- Deep in the sub-Arctic boreal forest of far Northern Mongolia, straddling the border of Russian Siberia, a unique minority group lives in the sprawling tundra. Practising the same way of life for thousands of years, this indigenous tribe is among the world’s smallest ethnic minorities and last reindeer herding nomads.
But today, the Tsaatan people are facing a threat which may have a great impact on their survival: the government of Ulan Bator wants to force all children to go to school from the age of 6.
For these families, it is a heartbreak. And it is also a questioning of their whole way of life. So what to do?: Renounce their traditions to offer their children a different destiny or disobey? The Tsaatan are undoubtedly facing one of the greatest challenges of their existence.

I wonder how they feel when they would find out that many people would agree with them that this world is going in the wrong direction.
I visited Tsaatan people up in the mountains, near Tsaaganur, in 2008. They didn't seem as content and happy as the folks in this movie. It's a really tough life, in tough conditions. Tsaatan are struggling to make a living. Many are pushed to look for other perspectives. Traditional ways are great, when you are observing them from the comfort of your home, on RUclips. In reality, it's a struggle. The world is changing and it is hard to stay relevant.
I wonder if anybody got the impression that this is not a tough life. The world is changing and i hope some prople who are able to live where they are without relying on excessive amounnts of energy from somewhere else will be left when the delusion of continuous growth and unlimited consumption collapses
This kind of living is no longer relevant and impractical
22 years ago I was there with them. It took few days by horse to get to their temporary summer place. I loved every second, they were so hospitable, sharing everything with me. The matriarch was also a shaman and she told beautiful stories I still remember. This video made me very homesick.
Absolutely brilliant in so many ways. Bravo Slice!
These are my favorite of all documentaries- I don't know how you do such amazing work ❤ !
Amazing people. Great documentary. Thanks for this Slice.
Much Love and Respect from Finland🇫🇮.
The voice cover up is so confusing sometimes, please try using subtitles. Language is also an important thing in a culture
Excellent documentary, absolutely fascinating how the Reindeer people live and so happy.
I wish they don’t let their tradition gone it’s better to live in the old world than in the new world🙏🙏🙏💕❤️💕❤️
We should learn from them how to be happy with what we have.
That’s one of the many lessons of yoga. These people get those lessons through living…which is the ultimate and best way to learn lessons.
Slice these people are heroes love the countrythere welldone we can learn a lot of the reindeer people well done!!!!!
A Hard life BUT TRUE FREE AND REWARDING IM SURE!!! ❤
I actually find this lifestyle quite fascinating and relaxed compared to stressful city life. I want to live like them
Finland and nordics in general have alot space free. Especially Lapland.
I love how they speak so contently about everything, it’s a true karmic lesson for everyone watching…
“I love living here, I couldn’t live anywhere else.”
“My wife is so strong, she could live anywhere. And she loves me.”
“I am so happy with my life.”
“We have everything and we are free here.”
“What’s the most difficult thing in my life? In summer, the reindeer sometimes try to get in the tents. That’s the hardest thing.”
“You scare me. Your hair is like a hedgehog.” (To her husband)
“Oh? I’ll do my hair again, then.” lol! 😂
These people are so happy inspite of their hardest life there are lots we have to learn form them I wish them my good wishes God bless them.
The reindeers are beautiful and they love their pastor😊
This is so beautiful. It made me tear up a couple many times❤
Living for a month is hard for someone who is from town...thank you for this learning experience you provided ...its amazing how they are thankful for their life..and we complain all the time😊
what great people, who are strong,It is a sight to behold.
Как всегда, *****. Пять звезд. Five stars as usual :)
Amazing images. Would love to see it for myself one day. Bravo!
Thank you so much for such a wonderful video! ❤💙💚💛💜
10:16 da ablam okadar asaletli bakıyor ki hayran kalmamak elde değil ❤😊
What fabulous animals!
I went there in summer. It took 2 days for the train and car rides and 8 hours on the horseback to get to their campsite. Love staying overnight in a true teepee and hugging reindeers. I’d love to go again but in winter for fluffy reindeers. Though I don’t know how to poop outdoors below 0 degree. Maybe it’ll be another constipating trip.
Beautiful.
What a rich experience you must had...sharing daily live with them
Amazing work thanks
What a wonderful documentary, thank you 🙏
It is very difficult to know what would be the best solution 😞. Their way of life is so beautiful but very hard, but at the same time, if everyone moves to cities, will they be better of? Will there be decent jobs for them? And, worse, a survivalist culture that will lose their knowledge 😢
Thank you Slice for this amazing documentary that took several years to produce !
he just brought it
Awesome documentary!! Thanks so much for sharing! P.s. please get these precious people a meat grinder.
Incredible people. Not an easy life but a very attractive one.
AWESOME DOC ...
Salute to such people.
That throat singing.. soo cool

