Thanks for the video I like and appreciate your honesty about being your first time moving a baby grand; I always learn from anyone regardless of experience, and I have learned from you and have developed a can-do attitude. Thanks a lot
Thank you bud🙏 I’m moving a baby grand piano tomorrow and a 4 bedroom home with a 3 man crew, and this video right here give me confidence that I could do it. Wish me luck🤞. I’ll let you know tomorrow evening how it went thank you for taking your time to put up this video really helps me out brother
Don't EVER rely upon the "assumed" strength of the pedal lyre to take the weight of the piano for the initial rotation. The damage that may incur would cost you way more than the fee of moving.
Appreciate the feedback, this was the first time moving a baby grand so it’s always good to see where I can improve. As you mentioned, it is important to weight the risk vs reward ratio especially on belongings such as this piano.
Ha thanks for the comment! I put pads inside out on anything that is fragile such as glass, TVs, mirrors and anything that needs special consideration such as this piano.
Just a tip to make it easier on yourself. When you are rotating the piano off the grand board when you are setting it up, flip your back leg caster up, this will allow the caster to work with you on the rotation. Having it down like it was in the video it will not allow you to rotate as far or as easily and will try to flip on you.
Textbook example of how not to move a baby grand. You jeopardized the lyre. You damaged the leg. You likely bent the hinges on the lid by not having a piano board.
I watched to see how you got it up the uhaul ramp because I have to get ours out of storage and there's no angles I can use to benefit me on the ramp angle so it is what it is. We're looking at around 600lbs and my brother and I couldn't do it. I could possibly get two more people but it still seems sketchy and would hate to spend all the money to go try and not be able to do it. We had like 5 mormon kids help us get it in the uhaul the first time and 2 or 3 to get it down the ramp but it was super sketchy.
Ya man sometimes stuff with a lot of weight can be super sketchy going up the ramp. Love to have a lift gate when possible but if not the more hands the better!
You lay some pads triangle position on the piano board, take the liar/pedals off next step take the 3rd leg off next step remove the other legs,so you the piano is flat with the piano board
Hey buddy, thanks for the video. How hard was it moving it dow the stairs? Is it manageable with two people? I'm looking to buy one but I cant afford the moving fee.
This was the first baby grand I have moved and there were not many stairs leaving or entering the house making it fairly simple. Depending on how many stairs you will need to move and how confident you feel in your skill/ strength level it may be best to pay someone else to move it.
Appreciate your input, we put light blue side out on things to indicate they are fragile or need extra care. Have not had one issue using it either way. We use high quality blankets as well.
