Great video! These old Super 8 films have a certain charm to them. Love the motel sign. Would have been cool to see it lit up at night. I bet it had a motion sequence to it.
Yes, good eyes - the sign probably did have a motion sequence. I thought the circles represented balloons but maybe they were bubbles or just a design. What a nice pool too. Of course the person featured makes the film. I was thinking the motel was in Kansas but then I saw the Texas map sign to the side of the motel sign so that led me the old Holiday Motel in Delhart. Then I looked up Dalhart.
Dalhart is way up near the top of Texas. Several state capitals are closer to Dalhart than Dalhart is to Austin. It was given the name based upon the fact that it is located in two counties - Dallam and Hartley. It's interesting what can be seen on the same rolls of film - in this case the visitors went from the Dalhart Holiday Motel swimming pool to the next location which was storied Dodge City, Kansas. Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson were part of the Dodge City Peace Commission in 1883. In order to get to Dodge City from Dalhart one might drive through the Oklahoma panhandle into Kansas. The 2020 census for Dalhart listed a population of 8, 447 people. I don't know who the woman is in the film but what a surprise it would be for her to see it.
Motel 6's were cheap but others were up to $10 to $20. a night. A free pool, clean rooms, and air conditioning in Texas was probably a good deal at $10. or $15.. The cleaning maids made so little - about $1.25 - $1.65 an hour but the motels created plenty of jobs for people with limited choices. I did some janitorial work myself a couple of times and at least it is relaxing if you don't mind working alone. Better than working with some people who spend their time hassling their coworkers.
I would really like some 1969 footage of any of the Zodiac sights, especially like the Presidio area, I have some 1967 footage of the theater district at Mason and Geary the ACT Theater- inside and outside, and it is night time, and it even has a guy hailing a cab, and guess what - he looks ALOT like the police sketch! Well he is not John Parr Cox, or the Zodiac Killer, because he is way too short. But if you have any footage or can direct me to some site that does let me know 🫡
I remember when a hotel pool was a big deal. Cool old west town. Thanks for the memories. Cheers👍
Pools really were fun when I grew up too. Thank you for visiting and happy travels.

Wow they gave a free TV in every room. Wonder how much the room was then?
