    Piano skids are used for moving pianos including up and down stairs. The skid is a secure base, straps are attached to the skid and the piano is then placed on a dolly. This one in particular is made for Grand pianos. Grand piano lengths varies from 4- 1/2' to 9- 1/2' and weigh 500-1200 lbs.

    You bring back memories to me. I have helped move many pianos when I was in my twenties, all the way up to a grand piano once. That was a scary move. long story :>) welcome back, you've been missed.

    Jack, I can't help thinking that putting such a sensitive piece of equipment such as a grande piano on what looks like an elevated outdoor platform seems utter madness.

    • @Jacka440

    I was delighted to find your plans for the skid board. So I printed the cad drawing you have on the build article and built my skid according to the drawing. After several hours of work and completing my board I discovered that the drawing is backward with the wide part on the wrong side.... and so is my board. Tomorrow I will disassemble and correct it. Wish I hadn't used all that glue! Thanks for the dimensions anyway (y)

    Good little video only two small problems , one that’s not a grand piano that’s called a petite grand the smallest piano made . Secondly there are no straps on the skid board so how do you lift the piano attached to the skid board to place the dolly underneath ? Craftsmanship is very well done and I do like how he thought of including a pull strap that’s long enough to lift with . A- nice job for sure just wanted to point those two main factors out

  • @brianw6814
    @brianw6814 6 лет назад

    Very informative. Thanks. I'm a little confused by the width dimensions though. If the one end is 11 1/2", adding another 2x4 to increase the width at the other end would seem to make the other end 11 1/2" + 3 1/2" = 15". I am not a woodworker though, so I must be missing something.

      I take it that once they had cleared the stairs and were on the porch deck it was level moving and we'd seen that so Jack quit filming, though I wondered about where the door was myself but assumed the deck wrapped around the corner.

    I am assuming one puts put zero cost on their time. And one has a fully equipped woodworking workshop equipped with industrial power and hand tools. Not to mention the time and expense of acquiring all components such as lumber, carpet, and fasteners.
    Now look at the cost of simply ordering a skidboard from a mover's supply house.

    That is not marine plywood. Why do you piano guys have to hype your craft, like "re-bronzing" a harp frame, which is a liar's term for spraying paint. Go look up what is marine plywood. Sinner repent.
