My theory is that Earth 12 is the earth of the alternate timeline created by Chronos in the JLU episode "The Once and Future Thing." The changes made to the past and future by Chronos could've had butterfly effects that slightly altered things, making this universe very similar to the original DCAU timeline. That's gonna be my headcanon from now on.
@@thedemon0843 No, what it means is that they were lazy. As a writer myself, I can confirm. And people wonder why Avatar: The Last Airbender is considered much better than the DCAU. The writers there never looked at continuity in that show, the biggest possible strength you could have if done well, as a burden, but something that is the biggest possible strength you could have if done well. It just requires excellence and most writers are ashamed to admit they're not as good as they want others to believe.
@@bashengatheblackmanta7003 I would personally just like a full on, massive scale reunion of the JL/JLU cast movie, put then all on some random island against a super strong big bad that requires the entire og 7 to beat them with cameos of heroes and villains also from the dcau, similar to JLU's big action scenes except on a much larger scale with it hopefully being theatrical (similar to phantasm).
I think the main issue and source of confusion is DC REALLY wants Terry to be tied to the main DCU universe in some capacity due to his popularity but it conflicts with the DCAU timeline for it to ever not confuse people.
It's possible that only a select amount of the DCAU is canon to Earth-12, with only certain episodes occurring as they were originally depicted, while other aspects differ. Of course, it's also possible (though possibly controversial) that the DCAU is a somewhat misconstrued account of Earth-12's history - sorta like how "Star Trek: The Animated Series" is regarded by particular Trekkies as an exaggerated depiction of the official canon rather than a straight-up portrayal.
Ok, no TV series I'm currently watching comes even CLOSE to getting me as hooked as this new Watchtower Database event! I can't wait to see how this will unfold!

I think the long and short of it was multiple writers for the comics, each having different ideas on how their stories fit into the DCAU, but it would appear they didn’t consult each other or in some cases do their research into the shows properly.
So was that James's dad? And yeah I always figured earth 12 wasn't the dcau but a slightly altered version of it because hey, there is an infinite number of earths in the multiverse and why can't 2 earths be extremely similar but also quite the same :-)
Not sure if someone's brought it up in the comments already, but there's another major divergence between DCAU canon and Earth-12 canon. In an episode of Batman Beyond, Barbara mentions that Dick moved to Blüdhaven after he found out about Barbara and Bruce's relationship (ugh), and in ROTJ, she states that he was already living in Blüdhaven when Tim was kidnapped by the Joker. However, the Batman Beyond 2.0 book has Dick finding out about Bruce and Babs' relationship (once again, ugh) AFTER the events of the ROTJ flashbacks. I tend to think of Earth-12 as the "All-Star Superman" type version of the DCAU, it's got the same kind of "fuck it, let's use this universe as the base for it but throw stuff in from other versions of the these characters" approach to it, much like how All-Star Superman was mostly based on Silver Age Superman comics with some elements from different versions of Superman thrown in.

Damn I kind of knew about the low and mid tier stuff and IMO we can always ignore the Jason stuff (since it was only in a dream and he was never mentioned anywhere else) and even the Warhawk flashback (could be just Warhawk...having a dream?) but that Hawkman, Rann-Thanagar war and Joker part, plus the sheer amount of mid-tier stuff, convinced me. Good news I guess is that DCAU Bruce didn't impregnate Barbara and maybe we can have a proper Batman Beyond continuation in the DCAU loosely inspired by Earth 12.

But it is unclear how previous stories such as Hush Beyond and the larger DCAU fit in Earth 12.
I don't take continuity errors that serious either :) BUT I love watching you break them all down & go into all the details! Whst about Green Lantern "First Flight" & Green Lantern "Emerald Knights"? I wonder if theres some fun continuity errors to break down with everything those add.
I actually like Earth 12. While the continuity snarls with the DCAU can be infuriating, something about it just seems... I dunno, fuller than the DCAU itself in places. Like I can buy Jason Todd being in this universe better than how it was handled during BtAC. It establishes more elements to Terry that we sadly never got to see in the DCAU. I mean, in Earth 12, Terry gets his own Robin! And he gets his own Bat Signal! That's awesome! Not to mention he died and came back! That's practically a rite of passage in superhero comics!
If Earth-12 and DCAU are different Earths but has some similarities this proves the saying of the opening of Injustice "I can say without a doubt that there are infinite number of universes. Some are just like our own...but for one or two significant,events exactly the same - Lex Luthor

