As our last adventure in Arizona, Julie and I decided to check out the beautiful Instagram famous Antelope Canyon in Page, AZ, right on the edge of Lake Powell. We did some research and found out that you cant view the canyon on your own, but instead employ the services of a local tour guide to take you through one of two designated trails on either the lower or upper section of the canyon. And more importantly, dogs are not allowed. Given that the tour companies charge anywhere from $55 for a half mile hour long tour to almost $200 for a full day tour, in which you’re herded through the canyon like cattle with 20 other people breathing down your neck, we decided to figure out a better option.
Well, a much more difficult and strenuous option to be honest, but one that turned our journey into another wild adventure fully equipped with kayaks, backpacking gear, and dogs.
FULL DISCLOSURE: if you dont own your own form of water transportation, this wont be free for you!
Come along with us as we struggle to stay afloat on the rough waters of Lake Powell, avoid a summer monsoon in a slot canyon, and camp overnight on the sandy beach. We’ll show you the ins and outs of sneaking into Antelope Canyon, for free! With dogs! Don’t worry, it’s legal!
A huge thanks to all our patrons and one time donors who made this video possible!!!

I’ve been following your channel for several years and it’s been so fun to watch all your adventures and see things evolve. I love that you both have the most hilarious sense of humor, deep heart and adventurous spirit. Can’t wait to see where you guys go next and what you’ll create. Thanks for all the hard work that I’m sure goes into your channel ❤
Couldn’t agree more.
Thanks so much for the encouragement! Keeping the channel alive can be pretty difficult at times, but the adventures themselves we would still do either way:) Glad you're enjoying the content!
You guys are so much fun. The creativity you both have is amazing! Can wait for the next adventure! Cheers!
Totally agree.
Thanks so much for saying! We keep each other laughing, and when it's tough, the dogs keep us laughing too lol
That cantaloupe suprise!! The doggie commentary/illustrations, and the hanger 😂😂...I love it.
Thanks for another great video
The dogs in their bandanas stole the show:)
This was fun! Loved the masks on the dogs! 😊
They really made the ending of the video haha
First time I've heard of a hike planned around an alliteration. Bravo!!!
Haha we're big on firsts
Ben and Julie, love you and your adventures! Yes, ❤ the stressful type 2 journey when tempered with love and patience, such as which you share, has it's true reward of total happiness! Aaannnd, I much prefer your photos!! Oh my gosh, the trials you experienced! Thankyou for taking us along ❤ I loved it all !! 🐞🇦🇺
Thanks so much Trudi:) We definitely trade off who has more patience in the moment, but it always works out in the end! Nobody harmed, lots of good laughs
Brilliant stuff as usual! Of course, I'm only watching for the dogs😀 That melon was a great idea on many levels but glad I wasn't carrying it. Generally, I avoid all the "best" places, preferring to find my own angle and without the crowds. Looking forward to the next episode, where I learn life has got easier dollar wise for you.👍
Yes even if someone can send $5. Everything counts esp when starting over. Reli’s fur is special. I don’t think I’ve seen another dog with that type of fur. Like some salon took hours to gel pieces together but really soft. The way it blows in the wind! And Rocky’s facial expressions are priceless. Amazing the fur babies are up for everything just like their, um, skinparents.😅
Haha the dogs are the real talent here, we all know it! But yes we generally like to get off the beaten path and find something new:)
It's like Reli is wrapped in Velcro. Everytime he goes outside he brings back additional travellers for the van (sticks, sand, ants, caterpillars, etc). He has to be shaken out like a rug haha we actually just gave him a terrible DIY haircut because summer time is rough on him
I love sharing your adventures vicariously with you. I think it's fantastic how much you truly care about your doggos to always bring them with you on your explorations.
Julie you are a genuine beauty inside & out. Don't waste your time comparing yourself to anyone.
The mustache is growing on me Ben. The whiskers help knock down the p*rn star vibes.
Julie can do everything from what I’ve seen. She’s just dynamic with an incredible heart, intelligence, and to top it off, stunning. We all see it eh? Bens safe from the PS vibes unless he tries a mullet. And I’m afraid this just gave him an idea he’d do just for the fun, lol. Such an awesome couple!
Thank you so much for your kind words! The dogs really are our family and there is very very little we would do without them. They make it all more entertaining too:) The mustache is still here so far haha we'll see how long it lasts
Haha the mullet would be a serious dedication. Thanks for your support:) You guys mean the world to us!
It’s all about the journey, even if the goal is to get an amazing photo.
There’s just something about going through some sucky times on your way that make the end goal that much more worth it.
As always, great stuff!
Definitely! The struggle always seems to give you (and the adventure) more character:)
You didn't even care about the camera equipment on that kayak ride did you? You were really just afraid you'd lose the cantaloupe.
Cantaloupes are darned expensive! 😂
Hahaha
Camera equipment can always be replaced. That canteloupe was one of a kind. And so worth it
I really appreciate how modest and grateful you are abt buying kayaks with donor money.
PATREON. Boom.
Yeah it's really how we're able to keep making content. Everyone's support is keeping us going!
What an excellent adventure! This was an absolute pleasure to watch, and I'd rather see your photos than the tour ones, anytime. I love the canteloupe in antelope canyon part! 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for sharing all your "type 2" adventures with us! ❤❤❤
We appreciate you watching! It makes the not so "fun" moments worth it haha
Had a wonderful time. Thank you
Thanks for joining us:)
First view… watching now!
