I went to Squamish high school in 1950-51, seventh grade. Lived in Britannia Beach, nine mile bussing each way. Dirt road then, used to ride our bikes on weekends to Squamish or take the bus for $1.00. Moved in 1951 to Arizona. Road and railroad came after we left. Prior to road and RR steamship was only way in . Liked living there, very isolated but lots to do.
Michael, it was a good video. I think you did focus more on the food and beverages of Squamish than anything. No, I did not think it was too fast-paced. Enjoyed the cameos of your videographer. Your mind goes 90 to nothing at all times, and I think that is why I enjoy your videos; they are never dull. THUMBS UP!!!
Some other suggestions for Squamish. Backcountry brewing for some awesome beer and pizza. The spit to see wildlife and get a full view of the entire valley and sound. The river path around brackendale for the massive amount of eagles. And sunny chibas for chicken!
And the place to watch the playoffs is the Shady Tree Pub in the "new" Downtown area... I usually stick to old Downtown but if a canadian team is in the finals, i'll take the bus there!
Great video. Love the pace and the enthusiasm. You have a brought a new perspective for lots of locals who would not have considered Squamish as a place to visit for a break. Thank you for your great videos.
Good job. I like the vibe change. The edits are clean. Now, I wouldn’t make this for every video, but again that’s just me. Once in awhile to change things up, this flow is good. Great job. I love The Squam too❤️👊🏻❤️
I agree. Once in awhile. This pace particularly suits a city such as Squamish that isn't really on the radar for much except (as Pearl L says above) a pit stop on the way to Whistler. But I'd also like to see the how to best chillax there version--maybe just do the 24-hours in slow motion over a long weekend.
The first thing I thought was “OMG let’s go!” As for pace: the speed makes me feel like Squamish is more vibrant than I give it credit for. It’s more than a pitstop to Whistler, I see! But question: does Squamish do only one speed? Can one chill in Squamish?
Ditto from all of the earlier comments! Another excellent entry from beautiful BC. The only things missing were either your sister, your girlfriend or your parents...haha. Michael, I thought the pace was perfect. You had a lot that you wanted to show in a limited amount of time. Yet another place that I would love to visit on my Canadian tour when we are free to do so again.
Thank you so much for this beautiful tour of downtown Squamish 👍. I haven’t been there for a few years but my favorite restaurant that I’ve been to is Fergie’s ❤️. But I would love to try out many of the places that you have shown 😊.
I lived in Squamish for 13years, never got the chance to actually visit these places. I will now have to make visiting Squamish a trip of mine and try some of the places I never got to do! Thanks!
It is fast-paced, but totally works for this video. These are highlights of YOUR favorite spots, and you did say that there is more to see, so I think this is perfect.
This one was fascinating Mike. Do you have any more of other locations around Canada. Good possible series? 24 hours in... Loved that you showed the Crash Hotel, all of the delicious food stores and cafe's, gift stores, graphics stores, home decor/plant stores, & community garden (my favourite).
Downtown is just the start. Food: Samurai Sushi, two locations, near Nesters downtown or near London Drugs in Garibaldi. Lil Chef Cafe behind independent grocer. Timberwolf in the Mountain Retreat Inn. There are so many more. Shopping: Pearls, a thrift shop funding Helping Hands. The two health food stores, Health Food Heaven near Nesters and Euphoria Health near Canadian Tire. Farmers Market on Saturday in the summer next to Copper Coil. Entertainment: Squamish Rafting Company. Sea To Sky Gondola, yes the one that made the news, twice (bring your own snacks, the restaurants are expensive, but still at least buy a drink at the top and thank the server for being there, then go for a hike. check ahead for events, like live music). The Hairfarmers, the band of all bands, they usually play in Whistler but if they are playing in Squishy (thats what I call it, the town) then go watch and give them money to play your request song. Brackendale Art Gallery. Railway Heritage Museum. Squamish Days Loggers Festival. Squamish Wind Festival. Always check listings and websites before attending. Otherwise, chill, sit back and people watch, this town is funny when all the city folk visit and just fly by to go to Whistler. I have had more celebrity sightings here then when I went to LA. And remember, the locals like this town the way it is, or was. Now I have to find Downie.
Great job Mike!! I know they have filmed several movies in Squamish. I would love to visit someday. Keep up the great work. Definitely inspire me to make better videos for my channel.
Been waiting for this video ever since I saw your "if you've got baggage, this is the room for you" IG story a little while back! Howe Sound Brewing is my favourite place to stop at after a hike up to Garibaldi Lake! Loved the video, will have to go back and explore more!!
That donut looked delicious! I love how you are showcasing some small businesses in this video. I never heard of Squamish, but now I think it seems like a cool place.

