I debated whether to even share this video. But... Here it is. For better. Or for worse. I'm going with worse. So, so, so much of the worse...
    :)
As requested, I'm sharing my very first time using oil pastels. EVER. (Other than when I swatched the little circles on the swatch sheet.) I have no idea what I'm doing and, as per usual, my brain sometimes has vague ideas of what I want to do but seems incapable of actually visualizing the finished product. So... I muddle along and hope for the best. :)
Feel like muddling along with me? Let's go!
Thank you to the amazing Maia at ‪@coloredbymaia6476‬ for inspiring me to try oil pastels! If you want to learn how to actually use oil pastels for backgrounds :) definitely check out her channel!!
If anyone has any questions about anything they see in the video or would just like to say hello, please pop down to the comment section below!
Thank you for watching! Keep calm and colour on! :)

Alone and feeling alone are totally different. A person can be lonely in a crowd of people. I believe that when one is at peace and comfortable with one self then it’s easy to be alone.

Connie, thank you for this entertaining video. It's very brave to film and post the process of trying out a medium for the first time. I've said it before, but it's refreshing to see this trial and error kind of videos. We all need a reminder that not everything has to be perfect and that it's mostly a learning curve and that we should just have fun. Well you certainly had fun! (and me as well watching this :D). I really like the end result. I've seen your finished picture in your other video and the background reminds me more of thunder, which really fits with the colours that you used for the bird!
I'm a fellow introvert and I've often felt more lonely with friends than when I'm alone. I do lots of stuff alone and it makes me happier than having to spend time at social gatherings.

I am also an introvert and I stay on my own a lot. I do like other people but in small doses. Good for you for trying the oil pastels when you'd never done them before. I bought a set and I gave them away. I didn't like them at all. Great video

Hi Connie! I think your background turned out very pretty. I like that you aren't afraid to try new things. I always tell myself when learning a new medium:
    1. There's always a learning curve. It takes time, so be patient.
    2. It won't turn out the way you want right away and that's okay. You are learning along the way.
    3. Comparison to others is the thief of joy. So don't do it.
Those things help me so maybe they'll help you too. I'm also new to trying oil pastels because I was inspired by Maia.

I also have that kind of thought life. I'm a leadership and management trainer in my day job, which requires a lot of interaction and connection. This can be depleting because I'm naturally a strong introvert. This means that I guard my time at home jealously and absolutely love being on my own. I've also wondered about being lonely as opposed to being alone. I'm definitely not lonely, but I have friends who think I'm a hermit!! My hubby is also happy with his own company, which is a boon. Colouring speaks to everything I enjoy: playing with colours, researching, learning techniques and all aspects of creativity. RUclips is my unintrusive companion. I really benefit from watching you take risks because I'm a perfectionist and need to loosen up. Thank you for your channel, I thoroughly enjoy listening and watching. ❤❤❤❤

You ask, “how do you guys use oil pastels?” My brain, “like a kid finger painting on the walls when her parents aren’t watching.” …but I think the answer to the question you asked was actually - backgrounds.
Entertaining video and love that you were willing to share your experience. The background works! I see a bird flying through an electrical storm over a body of water.

You made my entire day!! I have done the thing you did so many times and the banter in my head is exactly the same as what goes thru your head. I do not really get lonely actually. I enjoyed Covid...being locked down, that part. Here in California it slowed down and was so nice to actually see people taking their time and enjoying just being without rushing around frantically for the next thing!! I have made so many messes. I rip them out....I lost my bravery for coloring. Then I found you tube and channels like yours and did not feel I was alone in my thoughts. Johanna coloring channel was talking about the joy it brings....not worrying about the out come! Did you have fun??? did you learn??? I enjoyed your process and it looks better then you think. we are so critical of ourselves😘

Hi Connie! I really enjoyed this video. I know it didn't turn out as you pictured it, but I think your background looks good as it suits the image on the page. I haven't had the courage to purchase any oil pastels myself because I have no idea how to use them! I admire you for having the courage to film yourself using them for the first time.
Like you, I'm an introvert and a thinker. I believe that being lonely and being alone are two very different things. To be lonely I feel that you have to miss the company of other people, whereas to be alone often means that you are happy in your own company.

I think it actually turned out really cool. Oil pastels are a very tricky medium, as I found out the hard way when I tried to use some for a background on a page I colored. Oil does not play nice with other mediums (other than oil paints), unless firmly fixed. There is special paper artists use when working with oil pastels too. I am not a fan of oil pastels due to the this, and prefer gel crayons or wax “pastels”. Anyhow, I commend you for using them. I am a lot like you, in being left brain dominant, and highly introverted. Being alone is essential for us introverts to decompress and recharge after being in social situations. Being on the spectrum also necessitates me choosing isolation and my routines. Anyway, always like your videos and look forward to the next one.

Connie I was thinking lightening, in a purple blue night sky. I have used oil pastels, I lay the picture on a warming tray set to low temperature, it melts the oil pastels making blending a slight bit more fluid. It is not a medium that I take to easily. I venture into it only once in a while, I have the pentel 50 set, nothing special. I do enjoy watching your perspective in different mediums, you bring different ideas to the table. Thank you for sharing.

What a fun video! Good for you in experimenting with your mediums. I’ve never tried oils pastels. I’m thinking King Art gel crayons or Marabu art crayons may work great to create that marble effect. They can be used wet or dry and easily blend.
As a fellow introvert, agree that I love my alone time, but don’t feel lonely. I’ve pondered that one myself.
    Thanks for the great videos!