I love all four of you. These videos bring me so much joy.
Don’t they?
We're love that you're enjoying the new content! Thanks for the support!
Such a great video! Totally agree level 2 adventures that are best when reflecting back. Just jointed your Patron community to support your content and efforts on these adventures. Delightful humor in dog burglar masks and melon alliteration. Count me in!!!
Yay Patreon!
Wow thanks so much for joining the Patreon! It means the world to us that you enjoy the content and want to support. We appreciate it so much!
You guys did an amazing job on keeping the video fun and interesting. Now I wanna go to the Antelope Canyon. I am here more than 10 years and never been there.
Do it!
It's a lot easier Im sure without the dogs haha but it was a fun time!
I like your pics as well or more than the tour ones
Love the cantaloupe in the Antelope!! Haha
You guys are so cute. I love the end 😂
Yeah we thought we'd include that little mask wearing gem as a bonus for those willing to watch the whole video so thanks for making it all the way through!
Keep doin' what you're doin', you're on the right path.
Solving the RUclips puzzle while being authentic, entertaining, humorous…. These guys are great, huh?
You guys are the cutest!!!! Couldn’t stop smiling ❤
Haha thanks so much for watching and supporting:)
❤ 😂 niiice ! yeah, some old school boombap
Great video, love the honesty. I could see you guys with a regular show. I love the mask on the dog at the end.
The dogs at the end are the real gems in this video haha thanks for the support!
Cantalope for the win!
It was surprisingly delicious
Great video! As always. :)
Thanks for the encouragement:)
Couple of days ago we were trying to remember where we’d heard the whole ‘Type 1/Type 2’ fun thing! Then watched this and, there it was! We now refer to everything we do in this way! Great video. Glad you all survived intact to tell the tale 😎
The algorithm heard you haha
@@dogcatmanvan Haha! Good one!
You guys are so funny. You make me smile.
Thanks for watching!
I want an Out There mask!!!!
They were quite difficult to wear and see out of haha some good ol homemade props
You did your job very well and I am always rolling with laugher watching your videos no matter how good or bad my day might be. I feel your struggles though having two dogs myself they can be lets say "entertaining" some of the time haha. But they are worth the struggles when you get to snuggles in the evening. Thanks for braving this trip and making good content.
We agree, at the end of the day they are always worth having around and they make our adventures more difficult but also more memorable haha thanks for following along!
really interesting video again as expected! thanks and keep up the good work! hoping for the next great adventure
We're glad to have you tune in and follow along. Thanks so much!
Love it 😃. Your photos were great x
gotta love blue heelers lol
They're a handful!
I'm thinking some sort of inflatable dog jacket pool float thingie, so you can tow the little devils behind the kayak? After all, no sharks, right? The sandstone formations look amazing despite the lighting. In fact it looked more inviting in natural circs. The morning light was gorgeous! And the Instagram photos looked faked next to yours.
Haha exactly we need Rocky in his own personal water craft! Maybe we'll have to develop this idea further. Thanks for the support:)
You guys rock! Awesome content! 🤘🏼
Agreed.
Thanks!
That’s awesome! We gotta do what we can no matter the amount until these guys blow up. And if people would just comment. And if so inclined just scooch down the line and like all the comments. Or just talk to some random stranger about the video or peanut butter and banana sammiches?!
Haha yesss pb and banana is a great way to start a conversation
Thanks for the love Brian!
I cannot believe you carried that !!
worth every ounce
👍👍👍👍
This is so fun!
Cool masks , great art work, glad the cracken didn’t get you
Masks merch???? I want one!
It was a close call with the sea monster
Keep doing what you do, earned a new consistent subscriber today with this video :) I'll be sure to do my part and throw a like on too!
That's awesome! We don't get a whole lot of new viewers so we're stoked to see you've jumped on board with the channel!
HEEEELLLLLL YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHH
We love the enthusiasm:)
So you make your living shooting these videos but you can’t help pay for maintenance of the park? Perhaps you should pursue children’s photos?
Hi there, we actually paid $30 to park at the marina, which goes to the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Of the $100-200 we would have paid for a guided tour, only $8 goes to the Navajo Nation, the rest goes to a for-profit private tour company. We also spent $35 just to drive through the Grand Canyon National Park to get to Antelope, and we spent $55 on an annual fishing license which goes to Arizona Wildlife Management and Fish and Game. This month we only made $300 on RUclips, so we actually spent 40% of our income on supporting Arizona's parks and rec, which I imagine is more than most people do. But if you have a lucrative job for us taking children's portraits, please email us directly, as we are always looking for new income sources!
Daaaaaamn
@@dogcatmanvan - from your initial commentary when you were talking about not paying the $100.00-$200.00 fee, you kind of made it sound like you were getting over on the park service! The comment about children’s portraits was because if you were not going to help pay for the upkeep of the park’s you use to make your living then you’ve got no business being there in the first place! Have a good day!
@@jongray4828 Have you watched their channel before? They always give back even when they’re struggling themselves. They show wonderful things to do, show people new places, and educate at the same time. They entertain and make everything extra creative and funny. They have great respect for every place they visit. I’ve been watching from the start for years and they are amazing people. Please don’t judge from one video.
@@phoenixgirl70 - this was the first video I’ve watched of theirs and that was the impression I was left with. They have since explained themselves.