Hey Mike - great video. ツ I’m a bit late in comments on this one. First off, I gotta say - this is exceptionally professional! This is something you’d see on a plane that is trying to advertise local villages around your main destination stay (I’m thinking of sunwing vacations that sell you additional outings). Great use of editing (sometimes the fast cut editing can be dizzying - i.e. bar mixing - prep). Excellent segues, both editing and scripting. I definitely enjoyed the “breaking the fourth wall” you’ve incorporated into the video. And - I noticed you used little sound effects - I wasn’t much aware of them being used in the past, but they were definitely prominent in this video. Your skills are certainly evolving! This video is something you can put into your portfolio if you’re thinking of selling destination ads.
I love Squamish. I'll be back in September! And omg! At 2:19 my channel sticker is still there lol 💜💜💜 Was surprised you didn't feature the Zephyr! Food is so good there. The Mountain Burger Housr is great for hearing old timers tell stories and get breakfast. I like the thrift stores on Cleveland avenue. The little Christian(?) one i think it's called St.Joseph's has great stuff for very cheap. I bought my wedding dress & my man's suit at Pearl's. Interesting to see how they revamped the Chieftain Hotel. There is a great morrocan cafe on 2nd Avenue the Saha Cafe. Also the library has a seed library and interesting art inside. They have a lot of manga and an impressive biography section AND your Vancouver Public Library card works there and you can return the book at either locations. 👍
Nicely energetically done. Lots more dtn. ... insider tip: Pearl's Value & Vintage!! Heart and Soul of shopping adventure in Squamish. Not just the legit Magic Kingdom of finds in Squamish, but because they quietly support women & children in need, along with many other base level causes / needs, all the funky. caring donations are dropped off there. The variety & way it is run (including volunteer effort) reflects the soul of Squamish. If you are a thrift adventurer ... Pearl's is heaven. Open eyed kids can find spirit of discovery in Pearl's. With an open mind you can have fun in Squamish.
Love the video! The pace in my opinion was good. Fantastic focus on just the downtown area and great focus on local businesses instead of the obvious. One thing I would add for people who are not familiar with the local and regional geography, how do you get to Squamish? Other than that, LOVE IT!

OMG Mike great job, one of my favorite videos from you ever!!! What a great place to explore and capture, I'm definitely checking out the donut shop next time I'm in Squamish :)
Opening in a coffee shop really set the pace for the video! That must have been some strong brew! Great video. Squamish looks like such a fun place to hang. It appears to have a fun and bohemian groove. Their Chamber of Commerce should use this video to promote the town. Well done, my on-line friend. Keep up the good work.

Hopefully the US/Canada border will reopen soon because I got check Squamish out. Just two hours away from my hometown of Bellingham. Another awesome video, Mike!
Have never been there, maybe as a kid but I have no memories of it so I'm saving my "first" visit for after I get my motorcycle license, I hear those are the best kinds of trips with a motorcycle
Mike. What a beautiful town and absolutely love the hotel (unique decor). The Pacific Northwest is so beautiful and although I've never been to this town, it's name sounds familiar for it has the squa , qua, and ish that is in so many town names in the whole region. I really enjoy you and your videos. They always perk me up. Thanks
Once Covid is finally over, we plan on travelling to North America again, maybe take in Squamish, it does look very nice! Thanks for the video. Oh, by the way, why do you want us to know about your favourite underwear? ?
Terrific presentation as always Mike! Can’t wait to travel up to B.C. Once it’s safe again but sadly, fall is here and as a recently retired Pediatrician, I can predict it’s going to spike in the coming months 🤔. Good to see the rainbow flags and know that Squamish is open and welcoming 👍🏻. Best regards to you and the family 😉
Mike ... ideally, I’d like to purchase a 3bed/3 bath condo West End Vancouver along the quay to use May-October to get out of the oppressive heat and then have the same here in the lower 48 for October-May. 👍🏻
What a beautiful space but I am afraid that it is crowded there during the holiday season, isn't it? The shops are looking great and the surrounding.... amazing
No, surprisingly not. Squamish is between Vancouver and Whistler and is usually much quieter than either of those cities, which is why I find it to be underrated.
@@DownieLive then it deserves it to be explored but not from a mass of tourists. More what we called soft tourism. I hate it when I see when tourists visit a place and let their rubbish there like ever they want even when there are trash bins for the rubbish. At the sea it happens often that they leave their cigarettes on the sand or used nappies from their children's. It is unbelievable. Why they don't take a bag put it in there and remove it when they leave the beach. Or at the side of the motorway there are so many bags of a fast food company. It makes me so sad and angry about this behaviour. So I hippie the tourists won't destroy this nice place there
Because we saw this we are planning a staycation to squamish this weekend never thought to stop by but hubby the kids and i need to get away and not cash out too much... can you make a video of Abbotsford please 🙏🏼🥰
Wow. Thank you for this video. I am wanting to move to BC from MB. I want to follow my dreams and move while my children are still small. Does Squamish have affordable housing? Or any housing initiatives for low income people?
Hey Mike, another great video highlighting the commercial side of Squamish. I'm sure the good folk appreciate the promotion of their businesses as so many world-wide have crashed as a result of COVID 19. I was wondering who was assisting you until Matt came on the scene. If you do a part 2 don't forget West Coast Railway Association's Museum ( Yes, I've seen the other clip you did some time ago). My first visit to Squamish back in '89 was by rail behind 2860 "The Royal Hudson" that's one of the exhibits there now. When you finally get downunder, you might like to do a promotion on one of Victoria's Regional Cities, Castlemaine. Like Squamish, it has a thriving commercial centre (I hope it still has 'cos I haven't seen it since COVID struck), several fine hotels/motels, great eateries, several collectibles stores, an art deco theatre and the Victorian Goldfields Railway which links Castlemaine with the National Trust Historical Town of Maldon (Steam trains on weekends and during school holidays). Oh, and you can get there from Melbourne by rail on V/Line, the regional rail passenger service. Sorry to hear Canada is experiencing a second wave of COVID. Hope you can still remain free to travel safely. I'm looking forward to our 5km radius restriction being lifted soon - may be after next weekend if the daily case average over 14 days gets down below 5. I'm not holding my breath about that though. Now off to the shearing shed with your heavy load of hair!
The only time I was ever in Squamish was in August 1983 on a 2860 trip. During the stop there, I saw the engine's cab. That was when they ran the MV Britannia in parallel with 2860 and I had the option of taking each of them one way, but I stayed with the train both ways. The Britannia wasn't high on anyone's recommended list back then; is it still in service?
well I live in squamish..... other than these spots it has famouse kiteboarding spot by downtown, bald eagle watching in brakendale, mighty chief, adventure inn hostel, sea to sky gandola, watching bear fishing on mamquam river, watershedd grill from neflix show virgin river and a lot more.
Iv lived in Squamish for 18 years. I still live here. Really don't want to leave. Love the town and the people in it.
You should be hired to promote tourism‼️👍👍

