Father Columba, I was Baptised into the Catholic Church a few days ago at the Holy Saturday Easter Vigil. Watching your videos helped me along during the past year. Thank you for making these videos.
ST. TERESE OF AVILA: “It is a great grace of God to practice self-examination; but too much is as bad as too little. Believe me, by God’s help, we shall advance more by contemplating God than by keeping our eyes fixed on ourselves.”
I have been a Catholic all my life, I lost my way for quite a few years. I am 61 now and love my Catholic faith so much that I get teary-eyed thinking about God. I love your videos and look for them every day. You are a good man Father, God Bless you and keep you from all evil. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Just yesterday evening, a thought popped into my mind, to ask Jesus: “Will you be my guest tonight?… What may I offer you?” It was just a glimpse, followed by distractions, but I kept trying to get back to it, it felt so good, as if a door had suddenly unlocked.
I had taken My cross and medal with the Madonna of, and put it in a pocket. The video started and I reached in the pocket the necklace was all tangeld together. I first thought oh No as i often do when things go into knoths and i dont see a way out. Then i realized by the Grace of God that i then could listen to him because he was speaking, through this entagledment the necklace had created and the lessons I belivie was that as soon as I listende to the video and opened My heart for the peace and comfort of God i started to feel like the necklace almost like i didnt do anything made itself become back to order. Only by trying to listen to what Gods meaning was in that situation. Glory to God for doing these funny but beautiful lessons of life
Father, I watch you regularly my son Christopher called yesterday. His girlfriend broke up with him again and he doesn’t want to live. I’ve tried to give him help he’s going back to church but he is just in such a bad state. He’s so far for me. I am in Vermont and he is in Elpaso. Please pray for him.
Same here. I’ve had times when I even resorted to learning and saying my prayers in Greek or other foreign languages in order to keep focusing on what I was saying.
Try safely lighting a night light (in a glass) for short periods in the day. This is helping me focus my thoughts and ‘listen’ to the Holy Spirit. Blessings 🙏
Can whoever reads this say a prayer for mental health for all gods nations 🙏🏻. Praying for god fearing & self governing men & women. Amen Thank you! ☺️
I have noticed 'coincidences' as he talks about them. I have also caught 'coincidences' in the other direction as well. Openness to God also opens our eyes to the methods of the devil in some ways. It gets very interesting at times. ...though quite honestly I mostly find myself wandering in distraction too.
Thank you Father. I don't think that when someone pops into your mind when praying, and then you meet them is a coincidence, I think its God incident. Love the little nuggets of faith from you.
My prayers are for Catholics to break down barriers , my little church has lots of friendship and get togethers sadly a lot of catholics dont know how to love each other ,, its a command from God to love one and other. ..
Fr. Columba's advice sounds very simple when done ONCE. But to regularly apply it day to day is a different ordeal, and thats the beauty of always trying to remind ourselves daily to put ourselves in the presence of God, regardless of how our days go. I wish I can achieve this in my life. Thank you for reminding us this Fr. Praise be God!
I know what wgat you mean; this type of prayer is vastly different from just saying the words or even meditating, as you said. It's like the difference between sending the Lord a text or calling Him. ❤ Bless you father and all who help with making the videos.
I really loved your message, thank you. So open, honest. It's something that has been on my mind for a bit, to want to be open to hear from God, not just talk at Him. I look forward to hearing more from you. May He bless you with favor, knowledge and the wisdom to know what to do with it, although it sounds like you all ready have those things.🥰🙏
Thank you SO much, Brother! Countless times in Adoration or meditative prayer, I have felt like I should open myself to listening, and nothing comes, and I feel as if it's my fault somehow. I do get inspirations at times out of the blue, and infrequently in deep prayer. But, to just open myself whether or not He speaks and that's okay; well this is a warm and welcoming idea for me! Perhaps this is another meaning to the Scripture Passage, "Wait upon The Lord"... Praised be Jesus for sending this to me through you in perhaps due time, 3 weeks later in my feed!