Yeah, in my toy collection I have three Batmen Beyond on display together: one for Earth 12 Terry, one for Earth 12 Tim (Future's End), and one for the DCAU Terry. On that note, I hate they never followed up the tease for whatever happened to Earth 12 Tim. I was certain he'd show up in Jor-El/Mr. Oz's cell alongside the Rebirth and Titans Tomorrow Tims, but... nope. :(
I argued with someone online who kept stifling a conversation by constantly insisting that Earth-12 was actually called Earth 12 (with a space instead of hyphen) and that Earth-12 only refers to Pre-Flashpoint Earth-12. It was super pedantic and gatekeepy, not to mention completely wrong. People should have a holier-than-thou attitude about comics if they don't even read comics.
Was hoping there would be more on the additional heroes introduced in all of the comics. Did your team see that the older Barry Allen introduced in his new year one story is active during the mainstream Beyond timeline? I love alternate futures and believe DC should be doing a lot more with the Beyond era. More legacy characters like Warhawk, maybe a new spin on the Question, Capt. Atom, Green Arrow, or Atom Smasher..?
Well, My Adventures With Superman claims that the DCAU is Earth 508, so if we want to give it a number, there it is. Though it could've been Earth 92, as a reference to when BTAS first aired.
The way to identify the DC Multiverse is the following way: - Original Multiverse: The original multiverse is infinity and Every Earth below 52 are spelled out such as Earth-One, Earth-Two, Earth-Three, meanwhile every Earth above 52 is numbered with a hyphen. Also an earth can be designated with a word or letter such as Earth-S, Earth-X, Earth-Prime, Earth-Quality, etc. The 52 Multiverse: unlike the previous multiverse, this multiverse consists only with 52 universes and the designations are numbered with a hyphen. Such as Earth-0, Earth-1, Earth-2, Earth-3, etc. Multi-Multiverse: unlike the previous multiverse there are more of 52 universes, but outside of the local Multiverse. The designation is numbered but without the hyphen. Hi! Your video was really great ! On the other hand i noticed you forgot a inconsistency. In justice League beyond 2.0 #10 when we see the zombie felix faust Superman talks about the annihilator while he is supposed to be destroyed in the jlu episode the balance.
Yep, we noted that down but didn’t include it in the video. The Annihilator could have been rebuilt, or a number of other things off-screen in the 40-ish years’ time. There were TONS of other small things like this-it was more important to focus on the bigger arguments.
If Hypothetically the DCAU had an earth number in DC's 52 universes before the events of Flashpoint, the inconsistencies could be explained by that. Flashpoint resulted in timeline changes for all 52 universes, not just Earth Prime. We do later learn that these were caused by the arrival of Dr. Manhattan in the Divine Continuum, but either way Earth-12 could still canon from the angle that the DCAU timeline was altered. Which would mean that the DCAU as we know it would be a hypertime world, and the new history of these beyond comics is the new version. But believing this means that events like Death Metal had an impact on the DCAU as well, and according to that storyline, the DCAU we know would be back as a different numbered universe. That is, if I understand that event's consequences correctly

I always sorta saw the Higgins run (2.0) specifically as in-universe, but not the others. I suppose I can accept it as head-canon only now, though. I wasn't really aware that ALL this was Earth-12. I do find the Warhawk argument a little weak, though, because I see it ultimately don't put much stock into theories involving math about the years. But that's just a me-thing, and it's also a case-by-case basis. The other evidence is pretty compelling, though!
And here I was thinking, "Wow. He REALLY does have a very similar cadance and timbre to James." Whelp. Got it backwards. James has a remarkably similar voice to his father.
This just speaks volumes of how comic have an amazing amount of PLOT holes and barely give a F to clean them up. Marvel does it too but DC does it more than anyone else
14:53 to help with Darkseid being alive thing(I know this is a few months after this video came out and that what I’m saying will probably be seen by someone and they’ll either say “That’s a comics thing that’s not applicable” or “sure”) it has been stated that that’s an avatar of the real darkseid(who is from a higher plane of existence) and that all Darkseids(animated and comics plus others versions) are just avatars and that the version from JLU is still in the Source Wall with Luther and a new version manifested many years later(also that lex Luther might be a backup clone that’s been programmed to be the “new” Lex[ Its not out of the question it’s DC after all but would be cool to see if it’s that])

i seem to recall the first watch tower [in dcau] was destroyed. which means the 2nd one could have been a rebuild. as for the call i believe they said he would forget.
1. A ringless John is on Rann as an advisor due to his military experience as well as experience policing the galaxy. (Seriously, Rann's "greatest hero" is a normal earthman who got zapped there one day by accident. even a ringless John Stewart would be like "Adam Strange 2.0" to these people. 2. At some point during the war, he and Hawkgirl hook up and Shiera gets pregnant. 3. Warhawk knows about John meeting him because John told him and Warhawk is sloppy with the description of events.

@@TevyaSmolka the tie ins were great too. I loved the Earth S one with classic Captain Marvel. That and Thunderworld (Earth 5) from Multiversity are the two best Captain Marvel comics in years. No offense to Geoff's Shazam. As good as it was it's really different from the original, including the name of course.
Exactly. They even did a video a while back theorising on the DCAU’s other universes from non-canon tie in books and stuff. Maybe some other animated shows could be in the same Multiverse too.

Earth 12 for all intents and purposes is clearly supposed to be the DCAU, the writer's just had trouble keeping track of continuity. I've watched every episode of every DCAU show and I can't remember every single detail of everything that happened, it's easy to forget.

