A Journey Through Mongolia (Full Length Documentary)

- Mongolia! A Journey through Mongolia is a travel documentary from our one month trip through the great expanses of the Mongolian plains.
We started the trip with a few days in Ulaanbaatar to experience the sprawling metropolis. We also had a chance to go to Hustai National Park not far from UB to see the last remaining wild horse, the Takhi. Then we went on a ten day adventure to go live with the Tsaatan Reindeer Herder tribe in the very north on the border of Siberia. This was an incredible experience and it was very demanding with multiple days on horseback after a long strenuous multi-day 4WD trip. After a short recovery we went to the eastern part of the country to the Bayan-Ölgii Province to attend the Golden Eagle Festival. This festival has really been the focus of the Mongolian travel in recent time, very much because of Aishol-pan the "Eagle Huntress". We had a chance to meet this incredible girl who is certainly an inspiration to women across the world. After the festival we went and lived with an eagle hunter family deep in the Altai Mountain Range.

A million thanks from those of us who can travel only on the Internet .
Yeah we do that a lot as well when we can’t be out exploring. Today however we just woke up in the capital of Ethiopia ;) Adventure Time!!!
It was a great video. I hope you will also like my videos

I have been guiding and organizing soft-adventure and cultural tours for 15 years. There are 2 things makes people love Mongolia. 1 is the open space and nature, the second is the hospitable nomadic community. I love my country. I have been traveling over 30 countries in 4 continents I but decided to stay in my home country.
That must have been an exciting life!
Visit Pakistan.
@Denis No, Mongolia is one of the save countries in the world to travel. You may have heard some rare occasions but generally it is safe. Night life is mostly indoor and clubs and pubs serve until 4 am. There are certain places foreigners enjoy mostly as well, for example Green Zone etc
What's your job if may I know? That's so cool you can travel around the world

Mongolia. A country of vast and unlimited beauty. A land where a rich cultural heritage reigns supreme. A place where a mesmerizing language flows like music. A nation where its music flies like the wind. Where its people demonstrate their amazing hospitality and hardiness. Where the scents of their mouthwatering cuisine warms the Earth. This is Mongolia, a land of beauty. I hope to meet you, as a country, face to face someday. Much love from the United States. 🇲🇳🇺🇸

When the girl in the video got invited and stayed with family on the road i cried and missed my country so faithfully ! I am here in United states. First i arrived in Chico, California which is very small town. I had to stay there for couple days before i move to Chicago. And rented a room for a week. Suddenly i needed to move out and let the landlord knew. He was so angry and insisted to not giving my deposit back. Almost kicked me out of the room i couldn’t argue because of my language knowledge at a time. I cried a lot and missed my motherland and its people its amazing culture and hospitality that how we treat people we don’t even know. I love my country! And i miss you so much. Can’t wait to be back soon!

I loved the fact that most of the places in Mongolia are rich in following their cultures and traditions which makes it even more authentic , beautiful and peaceful place 💗
Agreed!
The land is beautiful and the friendliness of the natives is priceless. The chief and his wife are priceless.
Couldn't agree more
The nomadic culture is brutal but beautiful. Respect from eastern Ethiopia Somali region..

We just returned from Ethiopia filming our latest video. Fantastic country
Sorry to teach you: Nomadic culture in Mongolia is not brutal. It´s just real nature. I´ve been in Mongolia for five times - totally half a year. Mongolia is the most peaceful place in the world for me. I have discovered more than 30 countries at this planet. I´ve been also a few times in Ethiopia. Also nice experiences. But sorry to tell: never met so many pocket thieves at any other place in the world compared to Ethiopia. But they don´t make a difference :-) They attack everybody: tourists and natives :-) In Ethiopia I was even attacked with an axe, cause I didn´t see the man within the cattles, who didn´t like me to take a picture from the cattles. That I would regards as brutal. But I still love Ethiopia and Buna - Amaseginalehu :-)
sorry man. Mongolian nomadic culture is not brutal... never ever. They are living under nature law. They are respecting mother earth. This is not predator's Africa. It is a heaven under the sky
The history of mangolia is brutal at the time of mangol emperors .not there culture
They are the last of raindeer herders, what a great documentary to witness this extraordinary lifestyle. Don't know how long these people would last with their beautiful culture ❤️

undertheturkishsun That's pretty patronizing, the Mongolians are people just like everywhere else, so they're not perfect either. Apparently Mongolia has a serious problem with xenophobia and is full of neo-Nazis, for example

Records suggest that in 1905, there were 1370 Kazakh households, increasing to 1,870 households by 1924 (the year Mongolia adopted socialism). Kazakh tribe people stayed in Mongolian land from ancient. Mongolians saved them . But we never mixed. It is prohibed by ancients. Kazakhs saved their tradition very well. And Mongolians saved our tradition very well. And lived respectfully for each others.