Glad you enjoyed it, Bill. It's a pretty good day, right?!?
@@DownieLive For sure Mike Have a great Thanksgiving weekend
Yes! Thank you! You too!
Hopefully the US/Canada border will reopen soon because I got check Squamish out. Just two hours away from my hometown of Bellingham. Another awesome video, Mike!
Yes, when it reopens, come on up!
Hopefully it stays closed
Nice video Mike. We've been to Squamish twice before but never really explored the downtown area. Next time we probably will after watching this.
Yes!
Cool little city
Great video, I really want to visit now aahh those views!
Your videos are absolutely amazing. Too bad I can only enjoy it once
So Squamish is not just a Motorcycle stop or hangout stop? :D
Exactly.
Have never been there, maybe as a kid but I have no memories of it so I'm saving my "first" visit for after I get my motorcycle license, I hear those are the best kinds of trips with a motorcycle
Yes! Such a fun ride up the sea to sky highway for a visit 👌🏼
Thanks
Thanks for the visit and the feature!
My pleasure! I love Squamish!
Next year I am going to Squamish as an exchange student and I will try out all those places 😁. Thx for the insides‼️
What is exchange student mean
Once Covid is finally over, we plan on travelling to North America again, maybe take in Squamish, it does look very nice! Thanks for the video. Oh, by the way, why do you want us to know about your favourite underwear? ?
great job bro wonna go!
Absolutely it’s welcoming. Thanks Rob. Stay safe and we’ll see you up here when we can.
Mike ... ideally, I’d like to purchase a 3bed/3 bath condo West End Vancouver along the quay to use May-October to get out of the oppressive heat and then have the same here in the lower 48 for October-May. 👍🏻
That sounds ideal!
So I hippie the tourists won't destroy this nice place there
Mike, great vid but next one. Slooooooww down a little
Yeah, this one was very fast. Good recommendation. Thanks
This was done really damn well. Congrats dude!
Thanks Jax!
Love your videos mike. I’m staring out myself, Have a long way to go though. You’ve raised the bar very high!
Awesome. Thanks Josh. Good luck!
This guy SLAPS

And I want to go to some of these places
Because we saw this we are planning a staycation to squamish this weekend never thought to stop by but hubby the kids and i need to get away and not cash out too much... can you make a video of Abbotsford please 🙏🏼🥰
That is awesome! Have a good time! Abbotsford, eh? I'll add it to the list. Make sure to try the donuts at the Sunflower Bakery!
@@DownieLive oh for sure.. i did a list of must go to's (99% of the ones you've recomended has been noted) well be staying at Crash as well 🥰
Wow. Thank you for this video. I am wanting to move to BC from MB. I want to follow my dreams and move while my children are still small. Does Squamish have affordable housing? Or any housing initiatives for low income people?
I think you'd be best to email the City of Squamish for more information.
Love this place!
Hahaha Michael, yes, I need a haircut.
Fingers crossed your numbers drop and you can venture out further than 5km.
@@DownieLive Certainly do. Now go into Google and check out Castlemaine Victoria.
Great video Mike looks like a fun place to visit.
Great video!!
Thanks!
well I live in squamish..... other than these spots it has famouse kiteboarding spot by downtown, bald eagle watching in brakendale, mighty chief, adventure inn hostel, sea to sky gandola, watching bear fishing on mamquam river, watershedd grill from neflix show virgin river and a lot more.
I’m going to have to visit here. Looks beautiful.
Definitely add it to your list.
