Esther, I absolutely love the piano music in the background of this video. It is so peaceful and calming and so is your voice. It’s so easy to listen to you talk. I just wanted to tell you that the moon and stars watermelon is absolutely delicious, they can get pretty good size so keep an eye on them, but it is so yummy; you will love it. Thanks as always for a very informative video!
Esther I tune in to you when I'm feeling a bit lonely in the garden or am not feeling great about it (circumstances, ugh). Your videos let me hang out with another gardener and so hopefully this isn't pathetic or creepy--but I consider you a gardening friend! Doing a couple of jugs this afternoon, may have overheated some yesterday! Immediately spritzed well with coolish water & moved into shade but will have to see... Thank you!
I am in zone 8a. I have already planted out my radishes, celery, cilantro, lettuce, comfrey, dandelion and Asian cabbage. I will winter sow more summer veggies next week. So far, I have cut all of the greens four or five times for daily meals. Delicious!!
we used to live in Silver Spring, but moved in 2020. Living in zone 8a (although I think we haven't really changed that much so I'm sticking with 7B- HA!). We sowed 6 more jugs this weekend. Have you ever WS coleus? My goal is to get all my container plantings from seed this year. Thanks all the updates. :). love your videos. That weed eater is gonna be so much fun this summer!!!
I always thought you had to winter plant in February! I’m planting a couple jugs now (3/11/24). Maybe celery and some peppers. Some flowers. I saved about a million zinnia seeds last fall 😮
Oh and another thing I screwed up on with my WS this week: in two (maybe three?) jugs seeds are coming up but not labeled! Aagh! Not inside or outside (like you I cut plastic into strips for labels). Can't believe I did that. I will have to see if my trustee garden marker can be unearthed from the Disaster Closet!
Absolutely love your enthusiasm and devotion to wintersowing. Has fed my own addiction. Music is unnecessary to your presentation though and distracting to my ADD.
So much fun and so exciting! Gardeners are eternally optimistic! My tomatoes did horrible last year. I made sure I had blight resistant varieties this time!
I keep adding to my winter sowing collection too. I actually went ahead and moved some of my bok choy seedlings into my garden since they can take a little cold anyhow. Most of my 1st round of winter sown plants have already started and are growing well too! Can't wait to see how all of yours turn out too! :)
Spent all morning re-potting all of my winter sown vegetables. So far they are looking great! Thank you for all of your instructional videos. This year was my first year winter sowing and second year gardening in general. I'm in zone 9A.
Fun to see what you're doing at the moment. Glad to see you sowing tomato / peppers, which other sites say are "no good" for winter sowing. Nice front garden at the end! (I have lots of spring bulbs too, and am thrilled to see the crocus emerge and daffodils starting in northern NJ.)
Logged into RUclips hoping for a new video from Esther's Garden and there it is uploaded ten minutes ago! :D Happy Sunday Esther! Your winter sown seeds are looking great! :D
Thanks Esther, You're making great progress with your winter sowing! I have one request or recommendation for you. Regarding background music, please consider cutting it entirely or keeping it very faint. I want to hear your comments rather than listen to music. When I cut it way down, you were hard to hear. Thanks for considering and thanks for your winter sowing encouragement!
Esther, when is your last frost date? I looked and MD can be 4/21 to 5/10. I’m 5/12 in WI and I also want to experiment with the difference between WS and indoor. I didn’t keep track very well last year as a late freak frost decimated most plants. I would like to start many of the flowers that say 6-8 weeks before last frost and we are on week 9 right now. Is that the timing you are using that’s on the back of seed packets? We had up to 70+ days and then we dive back down like this weekend in low 40s and 30s. Next 2 days back to 60s then back to 30-40s. It gets confusing because if the WS does sprout in these abnormal warm days I will need to heat the GH as our nights still can get in 20s. Sorry but the weather is confusing me on how to handle WS. Last year was a bit less warm and many died and this year is warmer still. I only have a few WS on the east side of building and they are staying cool enough and will place in sun once we get closer to spring. Trying to prevent early germination as we could still get very cold.
I wish I’d seen your video BEFORE I tried winter sowing for the first time. I put way too many seeds in my jugs. Do you think I should thin them? And I didn’t realize you can start warm weather crops this way. I might try that! With fewer seeds 🤦♀️ this time
I can't even in good conscience call it winter sowing anymore, my temperatures have been so high since early February that everything has exploded out of their jugs. 😂
I live in a much colder zone than you, our nights are well below freezing. Should I start tomatoes now in winter sowing, or wait another month? I am in zone 3b in Ontario Canada.
I am in zone 4 northern MI. My last frost is about a week into June. I haven't even started my jugs yet. We have lows of about 10°F this week. You can start cool season crops soon I would think.
Yulia at YGarden starts her bottles in Feb and they are out in snow and rain. She's in NJ. Also Kevin at Garden for the House, in upper New York state starts his in Feb. I guess the seeds just stay in the cold longer. How much time is necessary for cold stratification?
How long does it normally take, in your zone, to see tomatoes sprouting? I’m seeing nothing and wondering if it’s a fail or if I need to be more patient.