I totally relate to what you're saying. I too often try to keep quiet internally to listen to the Lord (or at least I think I'm doing so), but I don't hear anything. And so I kind of feel like I might be doing something wrong. I want to keep this passage you mention in mind. God bless you!
Fr. Columba, thank you so much for choosing to share your faith with us via youtube. I am definitely in my feelings at the moment and needing the words you spoke. God, please speak to me.
Not kidding, woke up, i had a thought i should pray that god should talk more directly to me. Then i was thinking nah dont test your god, i open ip youtube to stretch in the morning and here we go this video was suggested first! God bless you my brother! ❤️
So beautifully and graciously put. This is true, in my humble experience. Listening with the ear of the heart is the key. You remind us also to expect to hear. An important attitude and subtle difference. Thanks, Fr. Columba.🙏❤️🙏
Thank you Fr. Columba for the beautiful words, I have always struggled in listening to our Lord, your words will certainly help me to have a more open heart😊
I've been making a Sacred Heart painting for over the fireplace. It's pretty big and oil paint so it's been going slow. I know He loves me to fuss over Him as well and make Him look as perfect as I can. Sometimes I hear Him say my name, and I know He wants me at the painting but not to paint. He could be anywhere, but He calls me there to just gaze at each other. His voice is very soft and simple. He's so adorable and loveable. And funny and always right. ❤❤❤😂😅
I have felt this way too, thank you for sharing. I will try just listening when I get that feeling again. "Come learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly." It's easy to be recpetive when you picture our Lord saying this to you 😍
It takes time and practice, so don't be discouraged! Recent Catholic convert or not so recent, we're all in this journey that is our faith with its ups and downs. So, keep it up! May God bless you, and welcome to our beautiful Catholic Church!
This was so very helpful. Thank you. I feel a reset in my soul and my relationship with God which is what I've been praying for for so long. It's so simple yet the concept was was evasive for me. Thank you. Thank you. God bless you.
Thank you for taking deep spiritual things and explaining them in ways that are so practical that I actually know what to go try to do and how. And you explain them so well I can show your videos to my kids and know they'll get something out of it, too. All your talks have really been so helpful to seeing real spiritual growth. Thank you
This has been what I am experiencing the past few weeks. Jesus, close, listen to Him (as Mary says). This quote is on my kitchen cabinet "Do not let your recollection or your union with God be disturbed. Even if Martha's work is weighing on you, always seek to preserve Mary's spirit of prayer. Even with all your external occupations you can pray and your heart can consistently rest in God." ~ Bl. Maria Theresia Seeking His sweet soft voice as I am going about my day, but also DOING those soft nudges He puts on my heart. THAT is my work. I struggle....I have a plan, or I am doing this..when I am done, then THAT will be next. Only, something comes along and keeps me distracted and I never get to it. Then the next day I realize it and, ugh. My daily journey to DO what He presses on my heart. Thank you for being His hands and feet and making this video. Again, He reminds me to seek Him and listen with my Heart.
That is a wise quote, dear soul. I think of it in this way: When Paul said to "pray at all times", he didn't mean to always say words, but rather, prayer is also being of a mind to expect Jesus [or Mary or other assigned Saints] at any time, and to keep The Lord in the background, so you can hear Him speak when He taps you on the shoulder [in whatever way that might be].
Father, hi! You pack so much in everything u say… thanks…. I am so excited to continue my prayers & being with others & listen!!!!! ( I have been really sad by all that’s going on and EXCITEMENT is truly a G R E A T gift!)
Prayer of the heart... One of the 5 stones that David used to Defeat Goliath. Living a Christian life, participate in the sacraments and accept the teachings of Christ and his Church.
Thank you for this tip. It's just what I needed right now in my prayer life. God bless you. I decided to turn you on for a minute as I prepare for the dinner rush. And you're the friend I really needed. God bless you