As a Turk greating from New York USA ,I’m really proud our Turkic identity history of thousands of years ,,thanks your documentary🎥🧿🏹🛖🕊🌎
These people are Turk originated.
Turkic is a language family not an identity cringe arab
@@shandassukhbaatar2060these people are mongolian
Just look how close they are.
This is for us, real minimalist life :).
Are there Tsataan speakers who speak also Mongolian and English? I'd like to get acquainted
he could film his
life as a weekly blog...and would have money enough to stay with his family...

Trabalho excelente!amei esse documentário!o último Take é breath taken!❤😍👏👌🙏👏
41:32 grandma is so wise
Subtitles man, subtitles. Why replace their language with English. You are doing it in post anyways.
I agree. I don't like voice translation while the subject is speaking.
Please mention more specifically, train time & car & horse ride makes more very much helpful to New Visitors.
Thanks.
Where did you find Mongolian music I haven't heard before? Whose music was used in the intro?
:O THEY'RE RIDING REINDEER! I WANT!
Just noticed, and I’m curious, why is the title saying “the dilemma” if the people do not present anything remotely similar to a dilemma?! They’re happy-go-lucky and thankful, joyful nomadic people. I see nothing of a dilemma…other than it possibly being “changed” one day by land-claiming corporations, or government policies maybe. I think the school for the kids isn’t a bad idea… things don’t have to change THAT much, but of course, it is not my life, and I’m not there.
The climate is changing quicker than expected.
Life is harsh, sometimes, they get a break.
But now the future is bleak for the reindeer herders.
Across coldest places,
Riding reindeer? They remind me of Thranduil...
Stay in touch
❤❤❤
I wonder each family identifies its own reindeers. Do they count their reindeers every day?
What is that background instrumental called??
50:31 ''He wonders how long his children can ENDURE THIS, lost in the Taiga underneath a simple Tipi''
Ehh they will be fine as they have been for generations, seems the documentary maker is a little bit biased?
Am i the only one seeing these people have everything they need in life?
The only stress and sadness have is the modern world trying to suck them in because Mongolia is trying to modernize and compete with its neighbours, at the cost of the happiness of its people.
Not to blame the Mongolian government its a logical step, but you dont want to be like us westerners, rich but anxious and stressed, depressed.
Live your life people of the Taiga, we gave that up long time ago for comfort and money
they are just people, like everyone else. It's easy to speak of freedom from comfort and money when you live in comfort and have money. Imagine getting sick and there is no one to treat you. They are simple folks, but if they could - many of them would trade their freedom for comfort. They just can't, because they are not adjusted to that more comfortable world. That's why they are saying "I wouldn't be able to live anywhere else".
Music👏
Y’all best believe that if Santa’s reindeer suppliers disappear then Christmas gifts will be no more.

Recap by Tammy AI
Surely a teacher could be provided to go out there to teach them??? This world's sofkd up
Mo-Mos (Tibetan for dumplings).
i am there
There's your answer folks these guys go to school separated from family and a traditional way of life and they don't know what to do. W t f .defeats the object. Yes a little education helps but if your a traditional tribal child your culyre is there already for you. Eat scenario is to send teachers out to the field so they can keep in their culture an ways .education isn't everything some things are more important .the world's to broken to be able to provide these people with anything better than what they originally had. Sending them to school this way will cause more damage in their situation. I'm not against education but be realistic .
What song plays between 0:00-0:15??? Goes hard
I am sorry, I don't know it's title
the young wife hoolan is a beauty
Stream cold in that region, I would not be able to travel in this freezing climate
They are the luckiest the best I should say they enjoy their life inspite of these metropolitan’s cities
Both the people tsaatans and reindeer population need some mixing up with other like tribes in North pole. As they are at brink of extinction, a lots of inbreeding due to isolation and migration further into wilderness seeking pasture, food for reindeers due to global warming effects in taiga
❤❤❤🏵💮🌺🌼🌷🌹💖

Learning is good but it’s not great to be separated from your family
Қасқр бар жеитн

Does seem to patently (& sweetly) support the theories Re human migration to North America!
I wonder if the Tuvans still practice this lifestyle in Russian Siberia or Far East Asia.
Tsaatan are not Tuvans, they spoke a dialect of tuvan centuries ago, but they identify as uriankhai. As for far east, Khamnigan living in Inner Mongolia still practice reindeer husbandry
18:28 hahahaha it was hilarious