These timelines are so confusing! But could explain some of the inconsistencies as "the universe was rebooted and now it's different".

Did your team see that the older Barry Allen introduced in his new year one story is active during the mainstream Beyond timeline?
I love alternate futures and believe DC should be doing a lot more with the Beyond era. More legacy characters like Warhawk, maybe a new spin on the Question, Capt. Atom, Green Arrow, or Atom Smasher..?
Well, My Adventures With Superman claims that the DCAU is Earth 508, so if we want to give it a number, there it is. Though it could've been Earth 92, as a reference to when BTAS first aired.
The way to identify the DC Multiverse is the following way:
- Original Multiverse: The original multiverse is infinity and Every Earth below 52 are spelled out such as Earth-One, Earth-Two, Earth-Three, meanwhile every Earth above 52 is numbered with a hyphen. Also an earth can be designated with a word or letter such as Earth-S, Earth-X, Earth-Prime, Earth-Quality, etc.
The 52 Multiverse: unlike the previous multiverse, this multiverse consists only with 52 universes and the designations are numbered with a hyphen. Such as Earth-0, Earth-1, Earth-2, Earth-3, etc.
Multi-Multiverse: unlike the previous multiverse there are more of 52 universes, but outside of the local Multiverse. The designation is numbered but without the hyphen. Such Earth 0, Earth 1, Earth 2, Earth 3, etc. Also exists the monitor sphere, the god sphere, the speedforce wall, the bleed, the source wall, etc.
The Dark Multiverse: unlike the previous multiverse, this multiverse is made of Dark Matter instead of positive Matter and is designated with negative numbers such as Earth -1, Earth -11, Earth -12, Earth -22, Earth -32, Earth -44 and Earth -52. Probably this Multiverse is infinity.
This is according to convergence.
Hi! Your video was really great ! On the other hand i noticed you forgot a inconsistency. In justice League beyond 2.0 #10 when we see the zombie felix faust Superman talks about the annihilator while he is supposed to be destroyed in the jlu episode the balance.
Yep, we noted that down but didn’t include it in the video. The Annihilator could have been rebuilt, or a number of other things off-screen in the 40-ish years’ time. There were TONS of other small things like this-it was more important to focus on the bigger arguments.
And now, according to My Adventures With Superman, THEY are now Earth-12

If Hypothetically the DCAU had an earth number in DC's 52 universes before the events of Flashpoint, the inconsistencies could be explained by that. Flashpoint resulted in timeline changes for all 52 universes, not just Earth Prime. We do later learn that these were caused by the arrival of Dr. Manhattan in the Divine Continuum, but either way Earth-12 could still canon from the angle that the DCAU timeline was altered.
Which would mean that the DCAU as we know it would be a hypertime world, and the new history of these beyond comics is the new version. But believing this means that events like Death Metal had an impact on the DCAU as well, and according to that storyline, the DCAU we know would be back as a different numbered universe.
That is, if I understand that event's consequences correctly
I’m so thankful that Earth 12 universe is different from the BTAS-JLU-Beyond universe. This means Batman never got Barbara Gordon Pregnant behind Dick Grayson’s back in BTAS Canon thank god
lol true, and the recounting of how Barbara's relationships went out in the episode itself is highly contradicted by the comic anyways.

I always sorta saw the Higgins run (2.0) specifically as in-universe, but not the others. I suppose I can accept it as head-canon only now, though. I wasn't really aware that ALL this was Earth-12.
I do find the Warhawk argument a little weak, though, because I see it ultimately don't put much stock into theories involving math about the years. But that's just a me-thing, and it's also a case-by-case basis. The other evidence is pretty compelling, though!

14:53 to help with Darkseid being alive thing(I know this is a few months after this video came out and that what I’m saying will probably be seen by someone and they’ll either say “That’s a comics thing that’s not applicable” or “sure”) it has been stated that that’s an avatar of the real darkseid(who is from a higher plane of existence) and that all Darkseids(animated and comics plus others versions) are just avatars and that the version from JLU is still in the Source Wall with Luther and a new version manifested many years later(also that lex Luther might be a backup clone that’s been programmed to be the “new” Lex[ Its not out of the question it’s DC after all but would be cool to see if it’s that])

1. A ringless John is on Rann as an advisor due to his military experience as well as experience policing the galaxy. (Seriously, Rann's "greatest hero" is a normal earthman who got zapped there one day by accident. even a ringless John Stewart would be like "Adam Strange 2.0" to these people.
2. At some point during the war, he and Hawkgirl hook up and Shiera gets pregnant.
3. Warhawk knows about John meeting him because John told him and Warhawk is sloppy with the description of events.

Exactly. They even did a video a while back theorising on the DCAU’s other universes from non-canon tie in books and stuff. Maybe some other animated shows could be in the same Multiverse too.

Earth 12 for all intents and purposes is clearly supposed to be the DCAU, the writer's just had trouble keeping track of continuity. I've watched every episode of every DCAU show and I can't remember every single detail of everything that happened, it's easy to forget.