Welcome to the Catholic Church! May God bless you super abundantly!🙏🙏
May God bless you richly ❤ Hooray for saying yes to God!!!
Yay that’s so exciting! Congratulations 😊
Welcome to the family!
May God bless you greatly!
You will never know how your vids help us all to be better Catholics, Christians, people. Bless you, Father.
Praise God.
Not never, friend.
Totally agree - profoundly helpful.
I like how you can teach without preaching. Your gentle approach.

Love this quote ❤️ 👏
And where is Saint Teresa now? Nowhere, nothing.
Have you heard the artist Nothing.Nowhere?

Thanks, I needed that! St Teresa of Avila is one of the saints I pray to (semi) regularly.

Bless you Father! Thank you always for your teaching and sharing helpful personal experiences; as we can relate so well with these.
Good man...
Just yesterday evening, a thought popped into my mind, to ask Jesus: “Will you be my guest tonight?… What may I offer you?”
It was just a glimpse, followed by distractions, but I kept trying to get back to it, it felt so good, as if a door had suddenly unlocked.
Did He answer you?

Praying for you both too
Praying
@annem2922 thankyou
Have masses said for your son and pray the rosary for him daily. Ask him to pray the rosary too, go to confession and attend Mass and adoration.
Thank you! I will now listen while doing the rosary 📿
I'm Presbyterian, but I'm loving these YT Catholic priests.
#Wholesome God bless.
Little tweaks like this make a big difference! Thanks for sharing Fr. Columba!
Thank you, I have ADHD and its so hard for me to focus. But looking at it as surrendering really changes everything.
Same here. I’ve had times when I even resorted to learning and saying my prayers in Greek or other foreign languages in order to keep focusing on what I was saying.
Interesting. Similar on both.
ADD here. Once I memorise prayers in Latin I drift off anyway. Need more focusing/challenging again to focus
Try safely lighting a night light (in a glass) for short periods in the day. This is helping me focus my thoughts and ‘listen’ to the Holy Spirit. Blessings 🙏
Quote: "It's amazing how many coincidences happen when we pray." 💯
🙏❤️❤️❤️😇AMEN
Hi Father.... Bless us and bless you...
I will always let God speak to me. Or, since He does not require my permission, I will always try to listen.

Thank you Father Columba ☘

Love this, because yes He is with us during all conversations!
I was literally wondering today how can I better listen to God and this video popped up 🙏🏻
My prayers are for Catholics to break down barriers , my little church has lots of friendship and get togethers sadly a lot of catholics dont know how to love each other ,, its a command from God to love one and other. ..
Thanks for this good speech. It’s our hardest work to listen God not ourselves

Hi Fr Columba. Hoping to get a blessing from you in Gods Cottage in July. God Bless Adrian
Very very helpful and a wonderfully insightful recommendation. Thank you Father.

“Helpful”… silly autocorrect cutting works at the last second 😆
Wow ❤God is always on time , before time . I know how you feel , I feel the same way . Yes. Amen.
I have a really hard time hearing God when I'm in prayer and meditation. Especially at this point in my life as a baby Catholic, new to the faith
It takes practice
It takes time and practice, so don't be discouraged! Recent Catholic convert or not so recent, we're all in this journey that is our faith with its ups and downs. So, keep it up! May God bless you, and welcome to our beautiful Catholic Church!
Thank you for being an instrument of His love!
Another video that feels like it's directed to me. Lots of gratitude 🙏
Jesus loves you and is with you forever
This was a beautiful and finely nuanced message - it has opened a new way to experience God - thank you for sharing 🌿
This was so very helpful. Thank you. I feel a reset in my soul and my relationship with God which is what I've been praying for for so long. It's so simple yet the concept was was evasive for me. Thank you. Thank you. God bless you.
Priests, religious. Bishops, this ministers of the church are so beautiful… The blind lady.
Know God through his Word. His will, his character, his heart.
Thank you, father! Very helpful!
Father Columba offers valid words on many of his things. Listening to the voice of God within our hearts is a major one.
Thanks Father, that’s helpful for today
Beautiful, This is the second time recently I have come across the importance of listening in prayer.
Prayer being about listening and receiving. 🙏❤️
True meditation, prayer sometimes need not be said, just be fully in his presence and not speak even in our minds. Just be still and know he is
thank you for the simple but compelling and actionable advice.
Came upon this. Meant to be. Thank you Father. I will try this. God bless you and Mary protect you and guide you.
amen

As a priest I can attest that this is sound . I wish father you were closer to Louisiana lol cause I would ask you to be my spiritual director
Attitude of openness and surrender and receptivity 🙏🏻❤️
❤ amen
If my mind is crowded, I say let go, let God. Simple, and it puts me in a space of openness, ease, like a child before my mind became crowded.
I prayed for you Father.. Hiw wonderfull our lord works, to make make me pray. Take care dear friend!
That was wise. What is God saying in this conversation? Wow
Jesus Jesus Jesus 🙏❤️😊
Thank you fr for this video
Hold onto what is good! Thank you it was helpful,
