    I love The Lark Ascending, I have it against fence panels at the back of a deep border, Woolerton Old Hall to its left, Darcey Bussell in front, which I have to admit has never disappointed me, ok the black spot is a bit of nuisance towards the end of the season but it’s a beauty.

    You are an inspiration to create a cottage garden with either the same or similar roses. I loved them all in your video. I will look for the individual videos for each to learn more. The space I have in my my garden gets about five hours of morning sun every day. The rest of the day is shaded by trees.

    WOW , you have a 100 DA roses. You practically have a library of those roses. I was wondering why Jubilee celebration did not make it to this. It is so dreamy. Maybe you will have it on the "romantic" category (hint). Is there a possibility that you could review Brother Cadfael?

    • @the_gardenerben
      @the_gardenerben  2 года назад +1

      I actually have 100 varieties of David Austin spanning something in the region of 130 plants I did have Brother Cadfael at one point but it’s since been removed from my collection it is incredibly beautiful the fragrance is stunning but it’s very weak and for me produced very few blooms I considered It to be a gateway plant susceptible to black spot mould and mildew it always seem to go down with these issues first and then spread it to other plants in the garden so it was removed

    Munstead Wood, Desdemona & Claire Austin are in my next month to buy list. Tess head turning red almost made into the list too but its slight fragrant caused me to cross it out.
    Would you make video about the Austin's family rose? Claire, Pat, James L. Austin etc.?

    • @the_gardenerben
      @the_gardenerben  2 года назад +2

      Before you cross Tess off the list completely if you see it in a garden centre or in another persons garden do take a look at it every body experiences fragrance differently and you might find to your nose but it’s very strong especially if you plant in a warm situation or the south or west facing wall

      I'm in the USA. They just started allowing purchasing of roses on Tuesday. I had Jude the Obscure on my wish list. Jude was sold out by Thursday. Wednesday they sent me a notification The Lark Ascending was available so I hurried and got it before it to became unavailable. If you're in the US go now to the US site. If you're in the UK go to their site and make an account and see if they have a wish list you can add roses to. Then, when the rose becomes available you can get it. Hope this info helps. Just don't wait if you really want one.

    Hello Ben. I have a question: I am thinking of using Lady of Shallot climbing rose to try to get it to grow around a 7 foot arch. I’m in zone 7a & the arch would be in sun 6 hours per day. I already have a Lady of Shallot in shrub form that is doing fantastically well! The DA people recommended either Claire Austin or Strawberry Hill for a standard arch in my zone but I don’t want a bare root & no garden centers around here have Claire or Strawberry. My garden center does have LofS as a climber. Do you think it would work around a standard arch?
    Please advise. Thanks!

    thank you for that, Id be keen to hear how long blooms last before they ‘shatter’. Helpmefind is the ultimate encyclopaedia for rosarians but they have a rating for everything on their rating chart except bloom life. At the minute Im struggling with Tantaus Camelot, lovely flowers, vigorous growth but 95% of the plant is growth with a miserable show of flowers that shatter after about three or four days and thats in a near perfect rose location/ temperature/ shelter etc. A painful disappointment to waste three years to find out the plant is a waste of space.

    • @the_gardenerben
      @the_gardenerben  Год назад +1

      The problem with the length of time bloom lasts is, it is dependent on far too many factors for anybody to give you a clear answer on it if a flower opens, and is the very next minute visited by a pollinator as far as the plant is concerned, the flower is done. The petals will drop if you live somewhere where there isn’t particularly much to be foraged. As far as a pollinator is concerned your blooms won’t last very long, if it is particularly hot This will also affect bloom lifetime.

  • @jjjddd231
    @jjjddd231 2 года назад

    For me, a variety with drooping flowers is simply unacceptable in a bush rose as I do not want to be looking at the underside of the flower. For that very reason, I removed Jubilee Celebration from my garden even though it was almost an ideal rose in every other aspect. Interestingly, I do not have that problem with Olivia Rose Austin in my South Australian climate where its flowers are held upright. It's different when it comes to climbing roses, as the nodding can be a plus when you're looking up at the flowers.

    • @the_gardenerben
      @the_gardenerben  2 года назад +1

      I can totally and understand your point but sometimes it’s just a characteristic of the Rose I have a Jubilee celebration planted in a large galvanised bath it’s around 2 1/2 feet from the floor to buy a time at flowers it reaches over 6 feet so I’m looking up at it all the time

    • @the_gardenerben

      I’ve personally filmed 115 individual rose reviews. The idea of these personal collections is to showcase roses with very similar qualities and attributes. It would be absolutely impossible to show each of these in any more detail which is why in each individual video that is like this, I suggest if your attention is caught by particular variety that you take the time to seek out is individual and personal Rose review
      I’m terribly sorry that the media produced for free disappoints you !

      I disagree! After looking at *hundreds* of videos by many different gardeners, I ❤ the way Gardener Ben does it is. His are information filled, packed with beautiful close up photos & good advice. Of course, one wants to know the rose's habit, but there are other ways to find that out.

    • @romilly99
      @romilly99 26 дней назад

      Surely it's not a question of being "impressive" but more about the depth of knowledge, passion, and advice? There are hundreds of videos out there where roses are shown in a garden, but they can be very deceptive. All plants behave slightly differently in different settings, whether it's because of the climate, the soil, where you put them, how you look after them, and so on. It also, in my (professional) experience makes many viewers want to rush out and instantly replicate what they see, and that frequently goes badly wrong. I've lost count of how many times I've been asked (told) to "Make me that." They then get really cross when you tell them it won't work for THEM because of a, b, or c. I just happened upon these videos and find them fascinating and very well done.