Esther’s voice draws you in. She’s my favorite to watch.

👋 Hi Esther, I just found your channel. I growing Zinnias and you showed up on the search. Great video. Thank you. Happy Gardening.
Esther I love your enthusiasm. It's infectious! I'm in zone 5 so I'm waiting another 3-4 weeks, but gathering everything together.

Ditto on the “blue” flowers. Sometimes the companies will even tint the picture in the catalog to make the flowers appear a little bluer. 😂
Yes. So true.

Glad to see you using Hudson Valley seeds. Local for me. I am in upstate NY.
The winter sowing is so cool. Happy sowing 🌱🌱

I love your hacks, they are so resourceful. I will be using that idea. Thanks again Ester, take care 😊
Glad you like them! Thank you!
I love the piano. ❤️ Very relaxing.
Glad you like it! Thank you!
😂 “he doesn’t help me and I don’t want him in my space…” Sooo relatable! 😁 I love the interest from the fam though too.
Absolutely love your enthusiasm and devotion to wintersowing.

I’m so glad I watched this, you reminded me to save my yogurt containers 😊 your garden will be bursting at the seams!!! Peace and love my friend ❤

I love a good garden experiment - excited to see how you pepper experiment goes!
Love your channel, Esther. Can't wait to see your garden later in the spring! 😊
At what point do you remove or open up the jug after winter sewing your crop?
A few days before you are planning on transplanting the seedlings as a general rule
Is us 3/10. Love your videos. My WS perennials flowers and herbs are germinating like crazy. Covering them at night. Down to 31 last night.

Yay! Happy Sunday! Thank you!
I watched one of your videos earlier today. .. by 2pm I'm potting soil in milk jugs. .. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 thank you. .. wish me luck new subbie

OK thanks for the feedback. I never know how loud to set it or how distracting it can be.
I enjoy your channel. Thank you for encouraging me 😊❤❤❤

It's supposed to be in April but I've always seen a frost happen in early May here
Thank you Esther. Happy growing !

I’m from the Hudson Valley. You should visit.
Oh nice!
I’m in zone in 5. So , I can’t due tomatoes yet
Yes they can be winter sown now for you. The seeds will stay dormant until it warms up enough for them to sprout.
@@EsthersGardeningAdventures ok, I’ll give it a try
Thx for sharing with us! Have you grown "lemon spinach?"
Not yet! Sounds interesting though. Are you trying it this year?
@@EsthersGardeningAdventures I have to find the seeds first - supposed to be a perennial.

Give it more time. Be patient. The seeds will sprout when the weather gets warm enough as long as the soil is kept moist and the jugs are in the sun.
Ok…patience it is!! Thanks so much!
Do you make tomato sauce and if you do do you have a good recipe you can share ? 🪻💚🙃
I am adding a comment I hope is constructive! You are more than interesting enough, the music was distracting. Just IMO!!
I think the same about just about every video that has music. I want to hear what you have to say. 💕
Plus the music ALWAYS seems to be louder than the person talking.
