- Vintage Super 8 films and photos seen for the first time of fun times in Daly City, California, a suburban city next to San Francisco. We've slowed down the film at points to better see the cars and vans on St. Francis Blvd. One of the more interesting shots is a rare view of a mannequin hanging from the bumper of a car hoisted by a crane at one of the car dealerships in nearby Colma. The vintage western playset seen in the film with a spinning firework was called Fort Cheyenne.

Nostalgic Daly City was fun to watch. The car w/ mannequin and fire cracker fort were so 70s. Well done putting this together and thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you! Suburban life in the 70s was a lot of fun. Destroying some of our toys and plastic models with firecrackers and fireworks seems to be something a lot of boys did. Most of those cars going by were just filmed for a split second so it's great to have iMovie for slowing down original frame rates. You know Mike if your family took some nice home movies, slides, or photos I think your fans like me would enjoy seeing them! With your love for travel you must have grown up doing a bit of travel and/or having good times around home.

Thank you! I've been working on this one for awhile. It can be a little strange thinking back on one's home town. The adventures, the friends, the family gatherings, the schools, the highs, the lows . . . there's just so much to growing up and yet if it's basically been in one house on one block it becomes so specific to that time and place. TV and movies were a part of it of course, plus games, reading, building model kits or other hobbies, art projects, school work, letters, phone calls, the people, the cars, and the lives we lived. As kids we mostly played outside but everyone went over their friend's houses too. Oh and the weather of course because Daly City had a lot of foggy days being the ocean was a short distance away and the mountain you see - San Bruno Mountain - tended to hold the fog in when it arrived mainly during the summer months. With this video in time perhaps people will identify some of the cars and vans - I think there is a Pinto and a Thunderbird. Our street was a boulevard and occasionally fast cars would speed by. Most of the other streets as seen in one of the shots had closer neighbors across the streets. The track you see at the end was our high school - Westmoor. Football games were played on that field.

What I would like to see is a picture of the four-star Grill reportedly on Hollywood Boulevard. I can't find anything on that, other than a picture of the signage. But no picture of the grill itself. Some say it was on Hollywood Boulevard near Highland. Any insight on that?

@@mistervacation23 I personally do not think she was seen during her missing week. I made a recent video about that using Glendale High School yearbooks. Mistaken identity is so easy with similar looking people. First of all, Elizabeth Short was not known to be missing so no one was looking for her. There was no police missing persons bulletin. After she was murdered and her photos were in the newspaper, suddenly people who did not know her but saw her photos went to newspaper reporters and claimed to have seen her. None of these stories panned out. The police read these stories too of course but no one who claimed to have seen her through a window or going somewhere testified at the inquest. Why? They weren't sure or were simply publicity seekers. As I've mentioned elsewhere sadly in other cases of missing women and girls people thought they saw someone only for that to turn out to have been impossible after the bodies were discovered. However sincere people should report as it has helped in the past. However I should note that people have been imprisoned simply because they looked like the real criminal. Mistaken identity of that kind is a sad fact of history.
