Great break down. Looking forward to the next. I have a feeling you're going to shred it... can't wait.

It makes no sense that Ahsoka refuses to train Grogu in fear of him turning to the Dark Side due to his attachment and AT THE SAME TIME she sends them to another fetch quest to a Force beacon so they can, hopefully, summon a Jedi to train him, the very thing she is trying to avoid.

Taking a step back, the fetch quests make sense in so far that the ST did no world building. The Mandalorian is repairing the damage the ST did, while fleshing out the wider universe. JJ's films tend to be very superficial in world building, hence why he was a good Mission Impossible director and not a good Trek or Wars director... RJ... happened, and then it was JJ again.
Now the Mandalorian is building the universe fit for a Mouse.

@@davfree9732 JJ Movies are all about fetch quests too. BB-8, Map to Luke, Luke's Lightsaber,, Luke, Information about Palpatine Return, Wayfinder, Magic Dagger, droid memory eraser, Captain's Medallion..
I don't see how lack of world building calls for the use of fetch quests.

@@mellowgeekstudio JJ' suffers from falling back on TV film making, instead of developing his ability to make films for cinema. Cinema requires 2-3 hours max. Yes you can have a fetch quest in your film, but the purpose of a FQ is to move the characters from one place to another and deal with what they find there... Moving character locations requires setup, establishing context etc... The Mandalorian maybe spends 1.5 to 2 hours of narrative screen time to establish and have an adventure in each new location. On film, by that point, the audience is walking out the door...
TLDR - Fetch Quests are one tool in the director/producers tool box, and work better in a TV format than a film format, due to the TV's 10-12 hour long form storytelling, compared to films short form story telling. FQ's are not the only tool, but are valuable when used correctly.
And also, you know, JJ is a businessman who used FQ's for a different purpose than exploring the setting and background of the universe. When has Abrams ever cared about setting? Its why he was so good making Mission Impossible when the setting was our world, compared to fantasy sci/fi worlds where the setting requires more focus. TFA still suffers from bad setup to the ST that it allowed RJ to turn up and shatter all the potential plot elements Abrams set up... because Abrams setup was suggestions, not cemented plot points that had to happen. Thus, when he got to TRoS, he had to cram 4-6 hours of film into 2-3 hours of movie.

Episodes in The Mandalorian should be given a full hour since no commercial breaks need to occur. Splicing in flashbacks to what Ashoka is learning from The Child would cement his place in events of the Prequel movies. Unfortunately we are still left with the large white elephant and wondering if The Child’s parents will be established characters or create through a brainstorming session.
Hopefully there is a set outline for the series, but all we have is hope!

I love the analogy at the beginning. It’s a huge universe you can tell a great story with original characters with out retconning the original IP. This is only going to lead to green milk Luke. Great review.

This episode did something important for Star Wars. It showed that there are other fighter that are not Force wielder, nor Mandalorians and they are capable. I think Star Wars needs to
    a) tone down the overpowered Jedi and Sith and also make clear
    b) it's a dirty dangerous galaxy, there are many capable fighters, and they can be equal to Jedi, Sith and Mandalorians.
And I totally disagree about your force bubble idea.

The ending fight did bother me. Based on the parrying of the spear, Ahsoka could have swiped her light sabers down the shaft of the spear and cut off the fingers of her opponent. It’s not like getting touched by the spear would hurt her unlike if you tried that tactic against another lightsaber.

She wanted that woman to be whole, with the premise she was defeated by skill, not by physical pain. But it was a mental one.
So, she achieves the desire effect...she wanted a question answered without additional hardships.

The first Asoka mist fight was kinda funny to me. Yes, glowing lightsabers in the mist look great but it gives away her position...
    Nonetheless, good episode, great review.
    P.S.
Backdoor pilot? What does this have to do with gay aviators? :D

A regular The Mandalorian episode doesn't tell much story. And I'm not a big fan of that (but I also don't hate it, It's ok). This one was different.
It didn't do much, but it did all of it right. This worked, at least for me.
There was one thing... Bo-Katan send Mr. Mandalorian there, like Ahsoka is on this planet at least for some time. But then it felt like she just arrived there recently, to do just one thing. The timeframe to meet her there was very small.

May I remind on the other premise.... on why she did not take the mantle of training of Grogu. She was never anointed as a Jedi, or Jedi Knight.
Therefore, in a technical sense, she cannot train someone if she did not complete her own path of becoming a Full Jedi. She is not a Grey either, just a very efficient Force Wielder.
She wanted to defeat her opponent in a fair & square bout...with the outcome to get her question answered. It is the subtleties on obtaining the results to where she desired, without being hard fisted with her extra abilities.

@@Carlos0619ASmith In Revenge of the Sith Anakin gets angry at the council cause they don't make him a Jedi Master, even though he is allowed to be in the council. That's one of the main issues he has with the council.
She has much more experience now, two decades since Revenge of the Sith, than Anakin had when he began training her.

@@mellowgeekstudio Agreed; but from her side, she does not want to repeat the mistakes of the past. Seeing Grogu, vastly reminded her of that.

@@Carlos0619ASmith I feel like you are changing the subject. You said she couldn't train Grogu cause she wasn't a Jedi Master. I said that Anakin trained her and he wasn't a Jedi Master. You said he was granted the position of Jedi Master during the Clone Wars. I provided evidence that he wasn't based on Revenge of the Sith.
The real reason she couldn't train Grogu is because that would end the plot of the Mandalorian and she was only there to generate hype for her own show. But the plot couldn't provide a believable reason for this so they had to rely on multiple plot contrivences. "I don't want to train him cause I believe that will be dangerous, but I will show you a way to contact another Jedi to do it so your show can go on".
