    • @ironymatt

Matters of principle can never be determined by concensus. The referendums never should've happened, and I don't blame the clergy. Their involvement should more be as adviser to the civil authorities on a personal level rather than to grandstand. The politicians are elected because they're supposed to know better - and certainly many do - but to let such categorically unsound measures proceed is a political failing rather than a religious one.

Politics should be bedded in morality, good morality at that.
Abortion for example is a moral issue. The Church is fully entitled to speak on issues of morality even within the political sphere.
During post world war years, one German Cardinal said that if a German was starving they were entitled to steal food to keep body and soul together.
I think priests and the church are fully entitled to speak publicly on moral and ethical issues.

I admire your passion for life and see in it your grief at the slaughter of the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters, and your sadness for many of the women who feel it's their only option. I've counselled some of those women and I've seen at first hand the relief of those who chose to accept the help, material, emotional, psychological and practical that organisations like Gianna Care offer. Included in that help are those who have been traumatised by the violence of the act. They know that they will receive love and support and the opportunity to heal. I have never had to make that choice and I have nothing but compassion for those who have. There go I but for the grace of God.
But it's the normalisation of abortion as a 'right' and a 'choice' that is the greatest evil. Also the industrial scale of it that horrifies me.
    ,
Keep up the good work, Fr, it's fueled by love of God and His children.
I genuinely cannot understand Catholics who support abortion, and see it as a woman's right. I don't judge their hearts but I do wonder at their blindness in not seeing it for what it is: the killing of human beings and the degradation of humanityt: The right to life is the principle upon which all other hjuman rights' depend. Once that is taken away, hell follows

God bless you Father Brendan. We need this moral guidance, I sense as a very flawed human, that we have lost the sense of evil as a force in the West. Perhaps the fate of Western morality based on Christianity having survived dungeon, fire and sword, is facing anaesthetic challenge where debates can no longer be robust for fear of offence.

100% Fr. Brendan. The world is in the dark and sorry state it is today because people lost sight of what evil is and as such did not speak out loudly and consistently against it. You are correct; for better or worst politics infuses itself into ever aspect of our lives, whether or not we realise it, let alone acknowledge it. Abortion = MURDER, simple as. In my humble opinion, it should very much form part and parcel of what each and every good Priest has to say i.e. it's utter condemnation. God bless and protect you Fr. Brendan. @@patriciajohnson1894 I agree about abortion, but have an issue with the church's standing on gay people.
The church says we're all children of God, so by definition that includes gays who didn't choose to be born this way. Being attracted to the same sex is not an illness, you can't cure it or pray it away. Therefore it must mean that God created them for this way on purpose, whatever that purpose might be.
As far as I'm concerned they can marry who they wish, as long as it's another consenting adult, and they don't hurt anyone.
I'm against them having children though as it's not natural for two men or two women to procreate. Children need a mother and a father and nothing can replace that.

    You are spot on, father!
Priests absolutely need to be involved in politics! The reason why we are currently in a such terrible mess is (at least partially) caused by priests being silent and NOT involved in politics.
The main purpose of the Church is to provide spiritual and moral guidance to people, to the masses. To bond people and communities together and to work like a cement in the structure of the society. But the Church is terribly failing in this mission, it has become too comfortable, ecumenical and "nice". It doesn't offer either of these things and that's the reason why church attendance is dropping. Young people and especially young men don't want to attend old ladies Sunday gatherings.
The clergy and the laity need to man up and stand for their core principles. No matter how unpopular it will be and how many labels we earn.
As your, father, I am also dreading the political development in the United States. If the "progressives" remain in power, we will see dreadful inhumane things. They are already talking in their euphemistic newspeak about "post-natal abortion", which is essentially a murder, an infanticide. "Assisted departure" on demand = euthanasia, again plain murder. And this is only one part of the marxist / fascist / globalist agenda. There are terrible policies lurking just behind the corner. Economical, cultural, international, interracial, medical, ...

People lack a honesty about themselves. Truth is plain and simple. You have two options. Accept it or refuse it. But don't go to church pretending to be catholic and tell priest what they should or should not to say ( because it is offensive) you are either catholic or pro abortion, can't be both. You are either part of freemasonry or Catholic, can't be both. You are either communist or Catholic, can be both. So make up your mind and do not pretend. I am tired of this hypocrisy. We are all sinners but don't try do adjust truth to your sinful ways, rather seek the truth and conform to it.