Thank you for coming us
I lived in UB for two years. The cheese and Airag I don't miss.
Yeah the cheese is pretty rough
I just don't buy airag from retailers. When I want to, I go to a herder family and drink it right there to be safe. Maybe I am a little paranoid, but not everybody is so "hospitable" and naive as the tour companies would love to portray them. You could drink real airag before 2000's but now some Mongolians would do anything to make some extra dough. You gotta be more cautious these days. I didn't mean to bash tourism but I don't want some clueless foreigner falling sick and badmouth Mongolia, you know what I mean.
@@AdventureCalls That cheese you thought rough was never meant to be eaten right away. You eat cheese when it's fresh and moisty, but the dried cheese you break it into smaller pieces and just keep it in your mouth probably for hours and slowly suck the interior. When children tend to the cattle in the steppe or mountain, dried cheese become their main food source because its small size makes it ideal to carry around. The ancient Mongol armies didn't require messy supply baggage 'cause they were sucking dried cheese in their mouths and they could produce cheese whenever and wherever cows are around. So the dried cheese had extremely important military application to it which is mostly ignored these days. Dried cheese is never meant to be a delicious treat, it's designed to sustain your energy for the grueling task of tending the cattle. Having that rough cheese in your mouth for hours while tending your cows or sheep is only the half of the whole picture. Unless you are armed or know how to appear tough badass even as children, there's always a chance that a wolf, leopard or other wild beasts plunge at you. Behind every bush or a little hill there's some other form of living thing sneaking to attack if you let down your guard. Being a nomad is not for the faint hearted. Their very existence has been a constant struggle for survival. But modern nomads are lucky to have some access to modern technologies to make their lives far easier than their ancestors. If you think these Mongolian nomads have tough lifestyle then just multiply that toughness like 10 or 20 times and you have a nomadic warrior which filled the ranks of the great horde army of Chingis Khaan. Chingis Khaan himself was so brutal and so cunning that even those warriors pissed in their pants like little kids. And imagine 10000 such a stone faced semi human, semi beast creatures attacking your cities to plunder. Is it not petrifying enough? The greatest horde army assembled was Chingis Khaan's revenge campaign against Kwarezmian Empire with 135 000 warriors and Kwarezmian huge army of 537000 in their own soil was obliterated without trace and grand prince Jelal Ad Din barely escaping to India and the Shah of Kwarezm was abandoned alone and starved to death on a island which is submerged nowadays as if even the nature itself was against that ill-fated empire. That's just hard to imagine but if you examine every little details, the victory could be deciphered and understood. What do you think those military scientists at the Pentagon study? This is what they study. Sorry about the long post though, dried cheese has deep history buried in its past. I just couldn't let it go. Had to say something. I suspect whoever gave you the dry cheese just played prank on you. Just for a little laugh I guess. Who said nomads have no sense of humor? That's most likely. But I don't know the circumstance.
Love that my tribe The Mighty Lakota & Chengiis Khan People Very Alike Hoka!!!!!& ilove The Hu Band!!!!

Like Lakota songs and customs, really much.
In many ways this 'cabin' lifestyle is much like my boyhood hop-picking days in the 1950's on a large Guinness farm in East Sussex, England, close to the famous Bodiam Castle. Those boyhood-a- month-in-the-country away from the London pollution were amongst the happiest days of my life. Things are different nowadays globally I think.

cool I know prices change but how expensive were the domestic flights when you went? I am seriously looking at booking a tour to Mongolia in the next year but I kind of hope to combine the two tours that I saw that I really liked. I am a travel/ landscape photographer and would be in absolute Heaven to photograph the Eagle Hunters.
As far as I remember, around $3-400 for the internal flights. Amy is arranging a horse riding trip there next year where she is going as well. If you could be interested then ill have her contact you for some more info. Horse riding beginners welcome.
And yeah the Eagle Hunters are something else. Its very doable to really get out there and get deep in the culture.
Thanks for the info! That would be an amazing trip. I have to sit down and really think about it. I have two major trips coming up to Iceland/Faroes and Norway but Mongolia is rising to the top of my list for my next big adventure. I am so intrigued by the Reindeer Herders as well.
