Peenemünde

Peenemünde Army Research Center was established in the mid-1930's on the island of Usedom in the north of Germany by the Nazi Regime under Adolf Hitler. The research and development center was built in record time from 1936 - 1938, and was continually used until the end of World War II - although the base was bombed by the Allies in August 1943 and again in 1944, it was never abandoned by the Germans (they dispersed production of the V1 "Flying Bomb" and V2 rockets to other locations, such as Nordhausen in the Harz Mountains). Peenemünde was where very advanced weapon systems and aviation technology was developed leading up to and during the war. This video shows some rare footage (provided by USAF captured German films) of the Schmetterling ("Butterfly"), Fritz X (Guide Bomb), Rheinbote, and other German wartime projects.
