Have you ever considered what’s lurking inside your toothpaste tube? This week, we peel back the label on oral care products to uncover the truth about sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and its role as a surfactant in your daily brushing routine. It’s more than just froth and bubbles; we’re talking about the balance of your oral microbiome and the potential for SLS to disrupt it. From the historic use of these chemicals in our toothpaste to their classification as minimum risk pesticides, we question the necessity of such harsh ingredients in light of emerging research highlighting the importance of a healthy mouth flora.

Been off SLS toothpaste for several years now and not one cold sore. Used to get them fairly regularly.

Where is the link for the list of all the various names of surfactants you said you would include? It's not there. Thanks for all your work and information.

Hi Dr. B. I noticed quite quickly that the FYGG toothpaste separates between uses. Even a quick shake up & down will remix ingredients. I simply tap the flat end of the tube on the vanity and all is well. Thanks for putting this toothpaste out. I am loving it.

Some of your opinions coincide with those of Dr. Ellie Phillips, but others do not. A discussion of both of you may be interesting.

My "case study" is not scientific evidence, I know. But since getting off SLS toothpaste, my Oral Lichen Planus has healed in under a year. Over two decades of misery, GONE. Have since switched soaps and shampoos also. Your FYGG is wonderful. I work for a dentist and have introduced her to the idea of using your nano hydroxyapatite varnish on me. It'll take some time to convince her, gotta find research articles...

I love your toothpaste, and shaking the tube every now and then, if needed, so we aren’t killing the good stuff with shady ingredients, is not a big deal. 😊

Just bought a kids toothpaste! This sounds amazing and I’m so thankful to have learned this. Now I know why I get those sores.
I wanted to ask if you could talk about biting one’s lips and mouth. I bite the inside of my cheeks CONSTANTLY.

Using SLS free toothpaste is the only thing I've found to significantly reduce the amount of canker (not cold) sores/mouth ulcers. I grew up with them chronically and it wasn't uncommon for me to have several in my mouth at a time. Nobody could give me answers. After switching to SLS free toothpaste (sensodyne) the past 7ish years, I only get one every so often.

Dr. I lke your products and the different approach you are taking than we have in the past but we all have a unique situation and some have an overload of pathogenic oral bacteria and there are probably not enough good bacteria to feed, nurture or save with your products. The best answer for some folks is to use a bactericide short-term and neutalize all their existing oral bacteria and then start over by intoducing more friendly species.
