered him more than what the raiders did. We just fumbled how we handled it more likely, and Adams felt slighted and went to Vegas.
It ultimately worked out, but it was still a fumble. Though I understand the reservations on Love. I think if last season was a glimpse to his overall both highs and lows, then I think it's a super risky move, but it will have a good shot to equal a superbowl. While I don't see us as a dynasty right now, there's always that possibility.
He plays like he did the past 4 years and the fist 8 games of his full season
yeah they should have said we can give you 40 mil per year now or play good one more season and we can talk 55 per year
Dude has half a good season and they pay him that much? Wow..
He had superior Stats to Mahomes and beat mahomes straight up and outplayed him. He had the best playoff performance in NFL hist 99 QBR 158 passer rating. He's getting 46 M per year over the next 5 years that means he's not even paid in the top ten overall on average.
Haves and have nots
Love gets $55 Million and other players only get 1/55 of that salary.
Not fair in the extreme.
No such thing as fair in life. Packers paid Rodgers top 5 after just 6 games in his first season ever.
Jordan Love wouldn't have developed into what he is without sitting. Love also gelled with the young receivers and "got" the offensive system. Now the Packers have to pay to play the QB they developed. Or some other team will.
Dude better be at a MINIMUM as good as he was at the end of last season. Or else this was stupid because that first half of the season Love was terrible. His floor is a pretty terrible QB, but his ceiling is possibly being the best QB. I guess we’ll see
Makes no sense. The money is fine, 4 years is bizarre.
After FOUR MEDIOCRE years and a LOSING record (20-30), Trevor Lawrence got $55M/year.💰Jared Frickin' Goff got $53M a year.💰 If you think Jordan Love is overpaid, you just don't understand the economics of sports.
For 1 good half of the season lol
Say what you want... dude threw for 4k yards 32 tds 11 ints. And 95+ passer rating while playing every game. Why focus on half a season. This is the whole season, damn good stats and he whooped tail in playoffs. It's a no brainer
Lol all while having the youngest offensive roster ever in nfl history lolololol
@@jellyman9013 he's still got so much to prove
I mean they weren’t not gonna pay him. Like what else are you supposed to do
He was the best QB in the league the last half of the season, packers have seen him for 4 years develop, we have seen 1, and they gave Rodgers a blockbuster contract midway through his first season. I think they know what they're doing
As a niners fan all I can think of when I see this is, how will we afford Purdy...
they won't pay him they will let him go

@@jakewettengel7708 Because Purdy has already been better than Cousins, and the draft is very unpredictable.
Love doesn't play under his bridge deal that was clear to everyone but the media
Love's a good player but this is gonna backfire so hard it's gonna be hilarious.
Dude lost to the Raiders, I would have waited till after the season to pay him.
Is it smarter to spend 100M on four athletes across the defensive line ? With a 25M QB?
Hell nah, if he gets 55m a year, Mahomes should get 150mil a yr
I’m here🏴☠️🐸🏴☠️

That’s not how the market works 🤦🏻♂️
Love deal is great. Heads and shoulders above paying Tua, Dak or Goff
Not head and shoulders above Goff
How is he the highest paid player in NFL history? He got the largest signing bonus in NFL history but his AAV is the same as Joe Burrows, with way less guaranteed money... Burrow 275 with 219 guaranteed over 5 years, Jordan Love 220 with 150 guaranteed over 4...

@@JBullock54 I think you have a reading comprehension problem buddy... I completely understand why he has the contract he does. Im asking why people are saying he's "the highest paid player in NFL history" when that's not accurate. The accurate statement would be he received the largest signing bonus in NFL history...
Sometimes i dont get why some fans get mad at players holding out for a deal or leaving a team. At the end of the day the NFL is a business and these teams make hundreds of millions. If a player wants more and their stats justify that and their value is worth it pay the player or lose them. Because just like teams make millons off of players, players make less. Yes they are all millionaires just think about it this way. Yes the Cap is important but it come down to how much the team values the player and the players worth 🤷🏿♂️
Lets say you were the best in your job your employer wanted you to take less on a year you had the best production. You would eventually say scew that and find a new job eventually. Yes its millions compared to what we the average person makes but thats how i think about it. I wouldnt take less knowing what my worth is.
This sounds like you don't understand what it is to be a sports fan.
@@inhop2443Sounds like you don't know the NFL is a business and entertainment.
What is the alternative? You screw with Jordan & his money, he remembers that & then he walks at first opportunity. I don’t think that’s wise at all. He knows the offense, he has excellent synergy with his team, he causes no trouble. You have to pay for that. Trying to play hardball is not wise.

No. It's not a good idea. Look at all of these homer Packers fans acting like signing love to a deal like this is a great amazing idea based on half a season that was worth anything(Buoyed by performances against mostly bad defenses and cupcake teams not named KC or Tampa Bay), and a playoff win over a Dan Quinn lead Cowboys defense that was confused and blew multiple coverages leading to wide open WRs playing pitch and catch with Love under zero pressure. Oh and that's not even taking into account his mid game against SF where he literally threw his team's chances of tying the game and potentially winning it in OT away with one of the dumbest throws I have ever seen in a playoff game. On 1st down, he throws across his body. And that's what you are paying for?
Yup‼️🤷🏿♂️🤣💯💯
